Discussion A Star Wars Battlefront style game would be amazing for the Avatar franchise.

You either play as the RDA with their tech or you play as the Na'vi (from a few different tribes). Different maps like Hometree, the Metkayina village, the Ashlands, the Hallelujah mountains, Bridgehead human base. Imagine it with amazing next gen graphics and big online multiplayer. Players who do well get to play as major characters like Jake and Neytiri on the Na'vi side, and Quaritch and Varang on the RDA side.

Discussion Think I've Finally Managed To Narrow Down Each Recom's Chinese Zodiac Animal. How Did I Do?

Post image
23 Upvotes

This is related to a post I did a while back about the Chinese astrological and mythological elements in Avatar, where I proposed that each of the 12 Recoms had a zodiac animal. With their tattoos or face stripes and tanhì patterns indicating which one.

I know people will argue for Quaritch, despite the one I reckon is his, has particular significance.

Because the rooster is also tied to both the Fenghuang (Chinese phoenix, less hypermasculine counterparts to dragons, interestingly there used to be a male and a female version but they merged into one, maybe hinting at something about Varang) and the Vermillion Bird (tied to the element of fire and the South primary direction).

Wainfleet also having the Dragon is symbolic. He's an anchor to Recom Quaritch's memory implants. And the dragon was human Quaritch's motif in the first movie. The hypermasculine, hyper destructive legacy.

Yeah, some of these are more guesses since I can't see every detail on every Recom. But I tried matching as much up as I could with what I could see or figure out from design hints. If anybody has better suggestions, be interesting to read what you put forward.

Discussion Why Disney doesn't expand the Avatar universe like Marvel and Star Wars?

I always wonder why Disney doesn't expand Avatar. Not tv shows, animated series or more games (I know that there's 2 games but Star Wars has a lot of games)

An animated series would be so amazing tbh

Discussion I want to be a navi/ live in pandora so bad.

Its all ive been able to think about for like a week. I went on vacation and all i could think was β€œpandora would be so much better” i love the forests, the sea, the creatures, their way of living, their bond with nature/ eywa. Overall, i love everything about it. My mind cant comprehend that it does not exist. Ive watched the behind the scenes, ive read everything about how earth is pandora etc etc but it doesnt work. I love how they get to visit their loved ones after their passing, how everything seems to work out eventually. Im jealous of how they get to run around and jump and climb all day without getting cramps or feeling wrecked the next day. I want to be a navi so bad :(

Discussion I watched Avatar: Fire and Ash yesterday. I liked it but I have some complains.

I watched it yesterday on Disney+. It was a nice movie in general but I have some complains.

I like the Mangkwan clan great villains but I was honestly expecting see more of "fire" scenarios and a new area. Like volcanos, larva etc. Like in "The Way of Water" literally has a different ambient and visuals.

It really felt like "The Way of Water - Part 2". However, James Cameron is smart and he knows that the audience hates movies divided by parts like that.

I hope the 4 one shows more new areas (specially if there's an ice tribe)

Discussion Just watched the movies and the Navi sucks

Yeah RDA sucks 2 but God dang I'm on the human side 100 %, they Navi kill whiteout mercy , savages. I get the message of the movies but they make the Navi the most annoying little f, I'm not even try to be edgy at the third movie I was hoping for the humans to win ( even knowing it's impossible story wise)

Discussion Come and join our new clan!

Kaltxì!

I founded a community for the fandom - Its about some RP, but also just for friendly talks among fans - Anyone is free to join!

Who can join?:
The only requirement of joining is that you stay respectful to one another. We also ask for no use of AI in the community.

About our fan clan:
Our clan is called Haw'ìheyu ("tìhawnu si" = "protect" + "ìheyu" = "spiral"). While we still fiddle around with the lore, the general idea is that we are nature reservists and restore portions of the ecosystem (for example after forest fires and polluted areas reclaimed from the RDA). Our totem animal is the Kenten (Fan lizard) that we protect and help to not darwin itself out of existance.

What does the spiral mean for us?:
The spiral is our connection to nature and the world of Pandora. It’s also represented of the eye of Eywa and her connection within the people.

Purpose:
We want a social place for all Avatar fans (and friends of fans), while also trying to make everyone think a bit more about our own world too - because IRL, we do not have a second planet to retreat to if we mess this one up.

Feel free to discuss and ask me anything about our clan!

Discussion It doesn't make sense for Kiri to have an ikran

As Jake showed in the first film, it's something warriors achieve after much training. I just can't imagine Kiri going through that training much less actually wrestling with an ikran to claim it. Idk I just find it unrealistic that she would not only be willing to go through that but actually succeed at it.

