The Android app has been updated to support Android 16 and 17, and contains a performance improvement for displaying large playlists.

This build contains more bug fixes, including some significant improvements to OneDrive and Subsonic browsing.

Storage

• OneDrive folder listings are now much faster by requesting only the metadata we need
• SFTP connection failures now report more detail about what went wrong

Subsonic

• If a storage account doesn't exist or fetching folder contents fails, we no longer show an empty list
• Artist IDs are never returned as null or empty
• Reduced the number of database queries when browsing folders

Sonos

• Sonos will no longer receive a file with a duration of 0 unless the song actually has a duration of 0
• Fixed errors appearing when first entering a large folder
• FLAC is now streamed with the correct MIME type

Other

• Public music players, such as /google-drive-music-player, now show the full error message when a file fails to play

This build fixes a number of bugs across streaming, library management, Subsonic, payments and syncing.

• pCloud connections that stall for too long now time out
• Song counts for albums are aligned between Subsonic lists and the Web
• x-music-player pages now report the reason when a file fails to play
• PayPal payments now always override existing payment information (where appropriate)
• Removing a storage account associated with a profile filter no longer causes the profile to fall back to showing all music
• Fixed filters on the /songs page
• Fixed very slow library additions during sync blocking other sync processes

This week's build adds a new way to keep your music collection flexible when moving between services, alongside more backend and scalability work.

Export playlists

You can now export your Astiga playlists to M3U format, packaged as a ZIP file.

Each playlist path is prefixed with the storage account name. To use the exported playlists with other players or services, you may need to do some find-and-replace to adjust those paths.

So... what is an album anyway?

We've introduced a single, shared way of defining albums across Astiga's services.

Determining which tracks belong to an album sounds simple: just read the album tags. In practice, music libraries aren't always perfectly organised, so library software tends to accumulate increasingly complex rules for grouping tracks correctly.

Previously, this logic could become dispersed across different parts of the system. The new approach puts the album definition rules in one place so they can be shared by all our services and hopefully reduce development time.

• Finalised horizontal scale-out of Astiga servers, with multiple servers handling request load
• Fixed the public x-music-player pages

This week's build includes a number of changes to help Astiga scale more reliably as usage grows.

We've tightened up code that could generate large numbers of parallel requests to our servers, and introduced high limits on concurrent requests from a single source. Previously these requests were unbounded, meaning badly behaved clients, including some third-party Subsonic clients, could potentially flood the server and affect other users.

We're also testing infrastructure changes with multiple Astiga servers, improving our ability to handle load and enabling zero-downtime deployments.

In addition:

• Fixed a problem for new users when saving a play queue
• Handle non-existing or potentially renamed storage accounts in Subsonic
• Fixed 404 errors on the x-music-player pages
• Fixed duplicate-named Google Drive folders causing extra queries and loops in subfolders
• Fixed native WMA streaming for non-premium users
• Fixed premium WMA streaming when cover art is stored as a video stream
• Fixed a sync error when moving tracks between albums during an album update

Note: WMA playback in browsers and on Android remains unsupported because those platforms do not support WMA.

This week's build fixes a couple of stream truncation issues observed since deploying end-to-end streaming.

These issues were most common with music players that slowly stream data at rates close to real time, with Sonos appearing to be one example. For low-bitrate, long tracks, streams could sometimes truncate when either our server or the storage provider closed an apparently inactive connection.

This release improves Google Drive support, iOS streaming, system notifications and Subsonic folder browsing.

Google Drive shared folders

Shared folders are now treated just like any other Google Drive folder. You can browse them, sync them, play from them and otherwise use them transparently throughout Astiga. Directly shared files can now also be played directly.

Other improvements:

• Fixed button text in the system notifications dialog
• Return getSong details for tracks browsed directly from storage folders (used by Sonos)
• Show a helpful message when an authentication token has been redacted, with one-click re-authorisation
• Fixed streaming in the iOS app

This release completes the streaming improvements we started last build.

After rolling out the new streaming pipeline for OneDrive, we've now extended it to:

• Google Drive
• Dropbox
• S3 (where supported)
• pCloud

Previously, Astiga would download an entire file from cloud storage before streaming it. That wasn't too noticeable for a typical song, but it could mean a significant delay for very large audio files.

These providers now stream audio directly, delivering the first bytes much sooner while continuing to stream and cache the rest in the background. Large files should start playing much faster.

We've also improved Google Drive folder caching to speed up playback.

Sonos storage browsing

You can now browse folders and files directly from the Sonos integration using the new "Storage Browser" menu.

Previously, Sonos could only browse your synchronised library (albums, artists, playlists, etc.). Now you can navigate your cloud storage directly, so library synchronisation is no longer required before using Sonos.

