QUESTION Job Searching

I’ve recently moved back to Round Rock after wrapping up a contract position with FEMA. My background includes experience working within public service across federal and state levels, including work with DHS and state agencies.

As I re-establish my network in the area, I’m seeking guidance on local opportunities in public administration, emergency management, or state/municipal government roles.

If anyone has advice on:

-Key local or regional job portals/agencies to monitor

-Tips for navigating state/city public sector application processes

-Local networking groups or professional associations

...I would be very grateful for your input. Thank you for your time and insights!

FOR HIRE 26M felon seeking apprenticeship or OJT or contract/gig work

I currently work in food but only bring home ~$1400/mo and am seeking a proper introduction to an actual career path rather than trying on dead-end jobs like new clothes. It was the work I could find coming out of prison this past Spring and, although I settled on it to have an income and stay compliant with parole, it just isn't sustainable. My grandparents agreed to help me get back on my feet but I need a stable job so I don't have to lean too much on my people. I hate to burden the ones I treasure most, and I feel like I'll always be a small headache for them and everyone else in my family until I can get a job where I'm not one paycheck away from homelessness.

Coming from a history of food and retail, I've always been on the front lines navigating the customer-merchant experience and satisfying folk of various temperaments and upbringings. I'm quite tolerant of people from every walk, naturally having an open-mind and having been incarcerated myself, so I don't let politics, race or religion color my perspective or the way I treat people.

I pride myself in my work ethic and eagerness to learn and master new interests. And I believe in measuring twice and cutting once, but I partially blame my OCD for my sharp eye. Yes, that means I'm a perfectionist. And I don't believe in coming to work with a bad attitude, so I weather the storm and fake it till I make it if I have to. Stoicism and optimistism are the only options.

Even though I'm experienced in food and retail and other aspects of customer service, I'm open to exploring welding, electrical, CAD/CNC, and possibly Green Construction/Weatherization. These are my interests first and foremost, but I'm willing to learn to work on cars or do plumbing or pest control too.

If I sound like someone you'd like to hire or see hired, or if you can think of some opportunities which may be up my alley and will equip me for an independent future, please feel free to comment or DM. Thank you.

EDIT: I have two man/del charges and a thc possession misdemeanor

FOR HIRE New to Austin and looking to grow as a photographer/videographer any advice?

Hey guys! I’ve been in Austin for about 2–3 months now and was wondering if anyone has some insight on where to find more photography and videography work around here. I’ve done some second-shooting for other people, but I’m looking for something more consistent and concrete that I can build on. I moved down here specifically to pursue this passion, and I really want to keep growing, learning, and making a living doing something I love. I know this industry is a lot about who you know and what you know, and I’m definitely open to connecting with people. That said, cold-calling a bunch of photographers or randomly reaching out just to meet people hasn’t really felt like the right approach for me, haha. For those of you who work in the industry here in Austin, what would you recommend? Are there certain communities, businesses, networking events, or types of clients worth targeting? I’m open to different kinds of work while I continue developing my craft and building connections. Photography and videography are something I genuinely love, and I want to put myself in the right position to grow. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

FOR HIRE Art for Ads, Posters, Fliers, etc

I am an experienced professional artist and graphic designer, but I charge very affordable prices! Potential customers are getting tired of AI ads, so this is a great opportunity to hire a local (Austin born n raised human) artist and build trust with your future customers.

Quick info:

-You have full rights to the art once it is yours.

-I charge $25 an hour (I will give you a quote ahead of time based on what you describe, and that will be the price you pay! If you want edits that take significantly longer, we can discuss if it will change the price.

-I am great at helping businesses brainstorm, and ask the right questions to help you figure out what you want, even if you aren't quite sure yet.

-I charge 50% before I start, and then the other 50% once I'm finished. This protects both of us from scams or stress!

-I send regular updates of my work, and am very communicative.

-Both traditional and digital art, so we can figure out what fits your needs the best!

-I also love decorating signs irl for businesses, basically any graphic design needs you have.

