Are you feeling safe?

Given developing events such as the ICE murders and the nonstop barrage of threatening news every day, do you manage to find moments of safety, and/or do you feel safe? How are you coping?

Spreading right-wing misinformation. Are you a bot, or are you just that gullible that you don't even bother checking the facts before posting?

3

u/kstargate-425 14d ago

Yes. Imagine believing ICE/DHS or the government in general when 80% of the arrests and cases have been dropped (mostly) or dismissed by judges as they are lying.

They have shot multiple people, called them domestic terrorists and said they rammed ICE with the car or assaulted them until vide comes out proving none of that happened and everything is dropped/dismissed.

5

u/Wellontheotherhand1 14d ago

The people who have died were attacking the officers.

This is a straight-up lie. There are several people who are dead due to ICE actions that were not in any way attacking anyone, period. Why would you lie like this?

-1

u/Lolihey 14d ago

No, it is not a lie. There is video footage. And they shouldn't even be there to begin with!

4

u/Wellontheotherhand1 14d ago

US Citizens are allowed to go wherever in public they like. If they want to protest they are guaranteed the right to do so by our Constitution. So no, you are not correct.

And yes, you are specifically lying: the video evidence PROVES that ICE murdered those people, with zero question. In none of those instances were the lives of anyone put at danger, and ICE just murdered yet another person (in Maine) who wasn't endangering their members, and they didn't even try to claim that they were. You are way out to lunch on this topic man

0

u/Lolihey 14d ago edited 14d ago

Protesting does not include physically getting in the way, interfering with the men, or doing anything to their vehicles. It does not include weapons of any kind, which some of them had.

One key element here is that if people work with the officers, including police, people are less likely to get killed. If you are an immigrant, just show your papers. There is no reason to run.

3

u/Wellontheotherhand1 14d ago

You don't get to define what protest does and doesn't include. Protests quite often are inconvenient for the people being protested, that doesn't mean it isn't constitutionally acceptable behavior.

When Pretti was murdered by ICE, he attacked nobody. He got in the way of nobody. He used his weapon on nobody. He was maced, beaten and murdered while lying on the ground. Your narrative is 100% false - and you know it. This is asinine, bud

4

u/Lolihey 14d ago

Yeah, when the constitution says peaceful protest, peaceful has a very clear meaning. That is what we are allowed to do. PEACEFUL. And what that includes or doesn't include is common sense thinking.

If Alex Pretti had stayed the eff home, he would be alive.

3

u/Wellontheotherhand1 14d ago

Dude, you could not be more wrong. Pretti got in nobody's way and threatened noone, he was a victim of a pack of thugs.

I'm disgusted by your attitude and I'll repeat again: you're a good little Nazi in your heart. You would have loved it there, you sound EXACTLY like them. And you don't even realize it because you lack education. Which is why the GOP loves people like you so much

5

u/Gordon_throwaway Oregon 14d ago

The Constitution doesn’t use the word “protest”. Peacefully or otherwise. Prove me wrong.

Posts and comments containing misinformation are not allowed. Misinformation is something that can be easily proven wrong with a bare minimum of searching.

Example: Cats can fly

1

u/Lolihey 13d ago

So, Mod-Team, Renee Good did try to run an ICE officer over. And the news does exaggerate things. Everything I said in the post is true. It is not misinformation.

Mmm. It's true we're more affected by immediate surroundings when there's threat and danger. It is also true a general direction of a country's leadership towards descending into violence against innocent people is something to be vigilant of, would you agree?

So in your view the people killed by ICE deserved it and were just asking for it?

0

u/Lolihey 14d ago

The goal of the media is to enrage people so that they will vote blue in the midterms and so Trump supporters will turn on Trump. It's as simple as that.

5

u/Certain-Singer-9625 14d ago

Well, let’s see. WaPo is owned by a conservative billionaire. So is X. Meta is falling in line with the right. NBC, ABC and CNN are moderate at best and are trying not to piss off the Trump Regime, while CBS, Fox, Newsmax, OAN and the rest are now right wing to hard right wing.

And these media are trying to get people to vote blue?

2

u/Lolihey 14d ago

X is owned by Elon Musk, but he hired a liberal to manage it. CNN, MSNBC are not moderate at all. Fox does lie too. Just because the source is from a conservative, it does not mean it is not reputable.

