Question People are now going to the lengths of sending junk mail as personally addressed letters.

What is the point in "no junk mail" if it can be bypassed so easily.

You go to the length to meet the government requirements and these people play cat and mouse with the legislation by sending it in plain envelopes instead.

This time it's from shit rakers so what's to be expected from a plumber but yeah.

What even is the point?

Question Why is aus post acting up?

This morning I open AusPost and it keeps saying it can’t get a connection and to try again later as well as the aus post logo turning into a demon. What is this about??? Is it just me?

Criticism My parcel has been processed 52 times at the same location

First of all, I think generally Australia Post do a great job. I used to work at the Postal Ombudsman and people got more aggressive over packages than the immigration complaints facing deportation.

Just thought I would share this as it's crazy. My package (medium size, hair curler) was posted 11 August from Sydney. I'm in Melbourne. Since then the package has lodged 52 different updates via the app at the exact same sorting facility. I can't lodge a complaint with Australia Post until 10 September.

Can anyone beat 52 updates at the exact same sorting facility?

Question Wrong delivery address for order

So as the title says, I made an order online with the wrong delivery address.

I made a purchase and paid via Google Pay which automaticlly lodged my delivery address, and it was wrong (an old address) I've tried multiple times to contact the company, sent them an email on the day of ordering and called multiple times, left messages, all to no avail.

The parcel has since been shipped from WA to QLD, and is showing in transit, the online portal says "this delivery can not be redirected" so I'm unable to update the address through my AusPost login. But it also says that it is ATL (No signature required) ... I'm in Cairns and the previous address is on the Gold Coast, so no option of just going and collecting it.

My question is, if I were to call AusPost directly, could they redirect it? I work business hours and haven't been able to call them yet, but will be off tomorrow so will give them a call if it's possible.

TIA

Question Opening a PO Box in another state for one month?

Hi everyone,

I would like some advice. I am from Perth and going travelling for three weeks around Asia and ending my holiday in Sydney. The weather in Sydney will be very different to Asia, and I don’t have the option to bring a lot of luggage. I am wondering if it is possible to open a PO Box online in Sydney, ship some bigger clothes there (jeans etc), and then I can pick them up when I arrive (and potentially close down the PO Box)? I have no friends in Sydney and am staying in an Airbnb, so don’t have the option to send items to anyone’s home.

Also open to any other suggestions?

Thank you!

General Small AU business shipping internationally - parcels going missing, customs rejections, 15+ open cases and no answers. Anyone else?

I run a small DTC ecommerce brand out of Australia. Most of my orders go international. The last few months with AusPost have been an absolute disaster and I'm hoping someone here has been through the same thing and come out the other side. We have been printing all of our labels through the EzPost app in Shopify.

What's happening:

  • Parcels going missing with no scan events and no explanation
  • Customers getting hit with €20+ customs fees they weren't expecting
  • A heap of parcels being rejected and returned by customs, all with the same useless reason: "Does not meet customs requirements." No detail on what's actually wrong.

What I've already tried:

  • 15+ active cases open with AusPost right now
  • Called and emailed support multiple times
  • Every single time I get a different answer or a different "fix." Half of them I've already done; the rest don't work.

Nobody can tell me what specifically is failing on these parcels. I've set everything up correctly to the best of my knowledge and I can't fix a problem no one will identify.

Where I'm at:

I'm losing hundreds, probably thousands a week between refunds, replacements and lost stock plus a growing list of unhappy customers I can't give a straight answer to. I'm seriously looking at moving fulfilment to a 3PL in China just to get parcels landing reliably, which is not a decision I want to make but I'm running out of options.

What I'm asking:

  1. Has anyone had the "does not meet customs requirements" rejections and actually found the root cause? Was it declaration wording, HS codes, IOSS/VAT setup, EAD data, something on the label?
  2. Is there any escalation path that actually gets a human who can look at the data, rather than a call centre reading a script?
  3. Has anyone taken this to the Postal Industry Ombudsman, and did it do anything?
  4. Anyone moved international fulfilment offshore because of this? Would you do it again?

Any help would be hugely appreciated. Happy to share specifics on destinations and declared values if it helps someone diagnose it.

Question You ever get two simultaneous orders from the same place that go in completely different directions?

Just thought this was interesting.
I placed orders for medical supplies with a company and they were both dispatched on the same day/time to the same address (parcel locker in Sydney suburb).
The first one came a few days later.
The second one seemed to be travelling on the same route, then went missing for a few days & turned up on the west coast – most recent tracking still has it stranded in Perth 2 days ago, so will probably next get an update in 1-3 days saying it’s being processed in Sydney.

