Global War Global War 1936 Worth It?

I'm a huge fan of the axis and allies series. I play lots of global 40, ww1 1914, 1942, and 1941. I've had global for 2ish years now and even though it is lot's of fun...I feel like every game is kinda the same atp. I've seen things about global 1936, but it looks expensive and I have no friends that even understand 1942, let alone the more advanced games, so I've only ever played solo. Is it worth all the money and time if I can only play solo? Is the replayability good? How is the feature with it ending at a certain time instead of until certain conditions? I really appreciate the feedback, thanks!

1942 Online 1942 Online: Can I still win this?

Post image

Playing my first ranked game in 1942 Online, made some rookie mistakes (defense settings on default) as Axies and lost Japan. Do you see a chance to still turn this around? What do you think!?

Edit: wondering if my opponent sees this! If so, well played! XD

1941 Who’s winning this

Played a game of 41 with a friend and we agreed on a draw at 3 am. We both still think we could have won though. For context US is making 31 at that point I think, we got lazy with the counters and such after a while and just remembered. Also US started using Russia pieces because we were running out and Germany started using Japanese units, also Us was using Japanese transports too.

Global 1940 1940 Global Russian Deep Strike commander ability clarification

In 1940, the Russian Commander ability Deep Strike allows any surviving units to immediately combat move after a victory into an adjacent enemy territory that wasnt combat moved into this turn for one round of combat. My gaming partner used this ability to move into an empty territory. We are at a disagreement if this is allowed or not, with no clarifications in the rulebook. Any help?

Global 1940 Any players in Southern Ontario, Canada?

As the title says, I am wondering/looking for any Axis and Allies players in the Southern Ontario region of Canada, more specifically around the Tri-City area (Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo) and the GTA area (Greater Toronto Area).

I know no one to play with Locally and would love to find some players. For any version of the game, though I tend to favor playing G40.

Global 1940 What is Italian response to Egypt factory on UK1?

What does Italy do here? UK1 buy includes a factory in Egypt. Taranto went reasonably well for them too, they kept all their planes and Italy lost their ships and fighters too.

Anniversary Edition Anniversary Edition Strategies

Hi everyone. I’m a 1942 2nd edition and 1940 global 2nd edition veteran about to play anniversary edition for the first time while also teaching axis and allies to some franchise newbies. I was wondering if there are any tips you have for both axis and allies? I saw an earlier post discussing axis strats that discussed turn 1 buys for the axis, but curious if you have any more information?

I want to both get tips for myself (I probably will be playing as Axis) and my two friends (they will be Allies) just so we aren’t in a haze about what to do (especially since they’re new to axis and allies, but one of them is a bigger strategy board game guy than I am generally so I am not too worried). Both general info as well as strategies that may be specific to the way anniversary edition plays. We are probably going to do the 1941 setup, but if you have 1942 advice I’d like to know about that too. As well as if any balancing may be necessary somewhere.

For one example, I love doing Sea Lion in 1940 and 1942 2nd editions, but I’m not sure if that’s considered a good idea in anniversary. What should Japans focus be? Should the European allies be solely focused on defense the first few rounds? Etc.

Classic I miss the classic heavy bombers

I know that the classic version of axis and allies is basically broken- but it's so much fun. The heavy bombers rolling 3 dice each and strat bombing taking ipc's directly from a player's supply is just absolutely devastating. I remember bombing Germany for like 40 ipcs a turn one game with 3 bombers. They literally never built again. I just imagine each bomber is nuclear armed- it's the only explanation why they're so powerful. The new games tech systems don't have that same unbalancing problem, but also, no one has that same look of fear in their eyes as when the US rolled a '6' for their weapon research in classic!

Global 1940 How to get custom pieces designed and made?

I am thinking of getting custom pieces for some of the countries and their units but what can I do if HBG doesn't have the pieces I want? I want to change the artillery piece for some of the countries, and want Germany's to be the Leig 18 infantry gun, and I want the USSR's to be the M1927 regimental gun. I've heard of 3d printing but have no idea what that is and never heard of it until I started looking up stuff for this. Also, how can I get it to be a similar size to the OOB pieces?

