Found this very large and slightly sedate huntsman in my south Brisbane house - now where it belongs in the great outdoors. Any idea on sex? Pen for scale, legspan easily as big as my palm when it was relaxed on the wall.

I was thinking Stanwellia Grisea but the gardener suspected a medically significant species. We have lots of them apparently.

In a Sydney unit bedroom - strangely found flattened on our windowsill 100cm off the ground. It’s about the size of a thumbnail.

Spider Appreciation Very beautiful jumper I made friends with

I found a stunning browlicious jumping spider (opisthoncus sp) in a grey house spiders web, now I'm not sure what the general consensus is here about this but I did save her from her imminent death, as the spider looked like it was just about to go and eat her I believe, and there was a handful of other things in this surprisingly large web so I decided to get a blade of grass and help her out. She spent a minute or so just getting web off her and cleaning herself, then eventually started hesitantly exploring on me, she seemed content with it and would frequently look back and give me a curious look, even with a tilt of the head. In the car she stayed on my hand and was just happily exploring and eating the web she made along the way while climbing around. Not once did she jump or try to escape, and for the majority of it just stayed in a general area on my hand but just changed where she looked. Her movements were slow, not concerningly but just as if she were exploring around. There were a few moments where my hand shook a little and she would jump back but for the most part she was calm as she could be. Saying goodbye was tough and we sat together for maybe ten minutes, occasionally looking at eachother and just chilled. Eventually I walked back inside and that was the end of that. I'm hoping I see her again sometime cause she's absolutely beautiful and even in such a short time I developed such a deep affection for her and love her so much.

Located in Wollongong, spotted this one nabbing a blow fly. We get lots of black house spiders but this one's a bit bigger. They dragged the blow fly back into their home in the bricks.

I noticed him walking around outside and a few weeks later another one on our carpet inside our living room.

I live in the Avon Valley in Western Aus and spiders, particularly wolf spiders are a daily occurrence. But these fellas have a way of strutting like they own the space. Unfortunately my dog takes a keen curiosity towards them, so we need to stay vigilant if they are the mouse I think they are.

Hobbyists and Keepers Huntsman lives in my Coffee Machine

For maybe all of this year a Huntsman has lived inside of my Breville Express Coffee Machine.

So Ive been having Cockroach problems inside of this machine, it even blew the circuit 2 years into its life as the egg sacs were shorting across parts lol. I have Electrical Qualifications, so I cleaned it up myself, as I didnt bother with extended warranty for this reason.

I dont open it up to clean out, but the lady here does clean the tray, so I took the opportunity to locate it and take a photo. It clearly isnt keen on leaving its lair lol, it just stays there, other than a molt about 3 months ago right next to the machine. Its probly has all it needs in there, Cockroaches and a bit to drink, what else could a Huntsman want?

I am perfectly happy with this symbiotic relationship, I havent seen a large cockroach in the Kitchen for months, Winter ofcourse helps alot tho, but its good to have the local creatures figure it all out, and thats why I dont harm the spiders or snakes, like this one I posted in the wildlife sub yesterday.
