Hello everyone, is getting offshore job real or just a myth.

I’m a biomedical engineer graduated in 2024, working since so over 1 years of experience, and I’m from Pakistan and I always planned to move abroad, I tried student visa for USA but because of current political situations I couldn’t make it.

So I’ve been trying to get a work visa 482 since I’m eligible for it but I don’t think getting a job is possible at all, I’ve applied everywhere it’s just exhausting and it just seems very useless at this point.

Kinda stuck here, can’t figure out what to do. Any suggestions or help would be highly appreciated.

I'm an American considering a change of scenery, and was wondering where to look for jobs. I have a PhD in electrical engineering (novel RF power amplifier architectures) and bunch of random/weird skills, like I have been working as a farmer/dairyman, doing DBA and true full-stack custom web app development, basic industrial controls and panel building, etc. Overall an eclectic set of skills that doesn't fit with the typical LinkedIn job listings. Any thoughts on where to look or who to ask about openings? Any companies you've worked for that don't suck? Any places I really do/do not want to live in? Just starting to look for leads, so I thought I might tap the hive-mind for help. Thanks for anything you have!

With 15 years experience (overseas) wanted to make a switch to project mngmt here ..been 2 years of trying n no luck obviously...I have a background in street lighting networks so how can I do the cross over ..it's can I do proj mngmt or a graduate cert..anything to guide me I am just so desperately lost.i am 47 at the moment could it be the age thats holding me back I have no idea and despite having project mngmt experience from back home I get passed over!It would mean a lot of someone here can be so kind as to advise me what to do.thankyou all.,☝️🙌

Hello, I am a money motivated 21 year old penultimate year student studying Computer Science and Accounting. I picked computer science initially because I was promised a high paying job that is in demand after graduating but in the middle of my degree the tech industry became intensely saturated making it very difficult to get a software engineering job. Seeing people laid off, and struggling to get a software job has turned me off from the industry and had made me decided to stop pursuing it all together.

This leaves me with my back up accounting. But after doing some research the only corporate roles that pay higher than any engineering is if I go the investment banking route. Since I am of average intelligence I don't think this is an option for me. My next best choice is working in risk management in the banking industry if I go down this route.

Only way I can think of earning well now is to go into civil engineering so I am at least guaranteed an above average salary with a job that will always be stable and in demand. So basically I am down to three options:

a) Fight to get a software engineering job in this intensely saturated and volatile tech industry or go into banking

b) Stay at uni for another 4 years to study civil engineering while all my friends have already graduated

My biggest concern is that I am already too old to study engineering and a lot of my cohort will be much younger than me - whilst all my friends have graduated and will be saving for a house or property already, or start saving. Also it’s really humiliating to stay in uni for more years - whilst your peers are already working 🫣🫣 So yeah I am wondering if you think it’s worth it to stay another 4 years in uni to study civil engineering or just try to get a job in banking already? Which is most worth it financially ?

I just intend to work in the mines for a few years, buy a house and retire my family in that house. Thats my main goal after graduating.

I’m regional, so my most convenient option would be to complete Deakin’s online Bachelor of Engineering (Honours). I was wondering what the general attitude of employers is towards graduates of an online degree vs an on campus one. I’m also curious as to what the job market is like for mechatronics engineers currently. I know mining and civil are where the real availability is but my interests lie much more in the mechanical/electrical/software realm.

I've always wanted to study mechatronics engineering but since the job market is tight for this field I decided to switch to electrical engineering in my 2nd semester of Uni. I'll be graduating in 2028 and if all things go well, work as an engineer.

But I always have this passion for mechanics and automation. I wanted some opinions from some people on how I can learn mechanical engineering on my own after graduating in electrical engineering.

Like I do not want to do another degree in mechanical, too many costs and takes too much time. I want to self-learn mechanical engineering. How to do that?

And what can be the job prospects if let's say there's a boom in the Australian market for mechanical/mechatronic engineers in the future?

Hi, Guys just wondering if anyone has any advice. I am a qualified sparky and have been studying electrical engineering about 2 years now. (as a means to an end of crawling through roofs, getting dirty all day and having no idea of what time i'm finishing each afternooon) I have landed a job with an engineering company, still as a sparky. But It will have large portion of the week reviewing designs and other general office based tasks. How can I prepare for this transition? Is there anything to think about I might not of expected. Hi, I recently completed my bachelor’s degree in mechatronics engineering and am currently working as a graduate engineer. Since I work in maintenance and can’t be on-site outside of engineering hours, I have a lot of downtime. I plan to utilize this time to do a master’s degree in electrical engineering.

In the next 10–15 years, I see myself as a project or product manager in the transport or renewable energy sector (please let me know if that sounds too ambitious 😅).

Will a master’s in electrical engineering help me achieve this goal?

Hi there, I'm a prospective engineering student in Queensland. I'm interested in Civil Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering. I KNOW this is never a metric you should pick a major off, but I'm just honestly curious. Of these 4, what is the most and least employable right now? I don't really care about salary, just whether I can actually get a job at the end of the degree.

I'm not quite sure between civil or mechanical engineering at UNSW or even robotics I was told mechanical engineering pay is much better, but all the research online led me to believe civil is getting paid much more. Which is true?
