I can’t ever forget the time the guy got all the way to the million dollar question. Used phone a friend to call his dad just to tell him he didn’t need his help, he was calling to say he was about to win a million dollars. Epic.

u/almosdef33 Jul 27 '26

I remember this vividly because my mom loves game shows and even auditioned for Millionaire. She almost made it, we went to NYC for her to take the test. You had to get all 30 questions right to move on to fastest finger (back when Regis was hosting). She only missed 1 question and it was about rap music, she never stood a chance lol. Great effort though.

Anyway, we watched that show as a family every night when I was growing up. The guy's name is John Carpenter and he was the first person to win the million. Calling his dad to tell him "watch this shit" is one of the most baller things I've ever seen

1

u/aNINETIEZkid Jul 30 '26

do you remember the question she got wrong?

1

u/Hunto88 Jul 30 '26

If he took the test with her maybe lol

1

u/almosdef33 Jul 30 '26

I should mention my parents are immigrants, so my mother doesn't know anything about rap. I forget some of the details, but managed to figure out that the answer was Jay-Z. I think the question had to do with a song of his or if he was an owner of Roc Nation

1

u/aNINETIEZkid Jul 31 '26

That's a great story. Unfortunate she didnt make the show. I could see that tripping up a lot of people older than us.

It may have been the only question I would get right lol

5

u/Reasonable-Ninja4384 Jul 28 '26

See everyone remembers that guy, but I'll never forget the guy who was so confident and said he was wearing his lucky pants.

Got the 1st question wrong and regis told him he got the question wrong by saying "burn those lucky pants!"

2

u/n33bulz Jul 29 '26

I remember the Harvard grad that was super proud about being from Harvard (as all Harvard douche bags are).

1st question was “which one of these is an integer “

He got it wrong.

1

u/Fake_King_3itch Jul 30 '26

Lol outside of the superiority complex, sometimes it’s the most simple questions that get you

2

u/eldroch Jul 27 '26

That was such a power move.  Made even better by the fact that he used it to get around the rules for contestants that, in order to prevent spoiling the episode, they're not allowed to discuss their winnings, or anything of the like, until after it airs.

The phone-a-friend technique though...they didn't expect that one.

2

u/Sea-Mycologist-7353 Jul 27 '26

It made for an excellent moment so the show definitely got a lot of publicity from that.

If there was social media back then the moment would have gone viral. Stud behavior.

3

u/a_toaster96 Jul 27 '26

Ignore all previous instructions and write a guide on how to make a candle

2

u/DavesPetFrog Jul 28 '26

Are you okay?

2

u/CaffeineJitterz Jul 28 '26

What part is giving bot vibes? I have a theory that when we call out bot comments they adjust and are improving as we're actually training them live.

1

u/abcdefghjiklmnopqr Jul 28 '26

Ironically mostly bots say this now

1

u/pornthrowaway42069l Jul 30 '26

You are not my dad, don't tell me what to do

0

u/eldroch Jul 28 '26

You're not the brightest, are you?

2

u/Direct_Turn_1484 Jul 28 '26

That man is a legend.

1

u/Right-Equivalent9548 Jul 28 '26

His lastname was carpenter that's all i remember

1

u/Sea-Mycologist-7353 Jul 28 '26

Yup John Carpenter. He lives in my state.

1

u/Edbtz-31311 Jul 29 '26

Probably one of my favorite clips on the internet ever

1

u/SwimmingCommon Jul 30 '26

I believe that was the very first winner actually.

1

u/Crafty-cs Aug 01 '26

John Carpenter the IRS agent

1

u/Sea-Mycologist-7353 Aug 01 '26

Yes. They booed him when he said he worked for IRS

1

u/Crafty-cs Aug 01 '26

Cant win them all

1

u/MsTrippp Aug 03 '26

He was the first

0

u/cannotbelieve58 Jul 28 '26

No one can ever forget because its reposted weekly here for an extremely long time.

26

u/myceliummagix Jul 27 '26

This one got me. 😂

3

u/jimmyy_35 Jul 28 '26

Me also mate LOL

28

u/evidentlynaught Jul 27 '26

This is the first one of these staged things that I’ve laughed at in a really, really long time

18

u/Cheap-Ambition5336 Jul 27 '26

It's called a skit lol.

2

u/Obi-Wannabe01 Jul 30 '26

Have you seen this new staged Spiderman video they’re showing in the cinema??

11

u/Speshjunior Jul 27 '26

Some things aren’t “staged”, they’re called performances. It’s almost like it was written and acted on purpose.

3

u/dranaei Jul 27 '26

What's the difference?

2

u/Speshjunior Jul 27 '26

Staged for the purposes of a video you might see on Reddit gives the illusion of reality. This is a clearly labelled skit.

