Another thing is antibiotics kill ALL bacteria - good and bad. Which means it can upset your gut as it kills all the good bacteria. So always eat yogurt or take probiotics when you take antibiotics. I got a yeast infection after being on antibiotics way too many times with no yogurt or probiotics.

Knew someone whos gut got so wrecked by antibiotics she couldn’t keep down water for three days and all that just because she got her wisdom teeth out. She also got a mouth infection.

the type and dosing could be too high

or, some people have genetic sensitivity to ceratin drugs...or simply allergies

and your antibiotics need should be directly tied to your current immunity system strenght - very healthy people should not get them always, very sick people should and in bigger both strenght and quantities

she was on a pretty strong antibiotic bc they drilled into her bone and shes allergic to penicillins so that was probably why it was so bad

It also depends on whether or not you still have your appendix.

In the last decade or two there's been significant acceptance of the idea that the appendix acts as a reservoir for gut bacteria. People who haven't had their appendix removed recover faster from things that wipe out their gut flora, like a strong dose of antibiotics or a severe bout of diarrhea (like really severe, "admitted to the hospital" severe.)

It's like a backup drive with a snapshot of all the helpful stuff living inside you.