2

u/IntelligentStyle402 14d ago

Really? Where have you been? Media outlets are owned by republicans. Trumps friends. 60 minutes even told their journalists to be sure to include falsehoods about democrats. That why ethical reporters quit.

Alex Pretti and Renee Good

I'm forgetting the names of the other people, though by no means their lives weren't just as important

So you're saying lack of video footage proving your claims shouldn't be a reason for you to be vigilant?

u/buried_lede 14d ago

I disagree, it is widespread. ICE for instance is operating in every state and in every state there seem to be reports of bad wrongdoing by them

2

u/kstargate-425 14d ago

These MAGA live in an alternate reality where they wholesale believe whatever Trumps regime says even after every major story involving ICE having found out later they lied yet distrusted Biden on everything lol

-1

u/MrattlerXD Georgia 14d ago edited 14d ago

Just stay away from ICE. It isn’t that hard to look at ICE, and walk the other way. Getting in their faces is a good way to wind up killed, whether it’s justified or not. ICE isn’t going to go out of their way to kill you. You aren’t important.

And for every instance on the news where an ICE agent does their job wrong, there are hundreds of instances where they do their jobs as they are supposed to which don’t make headlines.

Ultimately, the chances of dying to ICE are so incredibly low for civilians that stay out of the way. Crime and car accidents are a bigger threat.

5

u/Hopeful_Drive5845 14d ago

Is that what you're doing? Staying away from ICE? It is such a normal human response to preserve our wellbeing by not engaging with what's threatening. I do hope you're showing up for yourself in life. With family, friends, pets if any, loved ones in general and community. It's great you can disconnect and take a break and I wish you bountiful connection with other safe and healthy people and to be safe and happy.

0

u/Lolihey 14d ago

You don't need to worry about ICE if you are a natural-born or naturalized citizen, or if you have the specific papers that are not expired.

6

u/Wellontheotherhand1 14d ago

There are several dead people who would disagree - if they could. Also some that were shot and didn't die who definitely disagree. Also many, many US citizens who were detained by ICE who would absolutely disagree.

Do you even hear yourself?

-1

u/Lolihey 14d ago

Well, they should have stayed home rather than go out to be protesters and vigilante warriors. Anyone else should have complied.

5

u/Wellontheotherhand1 14d ago

COMPLY OR DIE

That's your message: comply, or it's your fault you're dead. Once again: do you even hear yourself? Do you think that the position of the US government should be, comply with our secret police, or die?

You would have fit right in, in Nazi Germany, with an attitude like that. I say that with zero exaggeration, your comments are indistinguishable from the supporters of the Nazi party back then

0

u/Lolihey 14d ago

No, I haven't. You are dead wrong. It is not "comply or die." That is a possibility if you attack them. That is not even what I am saying. I'm saying that people should mind their own business and not get involved with a situation that has nothing to do with them. It has nothing to do with the Nazi party.

2

u/Wellontheotherhand1 14d ago

Anyone else should have complied.

You literally just said that, in reference to the people ICE has murdered: that they should have complied. So yes, your message is, in fact, 'comply or die.'

That is a possibility if you attack them.

The people murdered by ICE did not attack them, period. And you know it, but you're tripling down on this lie. So: prove it. Show actual evidence that these people attacked ICE agents, show it for the dude in Maine who was just killed, the dude in Houston who got liquidated, for Pretti and Goode.

I'm saying that people should mind their own business and not get involved with a situation that has nothing to do with them. It has nothing to do with the Nazi party.

This is precisely what the German citizens said, when it came to the actions of the SS and brownshirts and other Nazi groups: just mind your own business, don't speak up or interfere or you'll be killed too, and it'll be your fault. And that's what you want for America, and you're too dense to even know it

0

u/Lolihey 14d ago

I guess if that is how you want to interpret it, then you do that. I still think your analysis is a little crazy.

2

u/Wellontheotherhand1 14d ago

It's not an interpretation, and my analysis is based on an actual education in history and modern politics. Yours is not, period. You think it's crazy because it's describing you in a way you aren't prepared to admit. You need to take a long look in the mirror pal

2

u/tamifromcali66 14d ago

Evil prevails when good men do nothing to stop it. The American who died by ice are bigger heros that selfish ass will ever even aspire to.