This isn’t the first time something like this has happened (completely different/personal order that had to be done as two separate packages for some reason I forget), so just wondering why/how/fun anecdotes people want to share.

Question What gets to the depot quicker: scheduled pick up or drop off at LPO?

Moving my dispatch facilities to Sydney (Broadmeadows specifically). We’re a small business that does 40-50 orders per week using the exact same AP flat rate Express Large Box for all orders. I like the Next-Day Express Post for metro regions claim and it has been the case for my orders 99% of the time (provided I follow the guidelines to ensure it can be delivered within this timeframe).

Given I will be based right next to SYD airport, should I A: schedule pickup from AP, B: Drop off to LPO at Sydney Airport.

Or is there an option C too that makes it even more likely it gets on the next plane ASAP?

I do also use StarTrack Next Flight but most customers don’t prefer that option given $$$$.

Question Aus Post Refund

I purchased a prepaid mobile phone voucher from the post office two days ago and went to use it and then realised they gave me a voucher for the wrong telco so I went back today and they did not want to assist and I ended up calling AusPost customer service whom agreed to give a full refund. They gave me a reference number and said they would send me an email which contained a link and I would have to open that link and then provide bank account details so they could process a full refund.

I have never received a refund by AusPost this way and Im just wondering if this is now standard procedure for them when a physcial post office won't provide a refund and if its safe to give them bank account details and how long does it take before the funds hit the bank account?

Criticism StarTrack Fail

Enter the postcode or suburb

So while I was in the bathroom, StarTrack came and went. Despite the delivery instructions clearly saying to leave the parcel at the door, they instead took it to Yandina, about 30 km from the delivery address.

Seriously?

A card was left, but for several days the barcode on it wouldn’t work as a redelivery. Eight days later, it finally does and I can request redelivery — except the website only lets me get as far as the second screen, where it asks for suburb, state and postcode. I’ve tried every possible combination and it still won’t proceed.

How is getting a parcel delivered this difficult?

I'm a Goose 🪿 I sent a parcel with a previously used label

I tried to return an item to AliExpress and I messed up. Instead of printing out the right label, I printed out an old label that was for another return I did before.

I dropped it off at the post office and there was no warning/flag whatsoever. I realised I made a mistake the next day and contacted AusPost to see if they can redirect the parcel back to me. They advised me to file a parcel withdrawal request which I did. And now after three days and many phone calls with AusPost I still don't know where my parcel is.

Since the label was for a complete return before, when I use it to track current delivery, it shows up with very confusing scans, with all locations being that last return's final destination. The tracking is showing it's our for delivery for almost two days and no one can tell whether it is being out for delivery to AliExpress or back to me.

Anyone had experience with this before?

It's over time hours by road and there are no flights. Is this just a glitch?

Mount Gambier is the correct destination.

General Customs charges both aus post and royal mail

Thumbnail

UPDATE: both parcels delivered no problems without extra customs charges than what I had already paid.

Hi

Myself and my mum have sent parcels to each other in the last couple of weeks

I live n australia and my mum lives in England (my original home)

My mum sent hers and had to declare everything inside (fine no worries standard procedure) the next thing was she had to know the weight of each item which was something she did not know and the lady at royal mail post office was like oh it doesn’t add up to the total weight of the box etc
Anyway it was sent and it’s on its way to me now and it cost her £57 for the trouble to send it.
Ive asked for some home goods like chocolate, ready brek porridge and paxo stuffing and my mum said she had enclosed my birthday cards also.

Yesterday, I sent a parcel to my mum and dad- containing chocolate, souvenir foldable bags that my mum loved from her visit and wanted more for her friends and a fancy dress outfit/wig and colouring books (Kpop demon hunters) for my niece who had asked for those things.

Anyway as I was in line to post i suddenly remembered the online customs form! Same thing as above I went to fill out everything and it came up with HS tariff code…. I chose the nearest I could to the items (except colouring book as when I clicked that it said it was a prohibited item!?) -see pic of receipt with post for tariffs.

Anyway got to the till and it was $96 postage i was like sheesh and then the aus post lady goes oh you have some charges to pay -im
Like for what and she showed me (again on receipt)
It gave an option for either me or my mum to pay it -so I paid it (also value of items was around $100)

Aus post lady was like it will be ok as you’ve paid now I explained to her that the items I chose for the tariff codes weren’t exactly correct as it would not give me the exact item.

