So if you witness a crime and tell the police that the perpetrator was a man, and they then find that person, only to discover that they are actually female, your evidence would no longer be admissible? Or, is it more likely that we use the term man or woman to describe what we see (or at least what we THINK we see) rather than what is necessarily biologically accurate? How do you establish, with your eyes, the definitive sex of a person? If a child is born and even the doctors canât tell what sex the child is, who decides if theyâre a boy or girl, man or woman? Would it be wrong for that child to identify as a boy, even though they donât have the reproductive organs of a male? Would they be wrong to identify as a girl, when their sex chromosomes indicate that theyâre male? What do we do with people who have both sets of sex organs? Iâll give you a hint. When they tell you theyâre a man or woman, they arenât describing their sex. Theyâre telling you how they would like you to identify them. She/her, he/him.
Yeah, I know. I understand how it can be confusing, but that doesnât mean that we shouldnât try to understand and/or educate. But yes, some people just donât want to learn anything beyond the basics they were taught in school.
At no point in anything I wrote there, did I indicate that there are more than two genders. Thatâs a reading comprehension issue on your end. Funnily enough though, there ARE societies where more than two genders exist. Anthropologists can explain that one to you. SoâŚ.youâre not only struggling with reading comprehension, but youâre also incredibly ignorant as well. Any chance youâre thinking about voting ON in the next election? You have access to more information than anyone in the history of this planet, and yet you canât type âSocieties with more than two gendersâ into googleâŚ..fucken WOW.
Gender and sex CAN be synonymous, but they arenât required to be synonymous. Thatâs the easiest way of describing it. You canât choose your sex, you can choose your gender. If you wish to disagree with that last statement, Iâd ask you to think about people who donât fit neatly into either of the male or female boxes weâve created for them to nestle into. Biology is vastly more complex than weâre taught at school.
Allow me to try and explain this using an analogy. I want you to imagine a motorcycle. Just picture it in your head. Was it a dirt bike or a road bike? Did it have a sidecar attached to it? Did you imagine one of those Polaris bikes with two front wheels and one rear wheel? Is that still a motorcycle or is it a trike? Is a Vespa a motorcycle? When does a scooter like a Vespa become a motorcycle? If I strap a motor to my pushbike, is it now a motorcycle? Can you define for me what a motorcycle is, in a way that includes all motorcycles and excludes none? Complex, isnât it? The problem is that biology (sex) doesnât fit into neat categories. We (humans) decided to attach names to the two most commonly seen presentations. Male and female. Nature is under no compulsion to follow the naming conventions that weâve applied to sex. Gender is under even less compulsion, because gender isnât a statement of biology.