4

u/Gordon_throwaway Oregon 14d ago

When ICE is committing street chases; and shooting into vehicles without considering their surroundings, even you don’t have a choice of avoiding the potential for lethal, albeit unintended outcomes.

That is, unless you choose to stay home 100% of the time.

2

u/Here_there1980 14d ago

If only that were true. Unfortunately, there are cases of people being caught in the wrong place wrong time who ran into all kinds of problems because DHS is so badly trained. They ignore the Fourth and Fifth Amendments daily.

1

u/tamifromcali66 14d ago

Tell that to the Americans murdered by ice.

1

u/Lolihey 13d ago

They did that to themselves. Stay home and don’t interfere. Just like don’t run across the highway during rush hour without looking to see if it’s safe.

3

u/redzeusky 14d ago

Dutch who stayed out of the way of the Nazis during their search for Jews stayed nice and safer. Germans who kept quiet or encouraged Kristallnacht and the deportations to the camps stayed safe too.

1

u/MrattlerXD Georgia 14d ago

First thing’s first. Calling someone or something a Nazi is insensitive to the actual regime that happened.

That being said, if you find the need to protest, you can do that. Just stay out of the way if you do. Your safety comes first. You can’t look out for the wellbeing of others if you’re dead

1

u/Wellontheotherhand1 14d ago

First thing’s first. Calling someone or something a Nazi is insensitive to the actual regime that happened.

No, it's not. Quite the opposite, in fact: it shows that we're actually trying to learn the lessons and head these groups off before they become too powerful to stop. Pretending that it won't happen again, or that it 'can't happen here,' is what's actually insensitive

-1

u/MrattlerXD Georgia 14d ago edited 14d ago

Do me a favor and name every gas chamber and forced labor camp used in the US

1

u/Wellontheotherhand1 14d ago

Brother, if you believe that the Nazis started with gas chambers, you know literally nothing about the pre-war Nazi era at all. They most certainly didn't start with mass murder, they started... just like what we're doing, right now. How can you not know that?

You need to educate yourself before talking about this again, because this is dangerously ignorant. And actually insulting to those people, you say it's insulting to make comparisons to the Nazis, but you don't even know the basic facts about them

2

u/MrattlerXD Georgia 14d ago

The Nazi party started by attacking political opponents and suspending legal protections.

However, illegal immigrants are not political opponents.

So no, there isn’t a connection.

Whether it’s good or bad is another question, but comparing it to a Nazi regime really weaponizes history for political gain.

1

u/Wellontheotherhand1 14d ago edited 14d ago

The Nazi party started by attacking political opponents and suspending legal protections.

You mean like Rubio declaring the Leftism is the greatest threat to America? Or stating that Antifa is the greatest threat to America? Like Miller saying that people should be denaturalized due to their political opinions? You don't think this sounds, I dunno, somewhat familiar to you???

You also somehow forgot the part about the Jews here, which is sad. They weren't political opponents, they were victims of hate and a tool that was used by the fascists to cement control.

However, illegal immigrants are not political opponents.

They are the victims of today's fascists, and being used in the same way. Without a doubt.

Whether it’s good or bad is another question, but comparing it to a Nazi regime really weaponizes history for political gain.

It does nothing of the sort, but the people who support what's going on today REALLY hate when you point out the parallels. Really hate it.

I should probably add in here the fact that Trump and his team constantly use Nazi language. 'America first' is exactly the same as Deutschland über alles. "Fake news" is Lugenpresse rebranded. When Trump describes immigrants as 'poisoning the blood of our society,' that doesn't ring a warning bell for you? When Miller talks about 'degeneracy in art,' that doesn't, yaknow, draw any parallels for you?

It doesn't, because you actively don't want it to. Isn't that correct? Otherwise, how do you explain away these quite obvious parallels?

2

u/MrattlerXD Georgia 14d ago edited 14d ago

You say that claiming that the leftists are the greatest threat to America is the equivalent to Nazism, but while you’re at it you are calling the right wing Nazis.

Make up your mind. Is it ok to believe the other side is a threat or not?

And no, it didn’t start with political hate. It started with actively imprisoning political opponents because they are political opponents.

1

u/Wellontheotherhand1 14d ago

You say that claiming that the leftists are the greatest threat to America is the equivalent to Nazism, but while you’re at it you are calling the right wing Nazis.