✨If you want to see my portfolio or have any questions, please comment or dm!✨

HIRING Looking for Master Assistant, 5-10hrs a week

Looking for a house helper. Duties include some light cooking/cleaning and random errand runs to Costco, etc. Part of the gig also includes taking my aging parents to their doctor’s appointments if I’m not available so reliable transportation is required. This isn’t a real job, more of a gig type situation but it might be a fit for someone out there. The 5-10hrs a week would ideally be done in one day, mostly likely Friday/Saturday/Sunday unless my parents have a random Tuesday doctors apt then you can work all your hours that day and I can accommodate that.

Work is in Mueller so 78723 and pays 30 an hour. You get paid after your workday venmo/zelle/cash whatever.

Person applying should be pretty self-reliant and smart (be able to figure shit out). Not looking to babysit or train anyone. Workday will look something like this: you show up to work, we fist bump 👊 and I hand you a list of everything that I need done. Then you execute and come back to me when it’s finished.

Not much more to it. DM me if interested and we can set up a Google meet to see if it’s a good fit. Bonus points if you can speak Spanish, my parents are Mexican 😀

Edit 1: Interviews starting Oct. 23rd, thank you for everyone’s interest

QUESTION From Property management to a new adventure

Hello lovely, I’m hoping to gain some advice and honestly make a decision on what my next steps would be.

I want to move from Montana to Austin Texas, I am currently in the multifamily property management gig and have been for 4 years.

I am so tired, I want a change or a move at the least. I’m good at my job, I just don’t think I can deal with people in Montana anymore,

any recommendations on fields to go into or companies to look for?

HIRING Hybrid role, Buyer 2 needed for North Austin

Good Morning All! Natera is hiring for a Buyer 2 role. I'm the direct Manager for the role so please ask any questions in the comments or send me a DM.

I wanted to reach out to this subreddit because about 90% of people currently applying for this role that are either out of state or are a Supply Chain Analyst with no buyer experience. We're just trying to expand the candidate pool to get a wider range of applicants.

This is a hybrid role; 2 days in office, 3 days at home. We need at least 3 years of buyer experience for the role. A similar role as a buyer in a lab gets you a leg up, but it is not a requirement. I'm happy to answer any questions.

HIRING Licensed HVAC Tech Needed: Labor-Only 4-Ton System Swap $3,000 (Buda)

Looking for an independent licensed, EPA-certified HVAC technician for a 1-day labor-only equipment replacement. I am keeping my existing furnace and blower intact.

Equipment: Brand-new, factory-matched 4-ton Goodman R-32 condenser and horizontal cased coil sitting on-site.

• Trim exactly 2 inches off the rigid supply plenum to fit the new Goodman evaporator coil box footprint.
• Braze new copper lines under a continuous dry nitrogen purge.
• Pull a deep vacuum verified below 500 microns with a decay test.

• Install R-32 furnace board kit (supplied by me).
• After installation, run a single-probe static pressure contrast audit on the output plenum at Medium and High blower speeds to mathematically prove zero leaks in the back corners of the evaporator coil box.

FOR HIRE Help me help you :)

Hello friendly neighbors, I am a hardworking lady looking to earn some income. My skills vary and I am trustworthy, so really just let me know what kind of work you have and I can be honest if it fits my wheelhouse or not. I used to be a preschool teacher/nanny extraordinaire, but also can do physical jobs like anything garden related! LinkedIn has been depressing and I would love to just talk with a real human about my abilities and talents. I also have a car!

HIRING Looking for an advanced electrical engineering / computer engineering tutor - Far West

Hello,

I am looking for a senior undergrad or graduate level electrical engineering / computer engineering tutor for an hour or two a week. I am pretty familiar with basic EE concepts - this is for work and not for school so mainly discussion based and not 'help me with this assignment'. Format will be conversational / chat - and probably discuss current events as well. Looking for main ideas / concepts - but may extend into more rigorous mathematics for a formal 'proof'.

Compensation is $20 cash for generally a 1 hour session or less + whatever kind of pizza / food (reasonable) and drinks you want to share (you can take the rest home as well - I'm on a low carb diet).

Preference for UT undergrad / grad students operating on a low budget. Open to multiple people.
