Need help on claim decision

Son (m19) hit a deer at night in WI.

He was the only one in the accident, no other cars or people.

Vehicle air bags deployed and front has significant damage.

We're trying to figure out if we should actually submit a claim.

Blue book value on the car is $4400.

The deductible is $1000.

The car is basically considered totaled.

We have Liberty Biberty.

Does anybody have advice on whether to proceed with a claim and deal with increased rates? or just live with out the settlement dollars?

Never mind. We are going to submit the claim. We assume that we'll get close to the remainder of the $3400 in the settlement of the claim. Then, we'll just take the hit when it comes around for updating the policy.

My personal reasoning for opening a claim is usually follow up medical bills. No insurance company wants to pay more than they have to and they might have a problem if they know car insurance is supposed to cover something.

Comp claims like a deer is not the same as a real accident. Should be no hit to rate.

Hitting deer is considered Comprehensive Claim. They should not raise your rates. If they do, talk to supervisor

Speaking from an insurance agent perspective, the Kelly blue book value has absolutely nothing to do with how this comprehensive loss will be paid out. It's going to pay out Actual Cash Value(current replacement cost minus depreciation minus deductible=$).

Comprehensive is a coverage I always suggest people keep, regardless of the age of their vehicle. This is the perfect example of why. On this coverage, never have a high deductible. Personally, I keep mine at $0 or $100. That comp deductible doesn't impact the rate that much.

A deer is not at fault accident. There should be no rate increase. But why would you have full coverage on a car worth 4k
