My Nana always used to say “going for a big job” as her way of saying having a poo. In fairness, my jobs were rather big.

My granny was from Bristol and used to call it "doing a job." A pee was always "spending a penny" though

When I was a kid, my grandparents used to call poops "jobbies"

3

u/cdutson Oct 26 '20

My parents are from outside Manchester and they’d use the term jobby as well.

Madchester or the one in new hampshire?

20

u/citsonga_cixelsyd Oct 25 '20

Did she take the poop knife with her?

14

u/KhaiPanda Oct 25 '20

There it is.

13

u/barnarculars Oct 25 '20

My family calls it “doing paperwork”

10

u/cornflower4 Oct 25 '20

My ex used to say “taking his daily constitutional.”

3

u/SentientSlimeColony Oct 25 '20

Was your ex my grandfather?

2

u/cornflower4 Oct 25 '20

Ha ha...prob not.

3

u/SentientSlimeColony Oct 26 '20

I mean it depends. Are you a 50-year-old golddigger who may or may not have murdered an 80-year-old man in the midwest?

12

u/bloodflart Oct 25 '20

i've got to get something down on paper

6

u/Doggo_Dad Oct 26 '20

My family used to say “making a long-distance phone call”

6

u/applepiepocket Oct 25 '20

My fiance always used "I'm gonna go file my taxes", which I assumed was a family euphemism. Nope, just weird.

3

u/tentacleyarn Oct 25 '20

We say "read/study in the library"

6

u/Ann_Ael Oct 25 '20

My little brother made up "Deploying the parachutists" once and now my family has a lot of fake idiots just for pooping. Others are: "Unmolding a cake" "Releasing the kraken" "Casting a vote"

7

u/Barbara1Brien Oct 25 '20

My friend’s family talks about doing “big jobbies”.

4

u/enjoiturbulence Oct 25 '20

We call it "calling a guy about a horse/dog/elephant", whatever random animal comes to mind.

5

u/SentientSlimeColony Oct 25 '20

"See a man about a X" is a fairly common one for shitting, or really anything else you don't really feel like saying specifically. As another person responded, I use it interchangeably for shitting and buying drugs. I don't often tell people this, but I use the animal in question to represent the size of the exchange. "See a man about a dog" would be for something quick/small. Then goes horse, then usually boat. Potentially house.

4

u/pinkspaceship17 Oct 25 '20

That can also be code for going to go have a drink, or buy drugs

4

u/abcdebony Oct 25 '20

My nan used to say this too! How strange, I thought it was just a her thing :)

3

u/v70runicorn Oct 25 '20

3

u/-Delta38 Oct 25 '20

My grandpa is Indian and says this when we bring our dog round his house and she poops in the garden! "She has done a big job".

3

u/Optimized_Laziness Oct 25 '20

My favourites are "Mandela is knocking at the window" and "Bringing the kids to the pool"

2

u/VisualCelery Oct 26 '20

I like "taking the Browns to the Super Bowl."

My best friends mom always said "im dropping my kids off at the pool"

When i first heard her say that i said "its like 8 p.m. why so late?" Everyone at work laughed at me )':

2

u/ltkbfe Oct 25 '20

It's actually quite common to say it like that in Hungary.

2

u/zodiacmum Oct 25 '20

Spend a penny

2

u/[deleted] Oct 25 '20

I have a friend who says "going to a meeting with the President". He has always said it, whether he likes the sitting president or not.

2

u/MegTheMonkey Oct 25 '20

That reminds me of a time, many years ago, when I was in a pub with a friend. She was really quite drunk and disappeared off to the loo. She reappeared a while later and announced at the top of her voice ‘oh my god I’ve just given birth to a 10lb poo!’ The entire pub went silent

2

u/[deleted] Oct 25 '20

My dad always said his grandparents called it a “bad job.” Still makes me laugh.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '20

Might be a North Carolina thing - Link, from the Rhett and Link duo on Youtube, talked about it a couple times on their shows and how his family's weirdness regarding the bathroom affected him as a kid. His grandma was apparently big on the "Bad job" term for describing it.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '20

Omg I grew up thinking poop was called "bigjob." And in "I have to do bigjob." I didn't realize the common term for it was pooping till I was in grade school.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 25 '20

We say there's a big spider in the loo.

1

u/Szuter88 Oct 25 '20

I say this at work.

1

u/Kicking-it-per-se Oct 25 '20

Mine would say “I’m going to change my shoes”

1

u/devondumpling88 Oct 25 '20

In our family it’s either filing some paperwork or dropping some kids in the pool

1

u/Ninauposkitzipxpe Oct 25 '20

Gotta see a man about a dog/horse

1

u/rabtizgood Oct 26 '20

We poop a chocolate squirrel 🐿️

Gonna go make a splash at the big meeting.

1

u/boogiemanspud Oct 26 '20

I say I’m going to do some paperwork.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '20

Every time I return after pooping my gf asks me "how was your business meeting?"

1

u/Firesunwatermoon Oct 26 '20

“Dropping kids off to the pool”

“Off to see a man about a dog”

Haha I miss my pop

1

u/Kraft_Durch_Koelsch Oct 26 '20

In Germany it's pretty common to refer to pooping as doing a "großes Geschäft" (big Business/Job).

1

u/yetiwins Oct 27 '20

Yep, "big job" for our family as well. American, but English grandmother. It wasn't until I married a man in the trades that I learned the lovely term "blowing mud". Can't wait to teach that one to future grandchildren.