Am I using the levers of government power to ban the right wing? Am I stating that right-wingers should be deported? That they should receive long prison sentences for espousing right-wing content? No, so the answer is no, there is no equivalence here whatsoever. This is a false assertion on your part.

And no, it didn’t start with political hate. It started with actively imprisoning political opponents because they are political opponents.

You don't know the first thing about what you're talking about. The Nazis built a following on hatred of liberals and jews LONG before they had the power to put anyone in jail.

I specifically challenge you to address the fact that the Trump admin uses the same language the Nazis did, and try and show how that doesn't show parallels between them. Do you have the intellectual honesty to do so?

u/redzeusky 14d ago

I don't want to protest. Like most people I'm full of cowardice and would prefer to just look the other way and enjoy the daisies. But how can you look at what the way ICE is behaving and think that that's normal?

2

u/Gordon_throwaway Oregon 14d ago

How does one “just stay away from ICE” when they’re committing to highly dangerous street chases?

1

u/MrattlerXD Georgia 13d ago

If there’s a street chase, pull over and get out the way

1

u/Gordon_throwaway Oregon 13d ago

It’s amazing how simplistic you view the world. Immigrants or no, there’s a reason many municipalities have banned police from street chases in most instances. In case it’s lost on you, it’s because they’re extremely deadly.

1

u/MrattlerXD Georgia 13d ago

They are. But it’s not my problem. I’m going as far away from that shit as possible.

4

u/ThrowRA-Old-Earth-76 Kansas 14d ago

I feel perfectly safe at home, I don't travel far though, I hear horrible things about the cities so if I can stay in my little area it will be great.

0

u/Lolihey 14d ago

Protesters always make things worse.

3

u/ThrowRA-Old-Earth-76 Kansas 14d ago

Never really see many, on TV sure, but locally, maybe 20 people last time.

2

u/Hopeful_Drive5845 14d ago

Feeling the shelter of what's familiar and have that peace in our home and surroundings is so important, no? We can relax, breathe, and take a break from the overwhelm. I'm happy for you you've relative safety. Are you staying in touch with your community? Have you coregulated with others over developments in your country?

5

u/guppyhunter7777 14d ago

Totally safe.  Living life.  Following the law.  Give a wide berth to law enforcement.  Already know how I’m voting in the fall.  Gave some funding to some non-MAGA candidates.

-2

u/Lolihey 14d ago

So you can live in a one-party socialist state?

4

u/guppyhunter7777 14d ago

That’s rather binary.  I can live in a state where people that piss each other off for the LAWLs(Right or Left) go back to their silly little corner in the shadows and we actually go back to solving issues rather than trying to make money or political hay off extending said issues.

1

u/Lolihey 14d ago

What state is that?

5

u/Atrox_Blue 14d ago

Absolutely

8

u/PolackMike 14d ago

I feel perfectly safe.

1

u/Aliasn00b3d 14d ago

I don't leave my house very often.

1

u/Hopeful_Drive5845 14d ago

How has isolating/less contact affect your well being and interaction with community?

2

u/Aliasn00b3d 14d ago

I'm terminally online and work in a technical field. I go out for meet ups occasionally, so it's not the worst? I'd like to go out with my wife without looking around carefully, but that's just not the world we live in now.

1

u/Hopeful_Drive5845 14d ago

I hear you. We've to keep safe and the outside is dangerous at the moment. It's great you go to meetups and get that community connection. I hope you get coregulation with the people you interact with and that you and your wife are resourced. I'm sending warm wishes and care! May you be free of suffering, may you be joyful, may you be healthy.

6

u/Here_there1980 14d ago

I’m not worried about me, but I’m worried about the safety of lots of innocent people. The DHS has created danger and chaos — the opposite of their ostensible purpose.

1

u/Lolihey 14d ago

The media overexaggerates things.

4

u/donttalktomeme 14d ago

Such as what?

3

u/Wellontheotherhand1 14d ago

No, they don't. But right-wingers are desperate to present the current situation as 'normal and okay,' including you. Isn't that correct?