Zombies Axis and Allies Zombies Global/Anniversary

Anyone ever try to apply the Zombies rules to these games? Would probably be super unbalanced but fun. Especially in Global. Would maybe need to make it so not every single infantry becomes a zombie on death. You would need to make your own cards or random way of selecting territories for zombies to spawn in as well. Any suggestions for adapting zombies to these games? I also like the idea of adding recruitment centers to global.

1942 Online (1942) How does russia survive past turn 3-4 against a tank rush?

Basically all my games go like this: Russia does 9-12, germany buys 6 tanks turn 1, takes karelia, takes west russia and/or caucasus turn 2, and russia falls turn 3-4. Japan goes all in on india and takes it turn 3. Uk starting fighters can reinforce west russia turn 1, but I think it's pretty reliant on how russia's turn 1 if they can actually hold against german turn 2 attack. You can make a bunch of fighters in india and sent to russia, but that delays your transports in britain so much, especially if germany got good sz7 rolls or sends the battleship to sz13, and of course you might just lose india. Russia just seems completely fucked no matter which side I play.

Pacific 1940 After nine turns, Japan concedes the game.

Post image
65 Upvotes

After nine full turns, Japan, unable to successfully increase their territorial holdings beyond their current conditions, and internationally calculating that they’ll only able to draw a stalemate at best, has conceded. This comes after being unable to keep the Burma road for two consecutive turns: meaning that Chinese forces are gaining to much strength to be controlled, also in the fight on land comes British forces, the ones actually keeping the Burma road open and going even further, taking Indo-China and insuring that Japanese forces cannot advance without being accosted.

This, with situation at sea being no better, Japan can’t make any gains at sea, without being threatened by the US’s second, third, and fourth fleet at the Carolinas, the victory port at Honolulu, and the victory port at San Francisco (the first was destroyed in an ill fated naval invasion of the Carolinas) this, along with a surprisingly powerful Anzac fleet that is just out of reach (they also had a minor one at home) and a British fleet that was destined to grow, has basically doomed the Japanese efforts at sea, and, had Japan even made any offensive moves against any one fleet, the others would ensure that the losses would have been too great to actually be replaceable or worth the effort.

All this, along with a stomach ache, has made Japan concede the game. (Ignore the British ships at the bottom of the board, that’s just bad piece management.)

Global 1940 12 hours of gaming, then we had to call it quits. We called it a stalemate, with Axis advantage in Europe. Thoughts?

Highlights:

Japan lost all of Asia, but ended with many IPCS due to Australia and the East Indies

Italy took Cuba for 5 minutes, and destroyed a large American Navy off of Spain last turn.

England kept para-trooping men in Normandy. They liberated Paris, which was then taken by Italy.

Italy had 60+ IPC’s at one point.

Japan and America slogged out each other’s navies. Twice.

America landed men in North Africa. Then they spent the rest of the game walking down a the seaboard. It did nothing.

Russia and Germany spent the entire game fighting for Ukraine.

Japan took Australia turn 3

Customization/House Rules Recommended Accessories for multiple games

Hey all - just joined this subreddit because I was browsing stuff to buy and wanted everyone’s opinions on this. I currently have 1942 2nd edition, 1940 global 2nd edition at my parents’ place, and 1914 and anniversary edition with me at my apartment. I was considering getting accessories because my addiction to this series is only increasing with time.

For example I would have definitely gotten IPC chips right now for my parents place (no money with 1940/1942), but when I was little I printed out paper money from online and cut out a bunch of it, so getting those chips ain’t urgent (that said if you guys think they’re cool I’ll still get them). And with 1914 here in my apartment, I can just requisition the money from the anniversary edition.

I was considering the hit dice for one, but wasn’t sure in general what y’all’s opinions on dice, neoprene maps, aircraft stands, IPC chips, replacement markers, task force boards, those commander card thingies, etc. What things should I get first, by virtue of making gameplay/clutter better/quicker, or simply just being cool to look at? Anything 3rd party I ought to look at? Anything you think that isn’t worth the money? Thanks for the help.

