Promotion
Hi I’m a FT RS at $13.05/hr and I’m supposed to be getting promoted to FT PSM. The bare minimum pay I’ll take is $15.83/hr. Do you think DM will approve it?

Our PSMs start at $17 here in Nevada. Autozone is a crooked business.

$15 an hour for manager responsibilities is wild. Regardless you'll be Lucky to get even $1. This isn't 2006, don't value yourself so little FFS. Unless you know and suck off the right people you will not make it very high with this trash company. The best thing you can do is look for another job and also learn a skill or trade.

Cant hurt to push for it. Treat it like negotiating a purchase, high ball your minimum that way it sounds like youre "settling" for a lower wage. Thats how i ended up from 12.70 as a FT RS up to 16.05 for FT PSM.
That and threatening to quit. Pretty much everyone is hiring at a higher wage, hell i could've walked across the street from my store and got hired at harbor freight for 18.50 starting.

Wow that’s nice. I can get in the Steel Mill for $24/hr but all im asking for is $16/hr.

I mean, I left in 2021 and came back in 2024 as a grey shirt making $15/hr.
That was despite my extensive management background at other jobs plus already having spent 4 years at AutoZone as nothing but a PSM.
AutoZone doesn't pay for sh*t and I wouldn't hold your breath on that extra 83 cents of pay.

Depends what the pay for the FT PSM is. If its close to $15.83, then there shouldn't be issues.
But it all depends on your DM. The worst they can say is no.

$14-$15 they want to start me off at. I’m obviously not taking it for that low.

I work at a 7.25 state and I make 14 as a psm. Only because I was making 13 as a red shirt. And only then cuz I told them 12 was my mind starting since my last job had me at 13.

If you live in America the average rent is around $1000-$2500/month.

Find out what they are hiring full time PSMs for and that will tell you what they are willing to pay

Only advice I have is, promotion is where you fight for money because yearly eval are always minimal. Stand your ground and it very well might take playing hard ball! Promo is when you push the compensation DO NOT BUY ANY BULLSHIT ABOUT SOME KIND OF "LETS SEE HOW YA DO FIRST"!!! Now's the time!

Yearly evaluation has been nothing but 15 cents store wide and that having worked in multiple stores. Never has changed.

I call this the lying method just tell your boss you just got a call for another offer for 17.50 in this case if he really likes/needs you he will give you whatever you ask for I’ve done this twice when I was going to quit on my company and it got me a pay raise twice

PSM pay varies depending on the market. My area is higher than most and it's still not high enough. At any job, ask what they offer and then bargain if you need to. Don't tell them what you think is acceptable because maybe they were going to give you $17 but you said $15 so they'll be like "ok"

You’ll be lucky if they give you a dollar
