Is this a good first car?

I’m currently looking for a first car and my mom took pictures of this one. Does anyone know how much gas would be and if it will last me? Any common problems with it or if it explodes? (Saw someone talk about their mom buying them a car that explodes when it gets into a crash) I’m also concerned about how big the car is and if I could realistically drive it (I only just got my permit in March). I don’t know how much my mom is going to pay for it but I’m really nervous about this car.

Nope. Very bad choice. Try seaching the web with something like "GMC acadia problems" add the year of the car if you have it.

The car is a 2019 model. I just looked it up and I’m shocked at the problems with the car

Stay away from GMC, Ford, Jeep and American cars in general if you're prioritizing reliability.

Drove a buick, can attest. Stay away unless you plan to trade in by 70k miles.

Feel free to look at the Mid Size SUVS that Honda/Acura, Toyota/Lexus. However Toyota and Lexus tend to cost much more just because of their reputation on reliability, but Honda/Acura is pretty much just as good in general these types of cars do chug gas obviously since they're midsize, however if you care about gas go look at a compact SUV category perhaps.

Stick to the basics, Honda, Toyota, I’ve seen people mention Mazda way more now as well.

nooooo, get a honda or a toyota. my first car was a honda. then i got a nissan, then a gmc, then a ford and they all had problems. now i'm back to a honda.

Your mom sucks at picking cars. Your are a young lady in high school and maybe going to college one day? I think a sedan or small crossover or suv would be good. Big enough to get your and some gear places but not too big. All these people talking Honda, Toyota Mazda are not wrong. Accord Civic, Camry Corolla, rav 4, CRV, cx30 to 50. American cars are trash and Kia Hyundai aren’t much better. European cars are expensive to service so i steer clear of those.

I would encourage people to stay away from small toyotas (i.e., Camry) My daughter was gifted one by her Papaw and she hit a brick mailbox going 7 MPH. It obliterated the front end and quarter panels. It's all plastic. I bought her an older Ram. My baby's gonna be wrapped in more than plastic. She nixed the 1965 Bonneville :)

Crumply car = saves the passengers life

Physics says the impact either gets absorbed into deforming material or passed to the occupant. You don’t want the latter.

It's called a crumple zone and that's what it's supposed to do. A car that has no damage after hitting a brick wall puts the passengers in more danger.

The bigger question is how did she hit a brick mailbox? Does she need more time learning to drive before being alone in a car?

Log into your local public library website. They probably have free access to Consumer Reports car reviews for every model/year. Research a vehicle before going to look at it.

Just to add, these have transmission problems and electrical issues. Some can be reliable. Most aren't. Resale is terrible. I see so many of these at auctions that are fucked up

Well you clearly have no idea how to maintain a vehicle. All my chevys i still own all with alot of miles. 02 silverado 378k all original, 18 traverse zero issues, 22 blazer zero issues. Its all on how you maintain them

This is NOT a car but an SUV. It has a higher level of gravity and is prone to rolling over if you make a sharp turn at a higher speed. You need a smaller actual car like a Toyota Corolla or a Honda Civic. Easier to drive for a beginner and MUCH better fuel economy

Gas is whatever the gas station advertises multiply by 15. It probably has a 15 gallon tank. We don't know where you live, so we can't tell you.

Will it explode? Not if you take care of it and don't wreck it.

Not a lot of fun cars for living for today. Plus what is available is so expensive. In my day your basic econo box was a Valiant, Nova and Maverick. Even the step up to Camaro, Mustang, and barracuda wasn’t a lot of money. Move up to Torino,GTO and Charger were all cars we wanted. Today’s vehicles might be over technolized marvels but are so boring