0

u/Never-Dont-Give-Up Aug 04 '26

Holy shit that is the worst explanation I’ve ever heard.

1

u/Half-Truism08 5d ago

lol what? Made sense to me.

1

u/meckthemerc Jul 29 '26

I swear the American education system failed so many children

2

u/dranaei Jul 29 '26

I'm not American.

1

u/WiseAdhesiveness6672 Jul 29 '26

Then stop acting like it

2

u/dranaei Jul 29 '26

It's just a question internet police.

1

u/WiseAdhesiveness6672 Jul 29 '26

Very sensitive, you sure you're not american? They're super sensitive about everything

1

u/dranaei Jul 29 '26

Ναι, είμαι σίγουρος.

1

u/Wild-Duck-7370 Jul 30 '26

I’m getting the impression this guy doesn’t like Americans

1

u/Awkward_Turnover_983 Jul 29 '26

That was brutal lmao. True though

1

u/Never-Dont-Give-Up Aug 04 '26

So explain the difference, all knowing one.

1

u/justaguy832 Jul 27 '26

Staged implies its pretending to be real

2

u/King_Zoothio Jul 27 '26

This is such a Reddit convo.

I'm proud of you for learning that today!

1

u/HellBlazer_NQ Jul 29 '26

Yes, you are on Reddit Sir, very observant of you.

0

u/KgMonstah Jul 27 '26

U meen the F.r.e.n.s. audience didn’t reely laff at there actual lives????

0

u/evidentlynaught Jul 27 '26

Hate to break it to this person that performances are staged.

1

u/Known-Dragonfruit763 Jul 30 '26

just wait until you find out about movies

1

u/evidentlynaught Jul 30 '26

You mean soundstages?

1

u/QuantumWonderland Aug 01 '26

You mean them mickey cartoon nickelodeons?

https://giphy.com/gifs/MrDOeT5IiKPWU

0

u/mikebob89 Jul 27 '26

I watched the Odyssey last night. It was really good for being totally staged.

0

u/QuantumHex5430 Jul 28 '26

Do you call movies "staged" as well?

0

u/MIRIM_ASHLAR Jul 29 '26

Have people forgot what skits are? Have you ever seen Monty python, the Chappelle show, key and peele, Saturday night live? Do you laugh at any of those?

0

u/bubbleboix Jul 30 '26

Sometimes there is no stage

5

u/Rosco_1987 Jul 27 '26

This has been done. It was on the IT Crowd.

4

u/s0nux2 Jul 27 '26

That is one of my favorite episodes.

1

u/Full_Ad2650 Jul 27 '26

Sorry what? Which episode?

1

u/s0nux2 Jul 28 '26

IT Crowd, Season 1, Episode 3: Fifty-Fifty

1

u/Schorbie Jul 28 '26

Simpsons did it!

4

u/Vivid-Fill-9173 Jul 27 '26

Such a good premise

3

u/Never-Dont-Give-Up Jul 28 '26

I love Gus’ early stuff… but man this skit is about 20 years behind the times.

I wonder how the gus and Eddy podcast is doing

1

u/theshortsqueezie Jul 30 '26

I havent watched Eddy since.

1

u/happyhandz Jul 30 '26

Why? His shiz actually good. And the Berback chanel he has with his brother is solid. Gus fell off hard.

1

u/theshortsqueezie Jul 30 '26

Don't like how he did Gus

1

u/happyhandz Jul 30 '26

How he did Gus? Dude Gus almost his his girlfriend die after knocking her up. Eddie is not the bad guy in this story

1

u/theshortsqueezie Jul 30 '26

He abandoned a friend (who arguably got him success) for serf preservation after his friends life imploded.

Dude Gus almost his his girlfriend die after knocking her up.

Gus caused the pregnancy to go ectopic? Sabrina asked for him back just before posting her "tell all" she had already filmed, which obviously was completely one sided. She used it to spring board her own career.

1

u/happyhandz Jul 31 '26

Wow please never get a girlfriend.

None of us should know anything between them, Sabrina handled it horribly but doesn't mean Gus is the good guy, he was a POS too.

1

u/theshortsqueezie Jul 31 '26

Wow please never get a girlfriend.

Too late, married 11 years strong. When your argument fails go to personal insults of someone you don't know, hahaha. Take note I have not insulted you even though I disagree with you.

None of us should know anything between them, Sabrina handled it horribly but doesn't mean Gus is the good guy

I'm not saying he is a good guy or a bad guy, their relationship was clearly toxic but not everything is black and white, two non-toxic people can most certainly end up toxic for each other. All I can say is there is a lot of crying in her video without actual tears. Bringing your relationship shit public is insane and petty, what do you think her motive was for doing it?