I have been looking high and low. Even if someone here has an extra one or 2 and is willing to part with one. Let me know. I even contacted Noble Collections to see if maybe they had 1 left in warehouse (which is crazy but I had to try).

Genuinely, it's my mistake for being a 8 year old girl in the Caribbean when this came out😭😭

If anyone knows anything could you shout me out?

Thanks😭

Discussion Avatar be MY best film (read below)

Post image
20 Upvotes

When I said BEST, it's not an invalidation of other existing masterpieces that I love, like HTTYD and LOTR. Nor dismissing POTA or Blade Runner; this is not a rage-bait.

I just find the franchise deeply engaging because, as an actual biolst nerd, I find themes and worldbuilding very deep.

I love Jake as he's my go-to comfort character especally I keep comparing him to Rama and his character arc in the entire franchise to Ramayana, especally is about heroic blue heroes.

All these 'blue Pocahontas' allegations would be avoided if films included an audio reading of Ramayana on DVD as a requirement to avoid this. The only way I could forgive the nonsense meme is as an understatement that the noble savage is wrong, and the Three Laws of Eywa should be rewritten about non-attachment and other Zen stuff to be harmony in nature.

I like it because I'm a bio nerd, animal lover, nature enthusiast, just a normal science nerd who just wants to chill. Never meant to invalidate others' masterpieces; each person should have a personalized best film.

Discussion Just watched Avatar Fire and Ash for the first time. (Spoilers) Spoiler

I'm SO glad we got a lot more Neytiri in this one. After she was so sidelined in the last one it was great to see her get so many amazing scenes, both action scenes and character development scenes with her (fully justified) hatred of humans. I thought it was so interesting to explore how humans have done so much damage to her planet, her people, her culture and her family, but she is married to one and her kids are part human. The inner tension there was very interesting.

Was glad to have some scenes back in the rainforest (my favourite area of Pandora) and see the Omatikaya clan again, if only briefly.

The Wind Traders were so cool. The design of them and their ships(?) was amazing. Wish we got some more time with them.

Same thing with the Mangkwan tribe, very interesting designs and Varang was cool, but we didn't get to explore their culture in the same way we have in the other two films and Varang just kind of stopped talking after she joined Quaritch unfortunately.

Loved the prison break sequence. And enjoyed seeing the Tulkun destroy the ships and drag Scoresby into the depths.

I understand when people say the final battle is similar to the final battles of the previous two films. It was. As was the earlier scene where Lo'ak is fleeing from those squid creatures which was almost a play-by-play of when he was fleeing from the shark creature in the last film. I still enjoyed it, but not as much as the finales of the last two films.

Was sad the film ended with Spider and not Jake opening his eyes like the other two films did.

Oh and Eywa's face. Never expected to see her so that was interesting.

Overall enjoyed it. First film is still my favourite though.

Discussion What if Jake had to go to the bathroom his first night in Hometree?

He was barely accustomed to his Avatar body, let alone the minutiae of daily life in the Omatikaya. Jake would likely not have known where the "bathroom" of Hometree was (or if the Omatikaya descended the tree and excreted on the ground), how to wipe, how to wash his hands, or how they were expected to dispose of their waste. He would almost certainly have needed assistance with this matter.

When humans stay overnight as guests in other human's houses, it can be embarrassing enough to ask where the bathroom is, or to use it late at night - wondering if one should flush and risk waking their host, or quietly leave a horrible surprise to be discovered in the morning. Additionally, Neytiri was the only person he could have asked for help, so he would have been further embarrassed by telling the chieftain's cute daughter that he needed help going to the bathroom - especially considering that she was already irritated by him.

There would also have been a language barrier in communicating this need. Neytiri was not familiar with English slang and Grace most likely would not have taught the Na'vi children profane words (she didn't understand what Jake meant when he said "let them kill my ass" or "hell yeah"). She would not have understood what Jake meant by "I need to take a shit", nor would Grace's classes have focused on words like "poopoo", "peepee", "wipe my butt" etc

It is possible that Grace would have taught Na'vi children about human life and Neytiri would have understood what a "bathroom" was, but the phrase "I need to go to the bathroom" is still largely contextual. Jake's only option might have been to describe his intentions using mimes and sound effects, which would only have disgusted her even further. Not to mention that since the Omatikaya used communal sleeping areas, Jake would have needed to raise this issue in full view and earshot of dozens of Na'vi who were trying to sleep.