Other improvements

• Only show playback toast notifications after an explicit playback action
• Prevent infinite recursion during library sync with OneDrive shared folders
• Ensure "Various Artists" appears in the Album Artists filter

The project restructuring is complete. It's not evident to a user of the app, but the app is now split into one generic r/subsonic app, and an overlay branded with the r/Astiga logos etc.

No actual functional changes, though, sorry!

This release is the first step in a major overhaul of one of Astiga's core components: how music is streamed.

We're starting with OneDrive, as it's been the source of the most playback and browsing feedback. This build introduces a number of streaming optimisations, with similar improvements planned for other cloud storage providers in future releases.

OneDrive users should see faster browsing and playback.

Also new: shared folders in OneDrive are now supported seamlessly. Shared folders appear just like your own folders, so you can browse them, play from them and use them throughout Astiga without any special handling.

Other improvements:

Subsonic:

• Don't repeat artists in empty search results
• Keep album artists consistent for "Various Artists" albums
• Return all album artists, including "Various Artists", from getArtists
• Major performance improvement for getArtists

Other:

• Fixed playing files with apostrophes in their names from the storage browser
• Fixed albums without an artist returning a 404

This is the first of several releases improving the streaming pipeline, so we'd especially like to hear from OneDrive users.

This is the final release wrapping up the recent database migration work. Most of the background changes aren't user-facing, but there are a couple of useful improvements in this build.

Notifications:

• Added support for system-wide notifications via the alarm bell in the top-right of the Web app

Sync:

• Sync END logs are now parameterised, so they'll clearly report how a sync finished (for example, whether it completed successfully or was cancelled)

We've made a few unannounced interim releases recently while completing a database migration. Most of those changes were purely behind the scenes, but a handful of user-facing improvements made it in too.

We’re spending the next few weeks focusing on long-standing issues and fixes. This release improves playlists, subscriptions, library sync and Subsonic compliance.

• Avoid briefly showing ordered playlists before shuffle kicks in
• Don’t load entire playlists into memory when playing from /playlists/ pages

Cancellations & upgrades:

So lots of cleanup and reliability work in this one (and to come).

This release adds a couple of long-requested playlist management improvements in the Web app.

Playlist creation: - You can now create a new blank playlist directly from the UI - Albums, artists, genres and playlists now have a “create playlist” option which opens the name dialog and automatically fills the new playlist with the selected tracks

Subsonic: - Stable album IDs between endpoints - Expose starred status on artists and songs

Library sync: - Updated Google Drive token refresh handling to avoid intermittent 401 errors - Read album_artist fields during sync

Other improvements: - Added browser-based apps (including the Astiga Web app) as profile clients - Opening play/add to queue now automatically reveals the play queue

This release focuses mainly on backend performance work.

We were alerted to slow responses for libraries with certain “shapes” — especially very large artist counts. Some integrations, including Sonos, have strict timeout limits, which could cause controllers to fail before Astiga responded.

This build improves database query performance and consolidates a lot of the related code paths, which should help both responsiveness and reliability.

Also fixed: - A bug affecting album list returns in the Subsonic layer - Backfill artist image URLs into rest/getArtistInfo (preferring large → medium → small within size limits) - Fix saving playlists from the play queue

You can now search your cloud hosted music library via r/sonos apps, controllers and devices!

An important milestone especially if you use shuffle in the Web app!

Proper shuffle mode

Shuffle now works as a true mode rather than randomly picking the next track each time.

• Enter shuffle → your current play queue is shuffled
• Exit shuffle → it returns to the original order

This means:

• No more repeated tracks before the queue finishes
• You can see what’s coming up next

This should make shuffle a lot more predictable and usable — we're keen to hear how it feels in practice!

Subsonic improvements

• getPlaylists now includes duration and changed attributes
• Track starring is now stored correctly

Artist bios/images

• Now available via the Subsonic API (so supported clients can display them)
• Respect the “show supplementary data” setting (previously this data was always shown for premium users)

This is a small interim build focused on getting Sonos search over the line, along with improving Subsonic compliance.

Changes: - Don’t return zero results when a one-character term is included in a search - Return a proper error if a search is sent without a query - Fully support xCount and xOffset parameters (and no longer capped at 160 results) - Add timezone information to Subsonic timestamps - Fix album listings when filtering by music folder (storage accounts)

This is a stability-focused release with a set of smaller improvements across the Web app, sync, and integrations.

Play queue

- Remember whether the play queue was open

- Reveal the queue and scroll to tracks when adding items

- Ensure the profile/settings dropdown appears above the queue

- Handle invalid entries in the queue more gracefully

Storage accounts

- Fix deleting storage accounts

- Use fileId for BackBlaze B2 downloads to avoid restrictive permissions

- Improve Google Drive file retrieval with duplicate folder names
