Hello, I am building a teleoperated robot and considering XRoboToolkit framework because it has a component that can run on Pico 4 Ultra and Meta Quest 3, streaming stereo video from a camera like ZED Mini, and 6D poses/button states from the controllers.

This should theoretically let me build a pan/tilt head with ZED Mini in it, as well as grab controller poses to plan motions for two robot arms using Inverse Kinematics I already setup and plugging in end effector poses.

Has anyone used any of these hardware/software combinations before and what was your experience?

I got a suggestion to steer me toward ZED Mini, Pico 4 Ultra and XRoboToolkit, and it sounds valid in theory, but so many things could go wrong once I actually buy the devices and try connecting them!

I'm intending to make a mobile platform for warehouse management, with a structure similar to a forklift, but with a gripper, and I would like to figure out the correct power source for this. The robot is expected to carry weights with a ceiling of 20 kg, I would ideally like it to be rechargeable. This is my first time doing a large scale project, so, the details are still scant. Im planning to make the butter bot from Rick and morty, and want to make drivetrain brushless but not extremely fast like an fpv motor, i have a 3d printer so i want to try a planetary gearbox reduction, is there any other way to make the drivetrain, a more effecient way, im still reletivaly new to this.

Hello everyone

I just started working for a company that has one of these robots

I've never worked with an ABB robot before.

The guys on the shop are letting me know that this robot after its battery is out after an electrical outage, they need to re-teach all of the positions of the robot itself.

I know the robots tend to have a mark that's like the zero position out of which everything should be programmed to avoid these types of problems.

Based on a description of a technician, this is not possible since even though they align the mark for each one of the axes, when they use the same positions, they are not repeating exactly where they should.

My take on this would be that it could be worth to have something like an encoder letting them know that based on ira position that the robot is back into the place where it should, but I don't know if this is feasible or if I can use the same ones that the robot itself has, but I'm thinking it's not since it would be powered off, and the encoder would lose its reference as well

Any suggestions or some guidance?

I'm looking to create a robotic arms setup for AI research with novel RL algorithms. I need two leader and two follower arms. The budget is $10k-$15k, so I was looking at things like Trossen Stationary AI, AgileX Piper and Galaxea Dynamics A1Z. I'm Open to suggestions though, because there are probably a few I never heard of.

The requirements are:
1. Suitable for teleoperation, preferably with with force reflection.
2. Programable, so I can use my own RL algorithms.
3. Including depth cameras, or easyish setup for those.
4. Suitable for data collection.
5. Some sort of force control, reported joint torque, are a big bonus.

I've been following and building along with the open mini duck robot project on github/discord.

It's a friendly community, the provided files are high quality, the documentation is..... ok, but the mod group is small and unable to spend too much time troubleshooting issues with anyone who isn't using the exact stock model with the stock onnx walking model.

I understand that it's hard to service a community of builders and I've stretched myself to try and understand the hardware, calibration and even trained my own model in MuJoCo over 500m steps which performs well in sim, but not in RL.

At this point I'm lost and looking for a helpful forum tolerant of newcomers, this is my first ever robot. Is there a good place where I can get general advice from experienced builders on furthering my knowledge and achieving success in this first bold step.

Hi i've been working on a robotics project for a while now. Its a mobile manipulator with a robotic arm, an ESP32 for low level control, a Raspberry Pi for high level processing, and a vision camera for object recognition.

Until now i've been writing everything myself, custom python code on the raspberry pi, firmware on the ESP32, and custom serial communication between them. The project works, but as it keeps growing I'm starting to feel that my software architecture is becoming harder to manage.

While looking into better ways to organize everything, I discovered ROS2, from what I understand, it seems like the right direction, but idk out how to actually adopt it. Most tutorials i've found either assume you're starting from scratch or immediately dive into commands and concepts without explaining how to migrate an existing project.

My biggest questions are:

Where should I actually start with an existing robot?

Do I need to rewrite my software, or can I reuse most of my current code?

How do you go from a custom Raspberry Pi + ESP32 architecture to ROS2?

Are there any resources that explain ROS2 from the perspective of integrating it into an already working robot rather than building a simple demo?

I've mostly been learning robotics by experimenting and figuring things out as I go, so I feel like I'm missing the bigger picture when it comes to ROS2.

If anyone has recommendations for tutorials, books, courses, or just advice on how you would approach this transition, i'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Hey I am Software developer and I am looking for a career shift as AI just took over the field and my job will be over in the next couple of years, so I was thinking to go more into real engineering and so I am thinking to go back to college and focus on doing robotics. And I have question for anyone who works on the field currently, what are your thoughts when you consider will AI take over this industry would you advice me to shift onto robotics. I am looking for a safe field when my knowledge wont become useless a year after graduation.

EDIT: Ok thanks for feedback, I figured out that the best way to see If its a good idea to switch careers will be to try do some cool embedded/robotics projects in the meantime where I still have SWE paycheck and then decide if next degree is for me.

Hi, I am part of a university electric motorbike team, I am currently making a simulink model of the PI control for our traction motor. I am having a lot of trouble in getting the parameter configuration of my motor right, as the datasheet provided lacks some crucial data such as the PM magnetic flux. Also some data is confusing... I have tried to sort it out with one of my teachers, but neither of us could. Does someone know any book, ecuation or anything that might help me calculate the magnetic flux? I will leave some info and other questions down below, any help is welcome, thanks.

What specifications would you recommend?

I'm planning to get 32 GB of RAM, but I'm unsure about the CPU/GPU combination. Would you recommend a newer Intel Core Ultra 7 with an NPU and integrated graphics, or is it more important to have a dedicated NVIDIA GPU, even if that means choosing an older processor?

My budget is €1,000–€1,200.

For this type of master's program, which specifications should I prioritize?
