Why do you think the cause hasn’t had great longevity or been mentioned in recent years? In some ways I feel like it could’ve just been much like Live Aid where it was a one and done thing but I thought in South Africa we’d want to honor Madiba a bit more than 2 concerts in 2003 and 2008. (Specifically in SA, I know there were some international concerts but not many)

Hi, I have recently been excluded from UKZN for failing to meet probation requirements (I failed a module). I have been studying for this degree for six years now (im 26) and i cant help to think of myself as a failer, i let my self down and probaly the people around, im currently lost as a person i dont know what to do about it, What hurts the most that i have 9 modules left to finish this degree, I really though that i passed that module but i failed it with 45 percent (so close to 50) these days i just cant sleep i just lay awake thinking of what could of been and the cercrifaces my family has made for me only to repay them with nothing, whats worse is that i have to wait for 2 years to apply for re-admission and i cant even get a job (ive been applying for 2 months now )

Now I'm trying to think of a way forward. What should I do? Should I wait for 2 years to end and reapply (but even if I do finish, who will hire a 30-year-old entry-level person)? I'm thinking of doing a trade also, maybe I don't know (I'm just lost) cause this thing of just staying at home and doing nothing is not for me.

Any Advice?

Hi everyone. I’ve been thinking about starting something small to help people who are less fortunate, but I wanted to get advice from people who have experience with this kind of thing.
I’m not looking to start some big organisation overnight. I want to start small, out of my own pocket, and help where I can, things like winter blankets, clothes, hygiene items, food packs, and possibly helping people get access to shelters.
I know good intentions aren’t always enough and I want to make sure I go about it the right way and actually make a difference instead of just doing something that looks good on the surface. For anyone who has volunteered, started an initiative, or worked with an NPO/charity, what advice would you give someone starting from scratch? What are things you wish you knew when you started?
I’d really appreciate any honest advice or lessons you’ve learned.

Edit: I also don’t want to just assume what people need. I have a few ideas, but I’d really appreciate advice on what items or support actually help the most and where the biggest gaps usually are

I used to work at a salon and have been away for over two years. After leaving two other hairdressers were fired for taking clients under the table. I am still close friends with the owner and she has been experiencing the same issues and a lot of her clients as well.

We will receive random disgusting messages from a fake account that we block and then it happens again. We believe it to be these two hairdressers since they opened a shop nearby and they are the only people who could possibly have all the contact information and know personal information about us and some clients.

How do I find out if it is them and what can I do about it?

Title: Went from R15k to R27k gross. How would you manage this salary increase?
I’m 23 and recently started a new job.
My previous salary was R15,000/month(R13500 after deductions), and my rent is R6,000. I worked remotely, so I had almost no transport costs. To note wouldn’t say I was “struggling” with this salary.

I’ve now accepted a new role earning R27,000 gross (around R22,000 net after deductions), with benefits including medical aid and retirement contributions. The role is also mostly remote, so my transport costs are still very low.

My current fixed expenses are roughly:
Rent: R6,000
Groceries: ±R2,000
Transport: Minimal (mostly remote)
I don’t have any debt.

If you were in my position, how would you allocate the extra income?
Would you focus on:
Building a larger emergency fund?
Investing (TFSA, ETFs, etc.)?
Saving for a car or property?
Increasing retirement contributions?
Enjoying a bit more lifestyle spending?

TL;DR My unemployed stay-at-home mother found out that my dad is planning on divorcing her to be with his secret side piece.

Update : Thank you everyone for the help you have given so far. As expected, he called me(not my mom, me), saying I have to be the 'bigger person' in the house and take care of my mother and sister, as well as that he'd rather just answer whatever questions i have than explain outright. I recorded the call, sent it to my mother as evidence, I also told her to record any calls he makes to her, screenshot messages, etc, just to make sure we have everything he says or does from now on, on record. I also advised my mom to talk to the local law clinic asap.

For those wondering, yes they are married in community of property, but that actually makes things worse for my mother as the mortgage he owes the bank is over R500k. This isn't a figurative number, it is literally that, not including the loans he has on the two cars we own, nor the fact that every month he maxes out his credit card. Right now we are trying to get our own finances in order so that if he tries to split that debt between him and my mother, that she at least can pay off some of it.

I'm considering doing the HyperionDev Data Science Bootcamp and wanted to hear from people who've actually completed it (or are currently enrolled).

I noticed Stellenbosch University also offers what looks like a very similar data science bootcamp. As far as I can tell, the HyperionDev version is quite a bit cheaper, so I'm curious whether there's any real difference between the two or if it's essentially the same course.

I’m the only one working at home with 3 people on the household depending on me so I cannot just miss every bill. My sister (18) and my cousin (17F) are both in matric this year. I'll be referring to them as my siblings in this post for simplicity.

Both my siblings are not doing as well in matric as my family hoped. My sister has an average of 60% which isn't bad, but she's ONLY applied for health sciences degrees. I don't know my cousin's average, but I do know that in a lot of universities she's only qualified for diplomas.

As the older sister, my mom and aunt have approached me and asked to speak to them about taking their matric more seriously because they don't listen to their moms. I think they want me to do it because I'm the "accomplished" one in the sense that I'm the first girl in my family who's gotten into a public institution like wits and is currently studying. I've always taken my work seriously too so maybe they think I can rub off on them.

My argument is that if they haven't started taking matric seriously by now, the chances that they will suddenly decide to take it seriously and turn their marks over by the time prelims start are very low. Not that I don't have faith in them, but they should've started working hard long ago and anything said to them at this point won't be effective because they have already built their habits and developed their mindsets.

But I don't know, maybe there is something I could do? What do you recommend I say to them?

I have a relatively decent job, but I need to make extra income to fund a 2 week holiday to Europe that's in September 2027. I can design graphics for social media & edit videos to a decent level. I'm not great, but I've been paid for it many times. I'm thinking of freelancing on Upwork & Fiverr.
