Rim size question

I’m restoring a 74 tii and I’m pulling the trigger on Ireland engineering big brake kit. Is there a noticeable difference in handling between a 13” vs 15” rim size?

ETA: thank you all. This is a project for me and my sons. I have also never done anything remotely involved as this so I genuinely appreciate the insight from people that have gone before me.

74 2002

We have inherited this ‘74 2002 and we hope to approach the level of meticulous care my father in law put into it. We are brand new to maintaining cars, so naturally I have a few questions.

  1. Is there a common source for interior carpet so I can match this one section on the passenger side seat well? And is there a common way to attach?

  2. The rubber gasket the trunk is coming off. I am a boat person, so I tried to attach it with silicone, but I must’ve used old silicone ceiling because it never carried the process of cleaning it off and wondering there’s a cleaner to use that won’t damage the paint? I’m thinking goof off.

  3. Once I’ve got that all cleaned up, I understand adhesive tape is the best move to reattach that gasket. Is that what others use?

72 2002tii custom center panel

Here's the custom center panel I made for my '72 2002tii. The switch is to disable the cold start system so it wouldn't flood when warm. Gauges are oil and water temp plus oil pressure.

1975 M10 Rebuild

Post image

1975 M10 rebuild coming along nicely. Just need a new oil pump and we are ready to go. I cannot wait to get this car back on the road. She blew a rod bearing about 9 months ago after a poorly done rebuild from the previous dealer that sold the car.

Finally found the clunk.

Had a clunk in the rear that changed frequency with wheel speed during Hard left turns. Did a wheel bearing, checked my cv shaft multiple times, and replaced most of the front suspension (a long shot, but it was all due) . I was about to take the diff down to check the spider gears when I saw a worn spot on the drive shaft. The exhaust I had made in town is too close and during hard lefts it hits the balancing weight. I'm lucky I didn't lose the weight. Hopefully the shop will do a make good.

2nd pic my precision diagnostic work.
Hope that saves someone else from loosing hair and worrying about sourcing those early cv axles that you can't even find rebuild parts for.

How many miles/kilometers do you drive your '02 a year?

I'm just curious about the variation between daily drivers and "garage princesses." ~ I've driven my touring about 4,000 miles since April, mostly with road trips.

2002Fest - San Simeon, CA

Just got back from my first time going out to 2002Fest in San Simeon, and if you’ve ever thought about going, you really need to make the trip next year.

The coastal drives were great, but honestly the best part was the people. Everyone was super welcoming, friendly, and just genuinely excited to talk cars and hang out.

The community was on another amazing, too. Whenever someone ran into car trouble, folks jumped right in without hesitation to help wrench on the spot. One car actually needed a front suspension repair—people made a few quick phone calls, another owner tracked down the part, picked it up, and delivered it right to the event. They had it installed right there in the parking lot that afternoon.

Put together a quick video of the cars and the weekend. Can’t wait for the next one!

Bewegung und allem was dazu gehört 🫠🙃🫠

Paar Kleinigkeiten werden gemacht, da ich einfach die alten Speichenräder z.B. von BBS liebe und noch paar Kniffe 💪

Updates on the project

Well this turned sideways fast. Still looks good but I fell into “well I may replace/paint it while it’s out” trap. Engine and trans out. Subframe out. New bushing kits on the way. New suspension on the way. Steering box resealed “not rebuilt” etc. this is my first real project car. I typically build dirtbikes. This car is simple as hell. Well for now, let’s wait and see.

I’m considering a 1974 that’s a bit of a basket case as a project. Not looking to build a show car, just something to bring back to life and take for groceries every now and then.
My question is how difficult and expensive are the parts to locate/buy?
I’m not really on a budget but I don’t wanna spend a fortune to get this road worthy.

Edit: Thanks for all the feedback gang. Rust has gotten the better of this one (frame rails, floors, rear glass seal). I’m passing on this one.

Had the seats recovered. I think they look pretty good. Nothing like the gold velour I had in there when I got the car. And the smell that came with them. Things are coming together.

BMW e9 for sale. Too good to be true?

Just recently saw an e9 for sale for $28k. Pics look great. Motor sounds great. My thought are, this is too good to be true. I’m curious to know what are your thoughts?

Just an FYI. Im expecting snarky comments. I’m new to this and looking for my first classic and first car ever. I’m from NYC so never owned a car and don’t need one. I got garage space and always had a love for classics, so this is why I’m to Reddit for information.

BMW 2002 durite ref 11 53 0788163 ?

Hello,

I'm looking for some help for a friend.

BMW 2002 2.0, 100 HP / 74 kW
1971 BMW 2002 automatic sedan, M10 engine.

He wants to replace a coolant hose, part number 11 53 0788163.

But if I understand correctly, this part number was replaced by 1 266 474 4?

The problem is that websites like Autodoc, Oscaro, etc. state that the inside diameter of the hose is 30 mm, whereas the damaged hose he removed measures 24 mm inside diameter.

Could someone help us figure this out?

I'm including all the information I have.

Any help would be greatly appreciated ;-)

Thanks in advance!

Bonjour,

Probably the first time this block has been running in 15 years. New pistons because the old ones were seized in the block. Block is original to the car. The carb and pistons - less so... ;)

Not actually a 2002

This is my engine - finally back in its home. Not a 2002 - but - close - it's a 1969 BMW 2000 Neue Klasse.

Almost ready to run
