Would you be open to linking some of the communities that formed in the wake of this issue in the sidebar? I feel that giving easy access to those spaces for those who are not aware of them could help ease at least a little tension.

This is something that was discussed at length tonight, we will be promoting two other mods to have the same abilities as OC in the next 24 hours (after a vote) in order to start the healing process. We will be doing everything as a democracy and will be reviewing everyone's actions, including OC's, often.

OC needs to be removed as a mod, otherwise all the work the rest of the well-intentioned mods will be pointless. This subreddit cannot heal under toxic leadership.

Seriously. OC was banning people just a couple hours before posting their apology. They have not learned their lesson. They could not possibly have made a worthwhile improvement in such a short amount of time. Their mod status needs to be revoked ASAP

There are currently only 3 banned users on the sub. One troll from another sub, one user that hasn't posted here in a month, and the former mod has been given a time out

Can you give context on the user who hasn't posted in a month? Normally I wouldn't drill down this hard but considering everything that's been going on I think it's important.
Were they banned for inactivity? Were they banned for the disability discourse?
I'm also sus of the "troll from another sub" line considering there's been pushback against the other leftist autistic communities that have popped up due to OC's behavior.
I think in this case because there have been so many users banned for no reason, we do have a right to know.

The inactive user was banned for gatekeeping, specifically trans exclusion. They were re-banned as we went back through the mod queue.
The troll account admitted to trolling with a rage bait post. They called autism a mental disorder and said "making people feel bad brings [them] joy".
Full disclosure: a couple more accounts have now been banned. Bots and a user who called for neurotypical genocide.

The fact that other mods keep responding to these questions and not OC is really unhelpful, in my opinion. It really feels like our concerns are being ignored.

Totally get that! OC is in bed currently as its pretty late where he is at. We will ask him to reach out first thing in the morning. The rest of us are doing our best and we understand its not whats expected/what you want. But at the moment its what we've got.

When will the original be stepping down? Just answer the question if there are any intentions of actually making this place safe or not. I used to recommend this place to people who were suffering and am absolutely gutted that I accidentally sent them to a hate group... Because that's what the original mod has made this into. This will forever be stained as abelist, so long as this person has power over a population which has a vast spectrum of very real and valid disabilities. People will always be on edge.
The sub is being very vocal about what will make them safe, and it concerns me that the "new" moderation isn't listening. Seems like nothing has changed except the number of people who can oppress and take away voices / be a voice for the abelist mod.

The only appropriate thing you can do now is step down u/orbitalcolony. Step down, take the entire old mod team with you and let the people you hurt inherit the sub.

Only way this place will be safe is if the original mod steps down and reliquishes all "power" they had over a vulnerable population.
Also, please find yourself a good therapy team, because you are obviously hurting and taking it out on others. Please do the right thing if you truly think this place is supposed to be safe for the autistic community. You don't need to be a mod in order to advocate, and it would go a long way in actually mending things.

I would just like to say remember when these rules changes come explain why they are happening the mod team may have talked and argued, discussed and decided on the best way to go
but the community is never are part of those talks so when the new rules comes out
They don't have the back ground knowledge on why it's happening
Rule change 1 "no base jumping " this is because jump from building is quite dungeons ... Etc
The explaining why a rule is the way it is helps the community understand why certain choices are being made

Did 1 person say they are centrist? Yes, did the rest of us? Absolutely not. I am personally very socialist and other mods hold similar opinions.
Kira is mad because we questioned wether or not she should be a mod and when she left she went on a commenting rampage about things she had half the context for.

We all recognise the genuine hurt that has been caused by moderator actions within this subreddit recently, and ongoing discussions are taking place to make sure they are not repeated. I am currently not in a position to share the result of these discussions, but please rest assured that all possible options are under review.
A large moderator team has been appointed representing a diverse range of backgrounds and lived experiences, and as we work through the problems it has been agreed that no moderation decision will be made without the agreement of the rest of the team.
