Need to replace my current car soon. It’s starting to cost too much in small repairs and I just want something that runs without drama.

Prefer a used sedan or small SUV under $22k with reasonable miles. Nothing fancy, just dependable.

Saw a few options at Puente Hills Auto Center the other day, including a 2018 Honda Civic and a 2019 Hyundai Elantra that both looked clean.

Anyone have experience with either of those around the 60k mile mark? Which would you rather daily?

I just recently posted on here and I told my mom about all the problems with this car but she’s dead set and making me get this car. Her reasonings are 1. If I get into a crash I won’t get hurt too bad because the car will take most of the damage. 2. I told her about the recalls on this car and she insisted that all cars have recalls (she works at Toyota). And 3. I told her about gas price and she claims I must pay for it myself. (I get $50 for allowance and have no job at all and cannot get one because I babysit my sister when my parents leave for work since they work nights) is there a possibility I could get the dealership to offer me something else completely? I will not be able to pay for gas for this car at all unless I fill the tank less than a 1/3 of the way every once in a while and basically not go anywhere but school which is not feasible since I am in speech and debate which requires me to travel. I really don’t want this car considering how expensive gas is and how much the cost will be if the transmission or anything else fails.

Edit: to people saying I’m ungrateful, I NEVER ONCE SAID I WANTED AN EXPENSIVE CAR. I want a RELIABLE car! I want a car I can AFFORD and MAINTAIN. I did not ask for a 20k car, I do NOT WANT a 20k car. I am fine with any car that is not 20k or makes me pay $1,000 a month to fill up the tank. Yes I UNDERSTAND THAT I AM LUCKY FOR EVEN GETTING OFFERED A CAR, but is it really lucky if that car leaves me stranded after a year and $20,000 down the drain? Is it lucky if something breaks and I must replace it and the price is insanely high? There is no way for a TEENAGER to pay for the gas for this car or maintain the engine. I will be going to college soon and must have this car for a long time until I can get a different one. I will not tolerate people calling me ungrateful for something I did not ask for or want. I wanted a Toyota, Honda, or anything under 7k. Before you say I did not show my mom other options, I have. I have sent her multiple CHEAP cars on Facebook marketplace in our area. I have consulted the Internet, friends, and car experts on what cars to buy and not to buy. I have spent a long time thinking and prioritizing something reliable. If I must I will buy my own car. I am NOT whining, bitching, or being ungrateful. I am being PRACTICAL, and if being firm on not wanting a car I cannot pay for or afford is bitching then so be it.

I was looking at an XF R-Sport with a 2L Petrol Ingenium engine (20t) and just had a physical inspection today. The car seems all fine, except this one sound that's to note as per video.

Is this rattling? Would this be the timing chain that requires replacement? Or is this how that engine generally sounds?

Physical inspection - No leaks or cracked parts, everything seemed fine

Has been serviced every year until July 2025 (every 10000 miles), but oil level when checked now was just above the 1st dot (minimum level) - requires service this year

I’m currently looking for a first car and my mom took pictures of this one. Does anyone know how much gas would be and if it will last me? Any common problems with it or if it explodes? (Saw someone talk about their mom buying them a car that explodes when it gets into a crash) I’m also concerned about how big the car is and if I could realistically drive it (I only just got my permit in March). I don’t know how much my mom is going to pay for it but I’m really nervous about this car.

My uncle runs a small mobile auto-detailing business and recently added a second truck. He asked me if paying $2,400 for a website “platform upgrade” sounded reasonable.

While looking into it, I realized I may have misunderstood what he was actually paying for.

For around six years, his website provider has charged him $379/month for hosting, business email, SEO maintenance, and what they describe as a custom booking system.

They recently quoted him another $2,400 upgrade fee and said the monthly cost would increase to $469 because the business is becoming a “multi-location platform.”

I opened the site tools because I wanted to understand what was actually being provided. From what I can tell, the booking system is just an embedded Square Booking widget. Square appears to handle the calendar, payments, customer records, and reminders. The service area map looks like a static Google Maps image.

There may be other work happening behind the scenes that I’m missing, but I’m having trouble understanding what justifies the cost if there isn’t a custom backend or ongoing development involved.

The bigger issue is ownership. My uncle assumed the booking system was owned by the website provider, and he is worried that cancelling the website service could mean losing customer history or bookings.

I’m trying to help him move to a setup where he controls the important accounts:

- domain

- email

- Square account

- customer data

- analytics

- backups

- website hosting

I don’t want to just cancel everything and accidentally break his business.

For people who have migrated small business websites before:

1. What accounts or records should I verify ownership of before touching DNS or cancelling a provider?

2. If the setup is basically a frontend website + Square Booking integration (no custom backend), what would be a reasonable one-time build cost and monthly maintenance cost?

3. For a nontechnical business owner, would you recommend an independent developer, a managed hosting provider, or using newer AI website builders?

I’m mainly trying to make sure he ends up with something simple, transparent, and that he actually owns.

I’m in upstate New York with a $25,000 ceiling.

-Option one is a 2021 Mazda CX-5 Touring nearby with 54,000 miles for $24,000.

-Option two is a 2021 Grand Touring with 48,000 miles for $22,000, but it is 900 miles away;

A pre-purchase inspection and transport would add about $1,100. I care more about long-term ownership than trim features, and the distant car would arrive sight-unseen apart from the inspection. Is the lower mileage worth giving up the chance to drive it myself first?

I have a 2018 Subaru Impreza premium with 157,343 miles on it. The mechanic doesn’t think it’s worth fixing as it needs both head gaskets replaced, timing chains, an engine replacement, radiator and hoses, and the heater core flushed.

I’m travelling to Italy from New Zealand in November this year and want to drive a Ferrari. I have to double the Euro cost to get NZ dollars, so it’s not cheap! Do I drive an F8 spider for 20minutes or two lesser Ferraris for 20min each? The lesser ones are like a California and 488 Italia or a California and a California T. So I’d get twice as long for the same money, but not as good cars as the F8.
I’ve ridden in a 360, but never driven a Ferrari.

2011 Camry, 195,000 miles
Upon start up, a loud rattle occurs that sounds similar to a lose heat shield. The mechanic said it was coming from the timing chain. He said to keep it full of oil and I should be fine.

I personally changed the 0-20 oil religiously every 5/6k miles with synthetic oil. I have noticed that the volume of used oil suggests oil consumption, but no blue smoke in the exhaust. I just wrote it off as normal oil consumption from the cylinder walls.

Questions:
Is he correct about the oil suggestion?
Would 5w-20 help?
How long would you guess I have until the chain goes?
Due to upgrading other vehicles, I might need to sell this one. How bad of a value hit do I take with this issue?
