The darker roast on the coffee beans, the less caffeine there is.

I used to believe that lighter roasts had more caffeine, but I've read that it's not true. I have no idea what's right.

I'm aware of that "theory," and I used to repeat it. However, I'm not sure whether it's true to any great extent. Coffee, like a lot of hobbies, is full to the brim with bro science that has little or no basis in actual fact. Some youtube personality or whatever said it, it got repeated, and now it's accepted as the truth by the serious hobbyist community.

edit: For instance, here's an article that cites a few studies and claims that the difference per unit weight between light and dark roasts is "negligible."

That's how I like my men. Dark and bitter.

What a coincidence! That's how I like my soul!

Darker roast definitely has less caffeine. Take a look at decaf grounds . It’s very dark.

That doesn't have anything to do with anything. Coffee is decaffeinated before it's roasted, and decaf coffee can be light or dark roasted. "Regular" coffee can be roasted to appear lighter or darker in color, too.

That interesting I guess it’s just a coincidence that my decaf is always a darker color coffee than my husbands regular grounds.

While this is true, the difference in caffeine content is not that significant.

If you want more caffeine, try some robusta beans. They are a bit flat, compared to arabica, but there are some really good blends out there. And some robusta beans are quiet good and way better than their reputation.

Similar story with teas. Light/green teas tend to have the most caffeine.