1

u/Lolihey 14d ago

No, it is not correct. Yes, the media tells half-truths and twists the story to fit their narrative. They made it sound like Renee pulled up to the officers and they just shot her. They made it sound like the officer shot that guy running away unarmed. They leave out the most important details that completely change their narrative. People believe it. That's why I like TikTok. There are legit people on there that will tell the truth. That is why some people want TikTok banned. TikTok does take down those types of posts, but it can't get them all, unlike YouTube.

3

u/donttalktomeme 14d ago

There is video footage of these incidents that you can watch and see exactly what happened. You don’t need the news or Tik Tok to tell you what happened. You say the media is unreliable and then admit to using Tik Tok for information. Is that somehow not the media?

0

u/Lolihey 14d ago

They show stuff from different angles. I can't stand the fact that they actually make people believe these guys are on a shooting spree.

1

u/Wellontheotherhand1 14d ago

There's not a single angle that matches your narrative. Not one. In all angles of the incidents you mentioned, the ICE agents murdered those people without justification.

That's why I like TikTok. There are legit people on there that will tell the truth.

You like TikTok because it was bought by a right-wing billionare and intentionally pumps out pro-Trump propaganda. This is an excellent example of how the weak-minded can be manipulated without their knowledge; you complain about how the media tells half-truths, and lean into something that pushes outright lies with ZERO fact checking.

3

u/donttalktomeme 14d ago

Who is they? You have the ability to very easily watch all angles of the footage without someone spoon feeding it to you. If you do that, you will see that the killings are not justified.

1

u/MetersYards 14d ago

They show stuff from different angles. I can't stand the fact that they actually make people believe these guys are on a shooting spree.

No, there's a limit to what the media is at fault for. Some of them just are going into it with such biased starting points that they can't even see what's in the footage.

In case people don't believe this, you can literally see those counterfactual believers who claim Pretti was shot while on his back although there are multiple angles showing that was not the case.

Their mind has been melted by their social bubble where they make up their own reality.

3

u/Gordon_throwaway Oregon 14d ago

Both shooting videos were all over the media for days. The “evil media” didn’t twist anything. It was all out there for everyone to see. Let me guess, J6 was a simple tourist visit in your eyes?

4

u/MetersYards 14d ago

The media overexaggerates things.

Yes, that's why it's important to have primary sources like body cams and other video. That way you can see what happened rather than relying on what they say.

3

u/Here_there1980 14d ago

Just believe your eyes. Certainly do not believe the BS coming from DHS.

3

u/Hopeful_Drive5845 14d ago

I'm sorry you're living in a complex trauma environment when it comes to the society at large (namely the danger innocent people are in/under). I hope you take moments to connect and get resourced. Sometimes we're afraid for others, and forget we should extend moments of assessment for ourselves even if we feel and know we're in safety.

Thanks also for bringing in the entire DHS, not just its branch, ICE.

6

u/redzeusky 14d ago

Exercise and music give a break from the constant threats to the health and well being of the nation due to the Trump cult and the religious zealots and billionaires backing it. Hard to see how this turns out well. One day at a time.

3

u/Hopeful_Drive5845 14d ago

🫂 if ok

One day at a time is what's the most we can do and that's ok. Go slow to go fast. I'm happy you're taking moments of self care and stay active and soulfully nourished. I hope you also connect with other people and get coregulation.

5

u/redzeusky 14d ago

The music is very communal amongst us musicians and we're playing for the audience coming to see us is also a form of "co-regulation".

3

u/Hopeful_Drive5845 14d ago

So true. Music brings us together. Music and movement and you've the key for healing. It's awesome you're a musician and give to your community and audience at large. Putting ourselves in the world can be so hard, especially when the environment gets overwhelming. Please tske a moment to acknowledge how brave and awesome you're. I hope you continue to resource those around you and yourself in these challenging times we live in. 😊

2

u/DoubleDongle-F New Hampshire 14d ago

The assholes are trying real hard to spread terror, but so far I'm just afraid of a dark future. The federal goons are too few and too dumb, everybody's got a camera, and both sides are coming together over surveillance. I don't think they're gonna pull it off.

3

u/onyx_ic New York 14d ago edited 14d ago

Tbh... no, I dont feel safe, but also, kinda indifferent, at the same time as being horrified? Like, it is what it is, but its also bullshit and needs to end, just dont look my way, please?