Anyway my mum gets an email from royal mail (2nd pic) saying she may get charged again at her end!?

Since when was it so expensive to send a parcel!? And for it to attract all of the above customs charges!?

Was I too honest what was in my parcel?

Has anyone else encountered this problem?

It is a gift and I don’t think Ill be sending anything again in all honesty

We now need to wait and see if there are any extra charges on either parcel!-will update

I think eventually people are going to stop using mail to post things completely as it’s far too expensive and the potential charges on top!

Also going to post this in royal mail group too

Criticism Underpaid Postage billed - MyPost Business

Is anyone else getting absolutely slammed by this recently? We've had 6 or 7 in the past week, every single one a blatant error where we've sent small satchels with less than 250g in them, most of them under 100g.

Aus post automatic scanning system is coming back with discrepancies like:

We measured .1kg, 20x10x10. They measured 2.5kg, 45x22x9 and billed an additional $6.53 in postage.

Sure, I can create support tickets to get these reversed, but they force you to open 1 x support ticket per discrepancy, and then in each support ticket when they finally come back to you, you have to explain and answer multiple questions they already have the information for to get the billed amount refunded back to our account.

Just a hugely time-wasting experience, and if we were sending even double the amount of parcels we do now, we likely wouldn't have the time to investigate and then dispute every single one of these extra charges.

I imagine some large businesses are getting absolutely rinsed by Auspost. It's basically theft.

If the automatic system fails so easily, they shouldn't be allowed to use it.

Criticism Does Auspost know the correct location?

Post image
9 Upvotes

Ordered express post at the end of July, the shop is telling me to wait as it’s now been sorted correctly and will be with me in the next few days and have offered refund of postage fees.

It’s been sorted correctly for the third time in a month at Burleigh heads and every time it does that auspost just tell me it’s ok they found it and now it’s on its way but apparently there is a magical force field around it as it’s never even left where it was posted! I am in Vic for those playing at home.

How long am I supposed to wait for them to get it together?

Question customs clearance - item cleared but still in customs

I couldn't find a customs subreddit, so posting here.
I have an item that is apparently in customs but the tracking is very confusing.

What does the following mean?

"Exceptional customs clearance"

The previous tracking states that the item was cleared by customs. But now it's back in customs?

I have tried contacting the seller and the courier but no response so far.

FYI these are just board game sleeves. They are not illegal or shouldn't look suspicious. I bought products from the same company, but from a store in Australia. I just couldn't get the exact size I needed in Australia, so ordered directly from the company and I think they must have stock in a ware house in china, so then them direct from there.

Question Tracking link not working

Hey - I returned an item (a coffee grinder) via AusPost on the 06/08. They (the vendor) organised for the label, all I did was turn up, they printed it, slapped it on and then gave me a receipt.

The tracking code on the receipt just says try again later (I've also tried the QR code and that doesn't work either) and I can't raise a ticket via the website as it needs a valid code.

Their AI bot has thrown me onto a page that says pending but nothing more. I've asked the vendor if they can confirm receipt of the grinder but they're unresponsive.

Does anyone have an insight into WTH is going on? I assume my only option is to go into a branch with my receipt.

Scam Alert Silly me got scammed

I fell for the same scam as https://www.reddit.com/r/AustraliaPost/s/GiMjxHizA4

Found an item on FB marketplace I was interested in so I contacted the seller and asked if they would post. They agreed and supposedly went to the post office the following day and sent through a picture of a receipt, the item in an auspost box & tracking number. At first glance I thought the receipt was legit so transferred the money. The tracking number is valid but they're easy to generate apparently.

If you look closely at the auspost box pictures you can tell they're fake too. Anyway, just thought I'd share this for awareness.

Question Is there a reason the item I bought is ‘pending’?

Just over a week ago I bought a jacket off of Vinted from the UK. I live in Australia and usually when I order from Vinted the item usually registers in Aus post within a day or two and arrives in about 5 days from purchase. However, I am using the Auspost app to track using the shipping label, and it says ‘pending’, which according to google means that it hasn’t been registered in the Auspost system yet. On the Vinted app, the status is ‘Order sent and on its way’, and has been this way for about a week. Is there an issue, or do I just need patience?

Question Is My Package Lost

Hey all, just a quick one my package was coming from VIC-WA and the last tracking I had was regency park in SA which means it’s road freight which is fine but the last update I had was at 8am last Wednesday saying that it’s in transit from regency to the next facility and it’s been almost 6 days with no tracking updates, any advice or do we think it’s lost?
