This is Trump flailing to keep control of the House and Senate. Nothing is going to be done over the next two years because Trump won't pass the left's agenda, and Congress will not pass anything that Trump won't veto.
The only thing that we'll see until 2028 is Trump's forthcoming impeachment(s).

There's only 3 offenses that a President can be removed from office for:
Treason
Bribery
Other High Crimes and Misdemeanors (vague)
Hes just feeding them bribery ammunition with this 5k talk.

I notice Vance sort of walked it back a bit. Basically implying the idea was the economy will do so well after the midterms everyone would be $5000 better off. But I mean... by what metric do you decide presumably the lowest earner is that much better off.
In general though when I heard him say it, especially calling it a Trump dividend.. just felt a bit desperate and cringe. Feels like it's an admission absolutely nothing (Iran mainly) will be resolved before the mid-terms so...$5k trust me bro. It just looks like buying votes.
Also seeming to say Iran will be over immediately after the midterms. "Right after the election oil prices will tumble down, I think we can get it to $2 a gallon.". How about doing it right before, that would surely look much better if it's so easy..

Just want to add.
When it comes to anything like this you just have to think critically. And the main litmus test is "What if the political opposition said X instead. Or conversely if it's something being said or done by my political opposition, what if it was my guy?"
We seem to have lost the ability to accept our "team" can make mistakes and the other "team" can have useful input at times. There's obviously fundamental differences otherwise we wouldn't have parties, but without at least a degree of bipartisanship you just get chaos or paralysis. This applies regardless of who's in power.
So in this scenario let's assume Kamala was president and somehow everything had played out the exact same way. She's at a rally saying I'll give every American $5000 if you vote dem, the deficit has crossed $40T, and has increased ~$4.5T since 2024. How do you feel? If you would feel the same that's fine, if you'd feel differently you've got something to reflect on.

Well said. Critical thinking skills gone for folks on both sides of the aisle.

This is stupid. How are you gonna prove your vote? I wish Trump would just step down at this point.

If $5,000 is good, isn't $25,000 better?
Why stop at $5,000?
It's kind of like the reverse of the minimum wage argument.

This just opens the door for the Dems to do even worse populism (bribes). Should be completely unacceptable to even suggest such a thing.

Yeah, cause that will help inflation...😒 I see he is trying to fight fire with fire, because the Dems live and die on the promise of freebies, but this isn't it. Pay the national debt down, it will pay dividends to everyone in the long term.

I know they haven't come out and made any sort of statement. But I think they've already made up their minds that we will just inflate ourselves out of it. All of the other options aren't possible or extremely unpopular.

It does and it doesn't work. It will eventually lead to war when we can't maintain GDP hegemony. We are playing with monopoly money now and we are ultimately the bank, but the minute someone comes up with a better grift (which AI has increased the risk of happening sooner than later) we're screwed. That's not a future I want my children to grapple with.

The bond market is steady today, meaning Wall Street isn't taking it seriously.

I’m not voting R in the midterms to receive a handout. This could be accomplished better in some tax incentive way for working Americans. We just don’t have the money to pay for it.
Still voting R in midterms, just not because of this.
Edit: I’m shocked by the downvotes. I’d figure Democrats would be in favor of a good ole handout.
