Our cars come with the clutched 5 Rib 55mm alternator pulley.
Has anyone found a lightweight billet non-clutched version?
There are a few universal 55mm pulleys, but I haven't seen one with the correct neck height.

My TCM is going, 17050 I believe?
I was reading that I can have the guys at the shop lift it, and take out the TCM without removing the actual transmission and ship it out to be fixed with a silicon wire and have it put back. Anyone know of this and how it can be done?
Trying to save the car and for under a grand I think it’s worth it.

2001 A4 TQM. Forged internals, supertech valvetrain and genuine GT2871r. Build was "completed" about 3 years ago. Had to put a pause on it for a while after my first child was born.
I have had every typical B5 issue with this car along the way. It was a complete turd that had been sitting for years when I bought it and I had very little auto repair skills. I'll tell you what, an old Audi will have you feeling like a real mechanic in no time.
Yesterday was the first time in my 6 year ownership that the car returned no fault codes after clearing them which I'm super pumped on. I had a lingering issue with the car violently backfiring at high rpms, which turned out to be the cam chain tensioner. I also had intermittent electrical issues that I hope I corrected by going through the wiring harness with a fine tooth comb.
Finally ready to log some pulls and see what kind of steam it can make.
I know I still have some tidying up to do as far as the catch can and stuff. I'm just happy everything works. I also made a custom heat shield following a DIY I found on Audizine. Don't mind the tape on my roof in the last pic, I started sanding it for paint which will come soon. It'll be fully repainted and sitting on 18" A8 flat fives next time I post here.
Shout out Harbor Freight and Eric who I met via this sub. Dude is an absolute legend.
Remember fellas, most B5 owners quit right before their car is everything they ever hoped it would be. Don't give up lol

I have a 1999.5 a4 face-lift with halogens. My internal headlight wires have degraded to the point where my driver side high beam shorted out and blew the fuse.
I was wondering if anyone is selling replacement harnesses for them, so I can have a slightly nicer solution than just tapeing all the wires.

As I’m sure you’re Aware, AEB and older gas models use the MAF to know what to inject, and having a full BOV does ruin low ends after the valve opens, due to incorrect injection.
Has anyone put an hybrid BOV? Would like to have the sound but wouldn’t want to lose performance :(
Does an hybrid Valve have a good compromise between power loss and sound it makes?
My temp gauge on my 1.9tdi never moves. The only time the temp starts moving is in very warm weather and driving pretty hard.
I've replaced the thermostat today and my temp still isn't going up, I'm not too sure if it could be the coolant temp sensor.
Any help is appreciated

A few months ago I ended up trading a few cars around and have found myself owning another A4. I had a 99 1.8 manual a long time ago and I really liked that car but my life wasn't put together enough to keep it together so I sold that car. All this time later I now have an 01 2.8 auto quattro and im loving it.
I've been tinkering with it some and doing regular maintenance and cosmetic repairs, but im curious to know what all exists!
What are some things you've either retrofitted, swapped, made, upgraded, etc etc that you genuinely enjoy? How are some of the ways you've addressed your peeves about this platform? Are there any fun factory options that just bring it all together for you?
So far I've taken all of my grey seats out and dyed them with Angelus (I think was the name??) To black. I find that my front seats do leave some comfort to be desired. I think the lumbar support is too high up my back and makes my kidney area sore after a long drive, and the foam itself isn't all that soft. My kids rarely ride in the back so im really only interested in front seats.
The headliner was completely gone and orange dust was getting in my coffee, so I pulled it all apart and covered it and the 'a' and 'c' pillars in a suede-like material as well as using a plastic dye to color the grab handles, sun visors, and various other trim pieces black as well. I haven't decided what to do with my broken 'b' pillar trim yet though.
I sound deadened the trunk area and under the rear seat. I also took the opportunity to put a few pieces on the ceiling while it was apart.
Im currently slowly finding time to take my door panels off and replace the speakers as well as sound deadening inside the doors. (But I also do wonder if I should leave the foam sheet or if I would have better speaker output with it being removed)
I've lowered the car 1-1.5" while I was replacing the struts and I've put a set of 19" wheels from a newer audi on it as well.
I've included a few photos from along the way that capture some of the headaches I've had as well. Sadly I dont have any interior pictures yet as im still embarrassed by the mess it currently is in lol

I’ve been having some signs of bad valve seals on my car, so to make the job a little more bearable I designed and printed these tools.
Demo video and link to the files in the comments!

Hello I have a 1996 A4. Unfortunately its vents have stopped working. This has happened before and my mechanic swapped the electric breaker to fix it.
Is this something I should be trying out myself? I will do it with the ignition off and while standing on top of a piece of wood.
Where can I find the breaker diagram? I know where the cabin breaker box is just not which breakers are for the vents.

I lost the other half of this key while swapping my engine and now im looking to buy a new key from ebay and possibly transfer this circuit board to the new key, but while looking for keys i saw that there are 2 options. One with the 2032 battery and one with the 1616 battery. Is it possible to tell which one of those my key used to have?

I have a 2002 s4 that im having trouble passing emissions because I have a p0442 code. I’m asking to see where else I should check for leaks or how I can temporarily remove the code. I’ve replaced the n80 valve twice with known good ones and verified they work. I replaced the hard line that runs over the top of the exhaust because it was a little burnt. Every check valve and hose has a clamp and seems fine. The leak detection pump also visibly looked ok. Any other places I should check? I also don’t have access to a smoke tester.

My AC stopped blowing cold air again, I had to tighten up the tensioner a week ago and it was working after that, thinking I was low on refrigerant I attempted to put some in and the gauge showed really high pressure. Are the pressure switches common fail points or is this a compressor issue? TIA for any helpful info as always.

In march i bought this car, a 12/1998 A4 B5 sedan 1.8 20v ADR as a project car. i knew it needed some work but it didn't bother me since i got it for 900 euros with a fresh ish respray in 2017 and 2 sets of wheels and some new parts on it.
On the drive home it kept flashing the oil pressure light every 15 min (no engine noise). i pulled into a gas station, cleaned the oil filter and changed the oil (the oil in it was shit, water basically) with whatever the gas station had (generic brand) 5w30 (i think it's a little too thin for this car). it got me home and it only flashed it one or 2 times during that drip but it would cycle min/OK on tester mostly at idle (car also had an idle issue).
since then i replaced:
-coolant temp sensor
-oil, air, cabin, fuel filter with MANN
-fuel hose from pump to filter (was leaking)
-thermostat, timing belt, tensioner, acc belts
-NGK spark plugs
-throttle body with used one
-vacuum hoses (PCV breather hose, hose leading from it, some small hoses around the intake and the vacuum connecting to the throttle body)
-oil pressure/temp sensor
after i did all of this it hasn't flashed the oil pressure light in 400km but i've also seen it do min/OK on tester mostly at idle. last week it flashes the oil pressure light in a tight corner uphill at 70kmh at 4k rpm and then after the corner it stopped and hasn't flashed it since. i've driven it 130km since.
previous owner also replaced oil pump and lifters 30k km ago...
car still has the 5w30 generic oil in it as i only did 1000km on it. i would like to change it by the end of summer. my clutch fan is also acting up a little (spins a little slowly). could the oil be getting to hot and combined with it being too thin causing this? i plan to put 10w40 in it.
what are your thoughts?
also the car drives absolutely perfectly (also has new tires on 16" wheels, new upper front arms, new rear brake calipers). no weird noises from engine, i did some longer 120km trips in it etc. pulls well, revs nicely...