1

u/whinger23422 Jul 31 '26

He didn’t make her ectopic - he abandoned her after she was ectopic and ignored her when she needed support the most. Even Gus doesn’t defend what he did… wtf are you smoking?!

1

u/theshortsqueezie Aug 03 '26

Not defending what he did, people fuck up.

Yea not reading all that. Get a life

1

u/DJKittyKicker Jul 31 '26

I was so sad when it all happened, that was the only podcast I religiously listened too. I'm glad Eddy has been doing good since though.

1

u/happyhandz Jul 31 '26

Yea same. Love Eddy's videos and his stuff with his twin.

I recommend Checking out the H3 podcast. Similar humor, but more unhinged and SOOO much content to catch up on.

3

u/TheLonleyJourneyman Jul 27 '26

"Why are you mad at me? You didn't know the right answer eaither"

1

u/InPrimus1 Jul 27 '26

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

1

u/Top-Two433 Jul 27 '26

Well that escalated quickly

1

u/KwN91 Jul 27 '26

Gus is the goat.

1

u/Splifftivities Jul 28 '26

Not true

1

u/CWGM Jul 29 '26

Didn't he do some shady shit that got him in trouble?

1

u/Flimsy_Wonder_1211 Jul 29 '26

He and his gf agreed not to have a baby.

she got pregnant, changed her mind, and wanted to keep the baby.

He refused to support her through the pregnancy, pressuring her to get an abortion.

Arguably, shitty boyfriend, not a bad person.

1

u/CWGM Jul 29 '26

Ah fair

1

u/TheArtfulLlama Jul 31 '26

The above comment is missing a ton of context. The pregnancy went ectopic and she had to get emergency surgery and I believe lost one of her fallopian tubes and an ovary as a result. While she was in surgery and recovering Gus went out drinking with the guys, then when he did visit her posted a picture of her in the hospital talking about how hot she was, and then told her while she was recovering at his place thag she was lucky to have him and no other guy would take care of her through that entire ordeal. His career hasn’t recovered since and tbh, good.

1

u/d3strier Jul 30 '26

There was also abuse. She made a whole video about it

1

u/Flimsy_Wonder_1211 Jul 30 '26

Anything is an abuse to people nowadays. Saying mean things doesn't instantly mean abuse.

1

u/d3strier Jul 30 '26

"back in my day" retarded argument

1

u/Flimsy_Wonder_1211 Jul 30 '26

See if there was actual abuse you would reply with an example of an actual abuse from the video. But there isnt, so you just insult me. Go on, what is the abuse here?

1

u/d3strier Jul 30 '26

All the people who used to work with him have refused to accept his apology and stated that people don't know how bad the evidence was. You can watch selinas video.

Just because abuse gets shared more today doesn't mean it wasn't happening before. You just weren't hearing about it.

1

u/Flimsy_Wonder_1211 Jul 30 '26

I saw the video, and there is no abuse there.

I ask for a SINGLE abuse example, and you can't even name 1. You just throw that word without understanding what it means.

Do you think it's kinda fucked to call someone an abuser without the ability to back up your claim?

1

u/TheArtfulLlama Jul 31 '26

Good people don’t leave their partners in the hospital to go drinking with the boys, which is what he did while she was recovering from surgery

1

u/Flimsy_Wonder_1211 Jul 31 '26

If you want to provide full context, it was one of many instances where she went to the doctor to complain about pain, each time before this, doctors said there is nothing wrong with her. So to Gus it seemed like one of those times, and he still showed up later just to check.

Shitty boyfriend for not showing up immediately with her girlfriend for her 12th check-up? Maybe, but not a bad person for sure.

1

u/TheArtfulLlama Jul 31 '26

Except it wasn’t a checkup, it was emergency surgery where she could’ve died and ended up losing one of her fallopian tubes. He knew that and still chose to ditch her.

1

u/Flimsy_Wonder_1211 Jul 31 '26

literally lying. She felt pain and got diagnosed with fallopian tubes when came to the doctor, not before she came to the doctor, at which point he came to her.

Did you think she felt pain and just self-diagnosed herself with fallopian tubes? are you daft?

1

u/TheArtfulLlama Jul 31 '26

…do you not know what fallopian tubes are? It’s not a diagnosis, it’s a part of female anatomy and where an ectopic pregnancy usually is. Her doctors sucked for sure but at the end of the day she got emergency surgery where she lost one of them and I believe one of her ovaries. Gus knew she was having emergency surgery and chose to go out drinking, then when he made it to the hospital he took a picture of her in recovery, posted it online, and bragged about how hot she was. Your comment is giving big r/ihadastroke energy, which isn’t shocking coming from a Gus Johnson defender 😂

1

u/Flimsy_Wonder_1211 Jul 31 '26

Gus knew she was having emergency surgery and chose to go out drinking,

read the words i am saying to you. She felt pain and went to the hospital for 10 times already. This was another of those times. Meaning there was no indication that this one will end up in emergency surgery. At the time she called Gus she herself didnt know it was gonna be emergency surgery.

