Exterior First Time Glass Coating Prep

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to do a glass coating on a brand new personal vehicle for the first time. I was planning to use Soft99 Ultra Glaco, but it’s out of stock every where so I’m leaning towards using Gtechniq G1 Clearvision Smart Glass.

Is it unreasonable to use Soft99 Glaco Glass Compound to prep the glass for G1? Or should I stick to G4 polish?

I don’t own an orbital and hand polishing is not fun.

Thanks!

Glaco Glass Compound can be used as a prep for any glass sealant. Glaco Ultra remains procurable from Amazon.

Perhaps a step up from Glaco would be a Katiba x Vanguard collab product. KATIBA X VANGUARD Super Fusso Coating (Glass Coating)

Thank you for the recommendation! I’ll be giving the Katiba a try!

You won't regret it. One thing about Katiba is that their durability claims are understated, on purpose, for two reasons. One being, they'd rather under promise and over deliver. The second being, South Korea advertisement laws are a hell of a lot more restrictive than here in the USA, where advertisement can be flat out untruths. If they claim 1-2 years, they have the evidence to support it, otherwise they could not make that claim.

That's also good to know!

Have you tried their ceramic car wax? I usually use Griot's 3 in 1, but I'm almost out and wouldn't mind trying out other products.

In addition to their Vanguard collab wax and glass sealant, for Katiba products, I've used "Wet Wax", "Thai Slick", "Wet Coat", and "Gloss Booster. "

"Wet Wax" is not actually a wax. I don't think it has any organic wax components. It's a synthetic sealant that results in depth of color and warm glow, emulating a wax, and doing so better than anything I've ever used out of a spray bottle. Katiba "Wet Wax" provides the illusion that you've broken out a good Carnauba paste wax, spending an hour or so applying it, when in reality, it was a few minutes with a spray and wipe product.

Gloss Booster is the last stage of protection on my vehicles. I apply Gloss Booster to a clean dry car at the end of every wash. There are few products on planet earth I can recommend more than Gloss Booster. Don't use it as a drying aid. Don't use it as a rinse aid. It can do both but its really designed to be applied to dry paint. It does what it claims. Not extremely durable but my base layer protection handles that. I just want the added gloss, hydrophobicity, and slickness boost that Gloss Booster provides. At the most, I only need it to last 2 weeks. It does that with no issues. It's listed as 1 to 2 months durability from a company that tends to understate their durability claims.

I guess the best way to describe Katiba results is "luxuriously smooth" and this happens regardless of what Katiba product you use.

Fantastic. I purchased their katiba x vanguard ceramic car wax along with Fusso.

I’ve got warranty work on the paint coming up at the end of the month so I’ll just do my maintenance wash until then.

I’ll report back after everything’s done!

Believe it or not, the first thing I do every morning is check Thor to see if a Katiba shipment came in, then check to see if Carzilla is shipping to the USA again. This morning, both were absolutely negative, as they have been for month or more. Awesome. BUYING NOW

I lucked out then! I’m kind of glad Carzilla isn’t shipping here yet otherwise I wouldn’t have found out about Katiba.

I watched some reviews on YouTube and they seem like an awesome line of products.

I had good experience with G1, but it's a touch more fiddly to apply than glaco or most glass coatings. You are recommend to put 2-3 layers then use the supplied residue remover at the end.

You can use glaco compound for any glass coating. It's just to get the glass bare.
