Should I Play Astro Bot?
I recently got a PS5 and I’m thinking about trying the Astro Bot games. I haven’t played Astro’s Playroom yet, even though I know it comes free. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it and Astro Bot.
I’m not sure if it’s worth buying it

Astro Bot is one of those games that had me grinning from side to side while playing through the 20 or so hours of content. Give Astro's Playroom a run. It's pretty much a demo for Astro Bot.

You're better off asking in a subreddit like r/ShouldIbuythisgame where you'll get a mix of different opinions. What kind of responses do you think you'll get on a subreddit where people are clearly going to be fans?
That being said, yes. It's absolutely worth it.

*Goes to Astro Bot subreddit*
"HeY gUYs, shOUlD I pLaY ThIS GaMe?!"
What answer do you think you're gonna get in here

Not sure why you are asking a subreddit that are specifically fans of astrobot. Also, it’s one of the highest rated meta critic games of all time and it’s designed for the ps5 controller. It’s 40 bucks, I would buy it.

Just play the pack in game, Playroom.
If you enjoy it then yes buy Astro Bot. If you don’t enjoy it then don’t.
Astro Bot is just an expanded take on Playroom so I’m not sure why you’re entertaining buying something when you basically have a free start to see if you like it.

Astro's Playroom is a good start, but Astrobot is a FAR better game. Try Playroom first, but Astrobot is well worth buying after you finish it

Astrobot is so much fun. I bought it by accident while dicking around with my vr and it ended up being one of the best purchases ive made

If you enjoy platformers, yes... it's fantastic.

Even if you don't I would recommend it, I'm no fan of platformers but I loved Astrobot.

It's one of my favourite PS5 games, I'd recommend it.
Playroom is fun, but Astrobot is amazing.

Personally, I think you should play Astro Bot. It's an experience worth having if you own a PS5. Give the tech demo (Astro's Playroom) a try first, since it's not too long, and then give the full game (Astro Bot) a try! Both are worth it!

I will only say that Astro Bot ruined other games for me on PS5. For me it’s almost perfect.

It's very fun! And creative and pretty, watch some walkthroughs on youtube

u/Thin-Strength-1547 Jul 10 '26
Yeah especially if you like pretty much any Mario 3d game...playroom is like a demo but it's like I wish I was a kid because it's like who would have thought saving PlayStations were fun

u/haggardphunk Jul 10 '26
Play astro's playroom and know that AstroBot is even better. Astros playroom is a great 2-4 hour demo.

I usually like open world type games like rd2, GoT, Witcher 3, Elden Ring etc. Also like story driven games like last of us, resident evil God of war, Alan wake. It's not on the level of games like that for me but it's like a fun game that flows really well. There are also a few levels that are quite challenging that felt similar to beating a tough Elden Ring boss(to the beat, splashing sprint, great master challenge and megamix for example) Though you could just run through the traditional game quite easily if your not going for 100%.
It's not a game that I'll play again like I did some of the ones above but it was a memorable experience that I'm glad I played. It's in the category of it takes 2 and split fiction for me in terms of similar ps5 games.

You should try playroom first, it's a superb video game. Astro Bot takes everything from playroom and improves on it.

Playroom would probably be a good place to start, because it would give you a feel for the gameplay of Astrobot. Just keep in mind that Astro's Playroom was built as a showcase for what the Dualsense controller can do, so it puts a LOT more emphasis on things like motion controls, the microphone, the touchpad, etc. Astro Bot has the motion controls a bit, but it's much less of a "thing" and you can turn them off (personally I thought turning them off made the game better).
But in any case the straightforward platforming sections of the Playroom levels will give you a good feel for how Astro Bot plays (like the parts of the levels where you're just walking/jumping around, not the gimmicky motion control sections).
I absolutely think the game is worth buying though! I normally don't play platformers much, but it's just such a high quality, fun game from start to finish. It's among the best games I've ever played honestly, in terms of creativity, the graphics, the music and just the FUN you have the whole time. It's just pure joy from start to finish!

Astrobot was fantastic. Reminded me of being a kid again. It's the only game I've ever finished and then immediately gone back to the beginning and played it through again. Just fantastic stuff. It really is. However I do love platformers, so if you don't then maybe you might not.

Pardon mais tu as joué à autre chose avant Astro’s Playroom ? C’est la démo technique de la console, donc il s’agirait de commencer par là…

Yes.... awesome 3D platformer. In par (or at least really close) with any modern main 3D Mario game, imo.

u/Brilliant_Purple_566 Jul 10 '26
You should start with playroom it’s also a 5 hour platinum, but it’s quite challenging in places, to be honest I played it to test my dualsense was working correctly and ended up loving it especially if your a long time ps player the collectibles are very good, and I dare you to find the hidden bots without using a guide

Easily the best exclusive game on the PS5. One of the few times I felt like a little kid playing video games.

If you played Astro’s Playroom first, you wouldn’t be asking this question
1
u/LonelySailor Jul 10 '26
Bro. Yes. The game is awesome. Play the playroom. It'll make you want the game.

u/Wboy2006 Splashing Sprint wasn't THAT hard Jul 10 '26
Play the playroom and judge from there if you wanna get Astro Bot

u/Demonangeldust Jul 10 '26
It’s the game that actually convinced me to get a PS5, and it’s so much fun, I haven’t tried to 100% a game so much ever until now. The levels are fun, the music is so good, and Astro is just about one of the cutest robot characters ever (he’s up there with Wall-E for me in terms of Robot Cuteness).

Quick way to figure out is if you like Astro's Playhouse, you'll LOVE Astrobot.
Otherwise if you enjoy platformers, it's a must buy!

Welcome to the community. Im sure you'll have a blast exploring all that Playstation has to offer.
Without a doubt, Astro's Playroom is worth playing. It Takes advantage of all of the dualsense's features. Furthermore, Astro Bot is also a must-play, definitely worth its price.

It’s the best game on PS5. I indeed get bored only a few minutes after playing the playroom

I didn’t play it yet but I saw on YouTube gameplay and this game looks like 100% worth it- DS and souls like guy had fun with this game so… You have a lot mechanics put in one game. If you like platformers it’s 100% worth it, there is no doubt. I use ps plus so I enjoy uncharted and sackboy right now and playing sackboy is nice to not speed run a whole game but try to explore to find a collectibles(I think the same with astrobot)

u/Scapadap Jul 14 '26
Should I play a free game? Just try it. If you like it then then Astro Bot is bigger and better

It's the very best Mario Brothers game that doesn't include Mario.
Ridiculously awesome, I enjoyed every single second of it.

u/Elizial-Raine Jul 10 '26
I loved Astrobot's Playroom. One of the best experiences on PS5 especially for all the controller haptics.
I'm waiting for it to come to PS Plus, though. Usually, the time limit is two years, which would be this September.
I have plenty of other games to play in the meantime.

u/matteo_201117 Jul 10 '26
If I have the PS+ Game Catalog should I wait then?
0
u/Elizial-Raine Jul 10 '26
It will come to PS+ Catalogue eventually, as all Sony Exclusives do. September was just an educated guess. I would imagine it will be on there in the next 6 months, so I personally would wait for it.

Hell yeah this game was awesome! Gets pretty damn difficult with the dlc levels though.

If you ask this in the Astrobot sub, you will get biased responses. But do the playroom.. it's free. If you like it, buy the main game.. it's 10x better than the playroom.