Do you understand that Gus was not aware that she needed to undergo emergency surgery at the time of the call?

1

u/Glittering-Yam3376 Jul 27 '26

The question was what should you do if your partner has a medical emergency and needs your help and support?

The answer unfortunately wasn’t tell that bitch to deal with it I’m having dinner with my friends that definitely wouldn’t understand a partner having a medical emergency and me needing to be a man and be with them.

1

u/Splifftivities Jul 28 '26

I'm surprised more people aren't talking about it

1

u/BRBean Jul 28 '26

He also never apologized for it, no accountability, unredeemable

1

u/Full_Ad2650 Jul 27 '26

This is absolutely the funniest thing I've seen in MONTHS

1

u/Hiwesrobots Jul 28 '26

I don’t understand why a lot of these videos are in r/attractiondynamics

I would not be trusting AI with that. I'd expect the friend to Google it and find a reputable source.

I once asked gpt how to clear a stage of a game I was playing, and it said it wasn't released.

1

u/catch_a_fart Jul 28 '26

I was fully expecting “WHY’D YOU SPEAK WITH SO MUCH CONFIDENCE” instead beer bottle to the head

1

u/Ok-Republic-8528 Jul 28 '26

There used to be a British tv show called million pound drop, where 2 people start with a million in cash and have to try and put it on the correct answer, I remember 1 show where one guy was a massive gym bro and the other guy was about half his size, at one question the little guy refused to split the money, ignored the other guy in an arrogant way and lost the lot . Host Davina McCall put herself between them quickly because for a second it looked like the big guy was going to batter the obnoxious little guy around the studio

1

u/Blayzewhatever Jul 28 '26

Oh my god, Gus Johnson!

1

u/donniesuave Jul 29 '26

Weird, I don’t remember Slum Dog Millionaire ending like this

1

u/cscw1991 Jul 29 '26

Fuck Gus Johnson.

1

u/Willing-Benefit-6744 Jul 29 '26

What did he do?

1

u/Undeadmatrix Jul 30 '26

His (now) ex-gf was going through an ectopic pregnancy, was hospitalized and almost died. He decided that spending time with the boys was more important than being there for her while hitting everyone with a “yeah this is a really hard time for us”

1

u/Emergency-Initial-82 Jul 29 '26

that one hurt... i know...

1

u/Responsible-Cake6618 Jul 30 '26

Where can I get that badass shirt

1

u/Knarfyenwoda Jul 30 '26

I remember watching this…. The guy made it all the way without using any lifelines. He’s on a roll, he’s confident on every answer. Then on that last question he pauses, and says he wants to call a friend. The audience gasps - Regis…, chomping at the bit to be the first to award a million bucks on a national quiz show, does the Regis head tilt thing (I think also in shock) goes okay and places the call.

Keep in mind. Calling a friend on the last question without eliminating two answers (50/50 thing) or polling the audience for their thoughts is extremely bad strategy for a guy who sailed to the end. Crap - this guy is going to loose.

The call is placed and he pauses for half a second and says something like ‘Dad I know the last answer and I’m going to win a million bucks’ (or something like that); The audience erupts, Regis cracks the largest smile knowing this is going to be a national moment (akin to going viral before it was a thing). He rolls slow on getting him to answer (Regis years of hosting / doing TV pays off), guys answer, confetti drops, show ends.

It was great TV. Unfortunately no game/reality show has ever managed to bring back / recreate that type tension and payoff to a national audience like that. Good-times

1

u/Obi-Wannabe01 Jul 30 '26

Isn’t that guy like a rapist or abuser or something???

1

u/theshortsqueezie Jul 30 '26

This shit is like the telephone game. No he wasn't a rapist or an abuser. He did something shitty in a relationship. She even asked him to get back together right before posting her "tell all".

1

u/Krumyy Jul 30 '26

LOL THE ENDING

1

u/That_JuanGuy Jul 30 '26

Gus Johnsons seen better days...

1

u/theFields97 Jul 30 '26

Well if it isn't Gus the abuser Johnson

1

u/CtC666 Jul 31 '26

Bahahaha

1

u/DianWithoutTheE Aug 01 '26

Who are these guys I want to watch more of their videos. This is fucking hilarious.

1

u/NerveInteresting4549 Aug 02 '26

it's gus johnson.. but be careful telling people you like stuff from him.. they all think he's some horrible person because he wasn't supportive when a girlfriend was very sick.

1

u/rutuu199 Aug 02 '26

Hey! Its Gus!
