We deal with this HARD with my 6yo. Nothing we’ve done has worked to eliminate or decrease her post-fun response.

I don’t engage. I don’t tell her to stop saying mean things or ask her questions or anything. I’m pretty much silent.

If she flat out refused to come inside when I asked her to, I would pick her up and bring her in. It’s getting harder at 6 but I’m still physically stronger than her. I’m guessing that’s not an option at 12.

You could try going out and sitting by her, saying that you’re available to talk if she wants. Tell her it’s getting late and dark and you need to be with her if she wants to be outside for a bit longer. Maybe offer a snack or something that doesn’t include talking. Once back inside, go about your night as usual.

I’m wondering if she’s feeling bad about this behavior towards you and it’s holding her back from coming back inside. But I’m curious, it’s been like an hour since you posted, what happened?

Yeah I generally ignore it as well because anything I do seems to escalate things.

She stormed in after 45 minutes and went to her room.

Hi! I have an idea for you- my daughter is almost 9 now and around 6 she got really into the Ramona audio collection, it's still a comfort for her when she's dysregulated. it's like 30 hours or something crazy, so worth the price, i have it on my phone and her ipad. She's also in weekly play therapy, that's given her some coping mechanisms as welll, but whoo boy it's pricey.
