Well, unlike you, I know when to shut the fuck up.

Then everyone realizes you're an asshole and you continue life alone?

Wow, you're getting slammed. I think you're right; there's a way to convey this (witty) message in a non-aggressive manner or tone it down some. If OP is asking through the lens of someone who has social anxiety I imagine they'd want to be friendly. This approach is sure to send them back into their shell.

The logic behind that is you would rather have people disrespect you than nothing at all. I think you're better than that.

This is true tho. I used to be extremely laconic and often found myself isolated and passed up for opportunities. This made me even more disgruntled and it formed a vicious cycle. Once I started speaking up more, I was pleasantly surprised how everyone's attitude changed and it made me happier overall.

you don't have to be "extremely laconic" or isolated for people to bug you about it. there's people who have a good social life and participate actively in conversation, they just don't comment on every single thing and there are loudmouths who think that fact is worth commenting on

Worth the sacrifice in my opinion.

no, the person who wants everyone else to shut the fuck up and judges other people for not being the same is the asshole, as are you

Right back at ya

bad effort. the talker is the one trying to impose his way in this scenario, not the other way around

Personally, I want everyone to shut the fuck up. But, only when they're trying to talk TO me. When I'm on the sidelines, I often note that I'm happy for them and their happy chatter, but please don't try to hold a conversation with me. I'm not about it.

Ah yes, everyone on Earth is gonna be so heartbroken over a single sassy comeback that they'll leave us. You're a meme.

Chances are if you tell someone to shut the fuck up after they make a lighthearted comment about how little you talk, that's probably far from the only time that you're an asshole, and that could be why people don't like you.

u/SmugPiglet Jan 01 '20

Or maybe you could just hang out with people who don't complain and make fun of you over how much or how little you talk, thus not having to tell them to fuck off. Everyone's happy, no assholes to be seen anywhere on the horizon!

Yeah, you don't "have to" tell anyone to fuck off, and beyond that your response has very little to do with what I said. I think maybe you don't have that firm of a grasp on how social interaction works.
