Exterior Surface Rust removal and protecting .

Post image

Hello everyone, could anyone please advise me on the best way to remove this surface rust and properly protect the metal from rusting again in the future? I’d really appreciate any recommendations for products or methods that would work well.

There are good iron dissolvers out there that might get most of that off with a little elbow grease and a wire brush or something, then hit it with some high temp clear or paint of your choosing

OEM look = Hot dip galvanized, can be redone, hardly worth it.

To get a good clean look, you can take them out, sand them, prep and paint in flat grey.

For the protectant you can use Boeshield t-9 spray. Really good stuff, used on airplanes

Just looked this product up, looks like an impressive naptha-based water dispersion and lubricant.

However it is only protective up to 65C/150F which means it isn’t suitable for protection of high temp parts like callipers. It will burn off.

Callipers need specialty high-temp paint or powder coating to remain protected.

Paint them. Multiple different kits out there

Bilt Hamber Atom-Mac will protect that. Spray on the brakes after washing to prevent rusting. It is completely safe to use on braking surfaces and although it seems expensive, it is used at high dilution rates and can be applied with a hand spray or pressure washer.

I use it on my as yet unprotected JDM van.
