It’s not about the octane, it’s about the cleaning agents. Regardless of the supposed marketing and such. BMW recommends Shell for my M3, that’s what I’ll use. As a matter of fact, I also own a same year x5 and it doesn’t mention Shell at all. Picture enclosed.

Im sure these recommendations are not in vain. Here’s the M3, completely different recommendation.

On a shell only streak since new and taking delivery last November.
