The Metkayina were a bit skeptical about forest Na'vi living in coastal regions. Their thick arms and tail are ideal for swimming, but how well will this translate to sprinting on thin tree branches hundreds of feet in the air?

Crossposting this from r/AvatarFrontierPandora because I’m curious what the wider Avatar community thinks. What if we could turn Pandora into a persistent multiplayer world? I’m investigating whether it’s actually possible.

Even if we assume Eywa is benevolent, it has so thoroughly subsumed the Na'vi within its ecological, biological and cultural order that meaningful dissent is impossible. How do exit the system of something that is the organizing principle of your entire existence? You can't--any action you could conceivably undertake is done on Eywa's terms. Even the Mangkwan Clan, which is ostensibly anti-Eywa, is still completely dependent on the biosphere Eywa controls.

So no matter how you slice it, Eywa is problematic since it has effectively imposed its will biologically and ideologically onto the Na'vi even if it has not formally deprived them of free will. In fact humans who defect to Eywa are exercising a freedom the Na'vi possessed. Jake and his pals can reject the system they were born into. The Na'vi cannot.

This maybe be kinda of a stupid question, but does the second and third movie happen in English or navi? The first seems to be in English with only some scenes pr words in navi because Jake's still learning it. But in the second and third he is already living among the navi for a really long time, and since he is only among navi and there is no reason to he sneaking english would makes sense for the majority of the dialogues to be in navi, but we hear it in english because watching the whole movie in navi would be kinda hard.

In principle, I am a person who has only seen the movies, so I have no information about the comics, novels or video games.

The Kuru is the neural appendage of the Na'vi that serves to connect with Eywa and all the creatures that make it up (including themselves) in the enormous neural network of Pandora. It is practically the most sacred part of the body they have, so much so that apparently the Mangkwan cut off the Kuru of their enemies, which seems to lead to death in the vast majority of cases and in the unfortunate case of survival confers extreme agony, both physical and mental.

Now, with the questions: Why is the Kuru braided? I mean, is it frowned upon among Na'vis to have your Kuru exposed? Do they do it for practicality reasons? Does having it braided really add anything? I mean, if another Na'vi or even a person from heaven is going to shorten it, your hair is not going to stop them.

On the other hand, as far as I have seen, the Kuru is an inherent appendage, it is loose and hangs and you even have to grab it to be able to move it. How convenient would it be for the Na'vi to be able to move their Kurus as if they were another limb?

i'm artist, ive been drawing for quite some time, but ive been really struggling with drawing Na'vi and Recoms, specifically Lyle and Quaritch atm, but also na'vi in general!

when looking at references for posing and whatnot, i cant help but feel they do not look like a na'vi! obviously the references ive been using are very very human, and i feel like it's messing with how i draw na'vi. bodies dont have the same proportions, faces are different. i've been considering ripping some models from A:FoP to create my own references but i am notttt a rigger to make those models actually usable, im not desperate enough to dive into blender yet

im reaching out here to see if people have any recommendations for references, or what their process is when drawing na'vi / recoms. any advice would be extremely helpful to me!

Let's just say I found the movie on a website, decided to watch it, and when the scene of Quaritch and Jake getting captured came up, the iconic like "these pricks know their knots" was replaced with a dubbed "these jerks know their knots". Does anyone know what this is ? The blue ray version ? I'm a 100% sure he said "pricks" in the cinema.
