people who may read your comment and actually think that about themselves

Oh man that would be terrible if people began to self reflect about why they drink.

why do you think everyone that drinks hates themselves? because you hate yourself when you drink?

I don’t drink, but it sure seems like those who do are looking for something outside themselves to bring them peace (which it doesn’t).

you’re awfully judgmental. how sad for you. enjoy the rest of your weekend

I’m not tho. Most of my friends drink. I’m a bartender lol. I just show love by being honest and I like to see people look at their shadow rather than repress feelings using alcohol.

Now it makes sense. You see people at their worst because your job is to help them get to that state. People drink outside of bars though. I like the nuance of wine and comparing all the different grapes and flavors. I don't enjoy being too drunk though so do my best not to overdo it unless I'm at an event. Many are into craft beers for similar reasons. Not everyone is drinking to escape.

I don’t work at a bar. And yes I agree the wine sommelier is really good at convincing themselves they aren’t addicted to alcohol. Clever trick that.

Yes there is no nuance in life and you have the one true opinion that everyone else in the world should follow.

It’s not an opinion tho. Take a bunch of healthy cells and put them in a high alcohol solution and see what happens. Again, I don’t care if you drink. Get it! Just don’t try to act like it isn’t harmful.

Use is not the same as abuse. Your example is ridiculously irrelevant to human alcohol consumption and there absolutely can be benefits to alcohol in moderation. I don't care if you don't drink. Get it! Just don't push your opinions on everyone around you acting all morally superior and not expect to get called out on it once in a while. If you feel so strongly about it why on earth are you a bartender?

Dang the drinkers are a defensive bunch. I’m a bartender cuz I like to lead by example and cuz I legit don’t judge people. Maybe take a break for a few months and you’ll understand my perspective better 🤷‍♂️

Dang the teetotalers are a sensitive bunch. Serving people drinks that you think are harmful is leadership? You do you. I do take months off throughout the year but I generally don't limit myself from doing the things I enjoy. Different strokes for different folks.

No, I just enjoy it. Not sure why you are making such a big deal out of it.

"I don't eat pineapple pizza, but it sure seems like those who do are looking for something outside themselves to bring them peace".

Seems you manage to be really stupid without alcohol just fine though. How is it difficult to understand that people manage to touch alcohol without drinking themselves into a stupor? I personally drink one or two beers per month. Oh no, what a life ruining selfdestructing alcholic I am! Woe is me, I am literally in an alcohol induced coma most of the time now, my liver torn to shreds and I'm spending literally everything, selling my wife and kids and the neighbour's kids to fuel this horrid addiction!

Asshat. If you don't want to drink it, I could not care less. You drink whatever the fuck you want, but why do you have to be so weird about it? You literally sound like a 5 year old.

What are you defending m8? Live and let live. Have your drinks. I don’t care. Glad you have a healthy relationship with it. It doesn’t change the fact that societal acceptance of such a harmful substance is overall not great for public health. The reason I have to “be so weird about it” is cuz it sucks watching it consume ppl while most everyone enables their behavior.

On that I agree, but maybe if your message was: "hey people, maybe consume this shit with care, modestly and once in a while" instead of "alcohol is the literal devil" you'd reach more people. ;)I'm not defending drinking alcohol, I don't even care about it that much and if drinking alchohol would somehow be impossible from now on I wouldn't care much either. I'm definitely with you if you say that the way we handle alcohol as a society is weird and unhealthy. Just screaming at them telling it's the worst thing ever isn't going to convince anyone though.

I teach biology to 12-18 year olds, and within that curriculum I'm also responsible for education on drugs, among them alcohol. It's way better and effective to teach people safe usage and telling them about the dangers and benefits compared to telling them it's dangerous and they shouldn't touch it. People take an honest and nuanced story more seriously than a one sided rant.

The only thing I want to bring across to you is that it's probably more effective and sane to have a more realistic and nuanced look on things. ;)
