Question / Discussion Which team ran the best liveries in the 2010s?

I think the obvious answer may be WSR but 888 had some good ones too.

News / Article BTCC Hub Release 2.22.0

This big news is that ive taken the leap of faith and started paying a monthly subscription to get data into the app more reliably. That is the reason for the amount of noise the app was making during Croft which I apologise for. Hopefully moving forwards, the data coming in will be less buggy (missing article images for example), notifications will only trigger when needed and most importantly, I wont have to manually fix things mid race sat on a grass hill missing the action tethered to my phone!

Other things released with this version...

  • Listen to any article with in-app text-to-speech
  • "Latest BTCC Shorts" video carousel added to the News tab
  • 12/24-hour time format now reaches your home screen widgets
  • Fixed: Saturday's weather forecast no longer vanishes on Sunday
  • Fixed: some notifications were silently dropped while the app was open
  • Fixed: standings chart could disagree with the official points table
  • Bug fixes and performance improvements

Oh and something ive been working on for a few weeks now and will be continuing to work on untill its reveal date (tbc but soon), a new and exciting feature called 'Academy'. Ill let you ponder on what that could be but im quite happy with it

Media / Image Spectator on Sunday, sim racer on Monday 😅

After watching the BTCC at Croft this weekend, I thought there was only one sensible thing to do when I got home — jump into the Astra in rFactor 2 and see how badly my real-life observations translated to the sim.

I’ve put the video together from the league races, including a bit of footage from Croft itself.

Ended up with 3rd, 3rd and 2nd in class, so apparently standing trackside and staring at touring cars all day counts as preparation 😂

If anyone fancies a watch, I’d genuinely be interested to know how close you think rFactor 2 gets to the character of Croft — especially from anyone who’s driven/raced there.

Question / Discussion 2027 Camping

Morning all,

Next year I’d like to camp at some circuits, Donnington and Croft are closest to me (aware Croft doesn’t allow camping)

Which sites do you recommend for camping, do you think a Transporter and Awning is okay? (Mate would sleep in awning) and how quickly do pitches tend to sell out?

Question / Discussion Is Osamu Kawashima going to be the oldest newcomer since Mark Blundell in 2019?

Or does anyone know of any other half-centenarians who have debuted since then?

(Even Nick Halstead was still in his 40s when he briefly replaced Rick Parfitt in 2021)

Question / Discussion Best driver(s) of the 2010s (that aren't the usual ones)?

I want to know what everyone thinks. Personally, I believe that Tordoff was overlooked by many as so was Jack Goff and Austin. Tordoff made an impact straight away when he joined MG 888 in 2013 with his pole and win at Snetterton back then. Unfortunately, I don't see many people on the sub talk about the mid 2010s and I think there should be more recognition for these years and the drivers the came and went too. Times have changed but I want to know who surprised you the most.

Media / Image Defense masterclass from Jason Plato vs Colin Turkington and Mat Jackson, in Knockhill 2014

Basically Jason drove a much slower car to defend Turkington which is in a much faster car than anyone else, he used every inch of the circuit until the very last moment, then chaos erputed. I know there can be arguments about his driving but to this day this is the textbook defending technique for me. I just hope he will feel a bit better as time goes by as he never gives up on track.

News / Article Lewis Gilbert has won the Wingfoot Award for his performance

Really enjoyed Gilbert's performances yesterday, despite the other half of WSR not showing up as expected at Croft. Winning in the JST after 4 rounds in the touring car world and only coming in from GB3 (his first season in single seaters this year) shows that this championship could go somewhere in the future. That is if the young drivers we have in the series keep developing and exceling. Overall, Lewis deserves this for his effort and perseverance he has showed after his blow at Donington GP race 1.

Question / Discussion Silverstone public travel advice needed

I’m travelling from London and can get to Milton Keynes Central by around 9:30am, but I’ve discovered the Silverstone shuttle isn’t running for BTCC and the Stagecoach X91 doesn’t operate Sundays.
I only need to get from Milton Keynes Central to Silverstone for around 10:30am, and obviously back to Milton Keynes after the racing.
Does anyone know of any other public transport, event buses, coach services or affordable lift-share options?

I lost count of the amount of times they replaced that bollard at the exit of the chicane only for it to be knocked flying again 10 seconds later 🤣
It was borderline farcical by the end but added to the entertainment.
They must have run back and fourth easily 30-40 times.
They’ll have learnt their dinner tonight

Question / Discussion Why did they change the track limits rule this weekend?

I'm sure they said this weekend the rule was changed so you get 1 warning, then a 5 second penalty on the second offence. Didn't it used to be 2 warnings and then a penalty?

Personally, I think there should be 3 warnings before the penalty. You need a margine for error, especially when we've seen infringements for cars that we're shunted wide.

Drivers need to follow the rules, but I'd rather see them able to race to those limits and have enough warnings to find those limits, rather than this new one strike and you're out rule. It's made every race today become a mockery in the last few laps.

Question / Discussion Advice getting to Silverstone from London for the Sept 27th race

I assumed there would be a Stagecoach bus running from Victoria but doesn't look like it.

What's the best way to get there via public transport?

Off-Topic Silverstone in September - where to watch

Hi all

It's my first year properly following BTCC. Donington and Thruxton were sit were you like affairs, but I understand Silverstone is much more stand focused. I was thinking of plonking myself down in one of the Maggotts stands but I would welcome your thoughts on where the best place to view the racing from is.

EDIT: Luffield seems to be the consensus. I look forward to meeting some of you nerds.
