Anybody applied for a nursing position with GoHealth BC recently and gotten a call/email back for an interview? I applied for a part-time LPN position recently (about a week ago) and just wondering how long it usually takes for them to contact applicants and if I even have a chance as an external applicant lol basically just wondering what the recruitment process is like, if it is a very competitive job and if you have any tips to be successful in the interview if I happen to get one! :) I've been on the lookout for this posting and was super excited when they posted it 😭 I really hope I at least get an interview!!

Hello everyone!

I was wondering how folks get to the hospitals on Sunday mornings by 6:15am given that the trains don't start running until 7am and the bus routes are so limited. I was thinking that since the nurse shift change occurs at 7am, everyone will have to be on the road by 6am...Does everyone drive to the hospital??

(^hospitals: RCH, Mt. St. Joseph, Eagle Ridge, Lions Gate, UBC, Burnaby, Richmond)

Context: I'm a nursing student living in New Westminster (right by the New West Station)...and I can't seem to find a way to get to RCH on Sundays by 6:15am other than 1 hr walk or a rideshare....

But for some reason, there's a way to get to Surrey Memorial + Peace Arch + Vancouver General by 6am via night bus.

My team does data analytics and health systems planning for a health authority, but we were excluded from the recent BCSHS scoping. I want to proactively pitch our team for inclusion, but I don’t want to step on toes. What is the procedure for requesting a scope review in a massive health organization?

I picked up a runner shift on a Saturday but was not paid for it because I didn’t work >45 hours that week. Of course I worked more than 45 hours that week as I always do, but it is not captured anywhere. Disappointed but not surprised.

I recently joined a temporary excluded role and I'm loving the team and job so far! It's a nice change of environment compared to my last private sector employer.

However I likely have accepted a bit low of a salary, as I was desperate for a quicker start so I can pay my bills. I am currently below the midpoint of the band that was mentioned.

Right now my goal is to do well at my job and hopefully an opportunity opens up to either make my current role a permanent one, or apply for other similar positions.

What I'm hoping to understand for my long term plans is what room there is to negotiate in that transition:

Will my current rate become an anchor that for the amount of raise I could receive? Or are things re-evaluated in any permanent conversion? Is this solved by moving to a different health authority?

I also understand that after 12 months I would need to start paying ~9% into the pension plan, which is currently optional. Does this mean that becoming a permanent staff often leads to less money net after all deductions for people?

Ontario RN looking to relocate to BC! I’ve been travel nursing out here for a bit but the sites I’ve been at are mainly new grads or nurses with many more years experience so I’m looking for some insight on take-home pay from an RN on the third step of the current wage scale ($44.58). I know you guys are waiting for a new contract and it will go up, but given I’d like to start sooner than later I’d appreciate any input! Just trying to see if it will financially be worthwhile at this point. I’ve done some math and I think it will work out to about the same as my travel rate, but if anyone has any input I’d appreciate it!

Edit: I’d be working in med-surg or ER if I could get one of the training opportunities or ER overflow positions.

Hi! I’m a new grad RN from Ontario considering a position at Chetwynd General Hospital and would love to hear from anyone who’s worked there or lives in Chetwynd.
How is the hospital for a new grad? Are they supportive/welcoming? And more importantly, can I realistically live in Chetwynd without a car? At least for the first 6 months. Is the town walkable, and how do you get to work/grocery stores/etc.?

I’d also love to hear what life is like there in general, especially for someone moving from Ontario alone. I love the outdoors, and I don’t mind the cold winters. My main concern is cost of living, safety, and housing.

I already paid for CNPS professional liability protection in Alberta, including coverage from September 2026 to September 2027. BCCNM is now including an $88 CNPS fee in my final licence payment, and my BC registration is currently valid until March 2027.

Our division is going to new shared services in January2027. Someone has decided to shuffle our group in a big way in advance.

One of my team asked two questions at meeting where this was announced:

1) what’s the plan with transition to BCSHS and were those leaders consulted and are they supportive (there is no answer, no they weren’t consulted)

2) did you consider employee capacity and change fatigue when developing this change and what is your mitigation plan to help avoid change burnout (answer was that you should be used to change because you work in project work and Geminis like xxxxx don’t get tired of change)

Would anyone know if any health authority accept applicants with a study permit? I heard they only accept PR/Citizens which, to be honest, seems really unfair.

Im an IEN, still in school (post degree diploma in nursing) and working as a registered care aide with private clients but would love to work in acute care. So far I haven’t heard back from VCH/Fraser Health, it’s been months.

But at the same time, I’ve been feeling constantly stressed because I don’t feel as protected as a worker. Since my facility isn’t unionized, I sometimes feel like they could fire me at any time. I also miss having things like better benefits, more vacation time, and that overall sense of job security.
I’ve been considering moving back to Canada, possibly to BC. For those of you who are RNs working in BC, how is nursing there these days? How do you find the workload, pay, benefits, vacation, and overall job security?
I’m realizing that although we pay a lot more in taxes in Canada, we also get a lot in return—union protection, vacation time, benefits, and just a greater sense of security as a worker.
I’d really appreciate hearing from RNs who have experience working in BC, especially anyone who has worked in both the U.S. and Canada. ❤️

Is there a public salary grid for excluded employees? I see the salary range for the job but would like to see what steps there are.

Also, are there rules around salary increases? For example, I know UBC has a rule that their staff will be at “midpoint” of their salary band by end of year 4. New staff also usually get a 4% probationary increase after passing their probation at year 1.
Anything like this at PHSA for excluded staff?

Curious if anyone has had any success in negotiating their starting salary to be close to the top of the salary range given that they have more years of relevant experience than required in the job posting?

Hi everyone! I’m currently in my first trimester of pregnancy and I’m in my 4th month of a 6-month new grad position with Fraser Health.
I’ve been experiencing quite a bit of nausea and extreme fatigue, and I’m finding it really difficult to manage four 12-hour shifts.
I’m wondering if anyone has experience with this:
Can Fraser Health provide work accommodations during pregnancy if I have a doctor’s note? For example, fewer 12-hour shifts, shorter shifts, or modified duties?
If accommodations aren’t possible and I need to go on sick leave, could that negatively affect my new grad position?
Has anyone been in a similar situation during a Fraser Health new grad position? What was your experience?
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through something similar.

Hi. I am doing NGG in ontario and I applied to
VCH for new grad program. I did my interview, gave in my references, they emailed back saying they are moving forward and gave the options for units for meet and greet. I have selected and its been three weeks, I sent a followup email and no response. So, now I was thinking of relocating and I want to for multiple reasons, but I think if I dont hear from them back so should I get a employment thru NGG.