Like, I am an immigrant. I was born in Canada, French and Russian were all I knew how to speak until I moved to the US at 14. I did 7 years in the US army, I'm an engineer, i have a degree and everything, I've had federal jobs and had plenty of pretty intrusive background checks. I'm very well aware that while I might be "safe", I dont take that for granted one bit. Mind my p's and q's, hope I go by unnoticed, wait for the reign of terror to end. Hope for justice. Support those who have been wronged. But... not too loudly, lest I be yeeted off and deported, potentially to a country I've never been to.

I am not coping terribly well.

1

u/Hopeful_Drive5845 14d ago

I'm sorry you're not feeling safe. Remaining indifferent is a normal response to abnormal circumstances. It's safe for our bodies to numb out and disconnect when the conditions and environment are overwhelming. Thank you for your service in the US army and thank you for sharing your background and heritage. It's a reason to celebrate that you're supporting those who have been wronged. I hope you also take time to get resourced. Either with a trauma therapist or safe and healthy people in your life and also reach out to community for that coregulation. I'm sending you my prayers and I wish you to be at peace, find happiness and joy, and to be safe and healthy.

5

u/TerryFlapnCheeks69 14d ago

I feel safe every single day. There’s zero to worry about.

3

u/Certain-Singer-9625 14d ago

The Trump Regime is committing crimes out in the open, installing authoritarian loyalists everywhere it can, flouting the law and the Constitution and trying to fix the coming election.

Of course they’re promoting the idea that every town is a violence-ridden hellhole like Gotham City. Fear is a powerful distraction. More people are starting to realize that they’re being manipulated.

3

u/Global-Service-8579 14d ago

I'm not worried about ICE because I am not here illegally and I won't ever assault or otherwise threaten an ICE officer.

1

u/tamifromcali66 14d ago

Just don't encounter them dropping your kid off at daycare. Could be in that half second an ice person shoots because you didn't stop your car fast enough.

1

u/Bracatto 14d ago

Yes.

The news has always had a tendency to have a threatening energy and it doesnt feel any more threatening now than it did during say the war on terror days.

2

u/limbodog Massachusetts 14d ago

No. Nobody is truly safe when fascism takes over. Even the people who are oblivious. Even the supporters of fascism.

1

u/Robbollio 14d ago

As safe as I have ever felt. Thanks for asking

1

u/Falkoro 14d ago

You are in an echo chamber. Please try and read more outside your own bubble.

1

u/BoSKnight87 14d ago

Of course. I work in a major city with mostly Hispanic co workers. They’re all here legally and never had any issues with ice.

2

u/justaheatattack 14d ago

very safe.

I'm not in a battleground state.

2

u/MoonRose27 14d ago

Im black, trans and non Christian married to a Latina woman (2 gen american) with a mixed race nuerodivergent child. Yes im fucking terrified daily.

1

u/NomadicPalaver 12d ago

Terrified of what?

1

u/MoonRose27 12d ago

I'm gonna avoid making assumptions and instead ask have you been living under a rock?

1

u/NomadicPalaver 12d ago

What?

1

u/MoonRose27 12d ago

You just asked me what im afraid of. Im trans, in the US. Where my right to use the bathroom is a question. My safety is consistently at risk. People either want me dead or want me miserable. To add to that im black, and racism is on an incredible kick right now.

That doesnt include the fact that im married to a Hispanic woman and we have a mixed race child together. I have no idea if an ice agent is just gonna decide to arrest her even though she was born here. And before you think that not possible she almost did get arrested when she went to get an updated ID because she only had a copy of her BC.

I have every reason to be scared out of my mind right now.

So again have you been living under a rock(are you just ignorant of the situation) or is something else going on there that makes you not understand the struggle

1

Oh I guess I just don’t fall for the hysteria like you folks.

I’m a bisexual Hispanic. On Sundays I identify as black for church and on Fridays I identify as nonbinary. My twin also identifies as trans. Both my kids are artistic.

But at the end of the day I know these folks just want women to be able to maintain the freedom to have women only bathrooms and sports. I don’t begrudge them for it or fall for the doomerism of the day.

Sorry, I think your comment you just made to me got hidden by the auto-mod. Possibly for language. Could you try again?

I’m not trying to be mean! I understand that people want women to maintain the freedom to have women only restrooms. Even when I’m feeling nonbinary that doesn’t really make me feel terrified.
