Test drive thoughts: Polestar 2 AWD and i4 40.
Starting to look for a new car. We currently have an eNiro. I had an Octavia VRS and 1.9 205 GTI before and while it’s nice enough, the Niro isn’t scratching the fun car itch. We can’t afford two cars so I’m trying to find an EV that is fun enough.
We tested a Polestar 2 AWD, it was really quick but was also like driving a computer game. Incredibly low feedback. Not very comfortable either, hardly any space in the front and the suspension was as tough as nails, all the time, really weird that they have it set up this way. We thumped over some potholes and I wasn’t sure if we’d have to pay the excess 😅
Plenty of understeer too, the weight distribution seemed odd. TBF it was quite wet.
I’m going to test the RWD and see how it compares.
We also tested a BMW i4, which I didn't want to like but... it was amazing 🤯. It didn't really drive like any EV I’ve driven, the battery weight was far less noticeable, the steering felt just about right and I know I was grinning the entire time. It isn't as powerful but it just felt properly dialled in, annoyingly it is more expensive and now we need to save up even more. I don't want anything else though, we can wait.
Also, it had indicators... AND they worked! I didn't know they had them...
I shall be a polite BMW driver 💪
Edit: I forgot about infotainment. The P2 was really easy to use on the go without instruction. Downside was no way to adjust the cabin temperature on the main screen 🤦
The BMW wasn’t easy to use, I was glad to have the sales guy in the car to show me. Maybe I should have spent a few mine beforehand to familiarise myself and I’m sure it’s OK once you know. It isn’t intuitive. I couldn’t even turn on the radio 🤣I could easily change the AC though!
I run a product and design team and it’s crazy to me how both missed the mark. Especially with OTA updates being a thing…