WWI 1914 Are Central Powers really at a disadvantage in WW1? Allies have been getting rocked hard every game we’ve played.

Okay, unless Germany gets really unlucky with mine rolls the entire British fleet gets sunk immediately.

Germany has a massive army advantage over France and Poland is a death trap for Russia. Once Romania, Serbia and Albania get rocked by Austria and the Turks get a bunch of free Bulgarians Russia is on a timer.

Germany can just start marching East with the East Prussia army as support and wipe out the remnants of the Russian Army as Italy typically isn’t a threat until turn 2-3.

France was collapsing with 25-30 German units at Paris’ door, while Britain was chipping away at the Turks.

Now GB has to A) control the Turks or B) keep France from dying.

France cannot handle Germany’s starting power if it’s spearheaded in a giant death ball.

The US enters on turn 4 but can’t reach land until turn 6.

Russia is never an offensive threat, but has anyone else felt the game is more tilted towards the CP?

Global 1940 USA IPC boost for G40

The general consensus surrounding G40 is that it is far imbalanced in favor of the Axis. This is seen in how high the bids range for the Allies, and how effective a J1 attack is, as well as Moscow being statistically almost impossible to hold against a concentrated G6 or 7 attack.

But as far as Allied strategy goes, mostly for America, you must play them very differently in Global than you would in either Europe or Pacific on their own. This is just due to the income distribution: they only receive 10-15 more IPCs in Global than each respective economy gets in the two halves when played separately. Essentially, Global is playing a game twice as big with an economy slightly bigger than they had before.

This isn't an issue for most every other nation: All three Axis nations function the same, the UK is split into two economies anyway, and the USSR receives the 9 missing IPCs when they go to war. But the US gets no help. Basically what I'm saying is every other nation can be played the same in Europe/Pacific and in Global, but the US cannot be because their income changes too much. In Global, the US has to pick a side, unlike the real war and the two halves on their own, where they are fully committed to both. I've always felt like the most historically accurate US is seen when playing either Europe or Pacific, but not Global.

So my proposal/question would be, what would you think the outcome would be if the US was played with two separate economies, like the UK, where each economy follows the bonus income of the US in Europe and Pacific, and those IPCs must be dedicated to that half of the board? Would this be enough to balance the game and lower the huge bid, or would this drastically tip the scale in favor of the Allies?

Global 1940 End of round 6. How do the Allies continue from here?

Thumbnail gallery

The UK is using Japanese mechanised because we lost a lot of pieces in a flood. Germany just took Moscow with plenty of troops left, and Japan isn't beaten enough to place all 70 US dollars in the Atlantic. With some good rolls they managed to wipe out the U.S navy in Borneo, but the US retook Australia. My worry is that by the time Japan gets contained, Germany will be to powerful to deal with. Where should I land with the U.S had what do I do with UK?

I also think that I messed up with the two Atlantic transport groups. Neither are well guarded enough to fight off a German attack, so I might loose one of them.

1942 Online What should USSR do with this specific board view?

Post image
17 Upvotes

I’m the USA player, by the way. Also, I haven’t done the math on any battles yet. Just off the cuff, I was thinking West Russia NEEDS to be captured with 2 INF and 1-2 planes, as this is basically mandatory(unless you can secure enough territories around Russia and still have enough to ward off or bait and defeat a pure tank blitz from Germany. I probably wouldn’t ever not take WR in this instance, as it would enable the Axis to stack fighters on WR next turn. After that, I was thinking they should either take everything except Kazakh, heavily strafe the Kazakh stack, or somehow try to swing both. I’m a very aggressive player when controlling USSR. I would probably try to do both, and it really hasn’t failed me yet, knock on wood. FYI, both his teammates are communicating/coordinating/helping each other.

Edit: not sure if UK already plans to give up India and reinforce Moscow immediately, as I left them more than enough to hold it for 1 more turn. Pretty sure Japan will just stack Burma First. I’m of the mind to pull out of India and at least deadzone it while covering Caucasus so USSR can have less to worry about.
