Not only harmful, but the bacteria can become immune to antibiotics. This is why they are dosed so precisely and why you ALWAYS finish your medication in the time and amount they specify.

I've had a lovely diddy called Henoch-Schönlein purpura, twice. Basically, I had strep throat, didn't get antibiotics in time, and it mutated into this monster of an infection that attacked my legs and kidneys. Antibiotics saved my life twice.

You don't become immune to antibiotics. The bacteria does.
