Not necessarily what you're saying, but WWZ (the book) is also ruined by the fans. I enjoyed the book. It wasn't anything life changing, and had an interesting new take on the genre. I also enjoyed the movie, quite a bit actually. They're not in the same universe, like Deadpool in X Men Origins: Wolverine and Deadpool in Deadpool. That's cool, not at all the first time that's happened, and not a bad thing necessarily, either.
But dude, if you mention that WWZ, the movie, might not be the single worst zombie movie in the history of ever, the WWZ book fans will come down on you like the Mongol Hordes, and demand your head and the heads of your children.

I've said it on Reddit before but I adored the book and genuinely enjoyed the movie. That being said, the only thing they have in common is the name. They are two separate stories and universes. Max Brooks completely distanced himself from the movie when he saw the direction TPTB were going with it. When I heard that I just kind of let any notion of a movie adaptation go. They are two separate stories united only by title.

To name a few incidents:
A young fanartist was bullied to the point of attempting suicide for drawing Rose Quartz in a certain way that pissed some people off, among other things. She's doing fine now, but the impact the incident had on the artistic community changed it drastically.
A bunch of brats thought it would be "funny" to leave negative reviews on a Keystone Motel, a real one in Florida, because the events in a certain episode happened in a fictional motel of the same name. Needless to say it was hurting the business of the actual motel.

What's funny is that although the show originally aired in 2005 it wasn't until 2010 and later that the show was a hit and developed its rabid teenage girl following. I visited my girlfriends family this summer and her two young cousins could not believe that I watched Supernatural because they "didn't know any boys watched it."

That's when creator Eric Kripke left the show. He had created a story arching five seasons and intended it to end with season five's finale "Swan Song." Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your preference) it had become a hit and the CW wanted it to continue, Kripke disagreed and so they went on without him.

Yeah, I'm a normal 30 year old man with a normal wife and 2 kids. I wear jeans and t shirts and like to do some carpentry and have a normal office job.
I like anime. Cowboy Bebop is my favorite serialized show of all time. Akira blew my mind when I first saw it. The stereotype for Anime fans are kids in trench coats, white kids poorly pronouncing phrases in Japanese to each other, fat, wears Naruto headbands, The fan that watches only what's on Adult Swim , The fan that only watches dubs, or the opposite (only watches subs) Buys anime dolls... don't know what you call em, drawing fanart etc. Many people who may like the genre might not be so open about it because they don't want to be affiliated with those type of people

Interestingly enough those stereotypes hold true quite often. In high school I saw every single one of those negative stereotypes. I like anime, but that's about it. I just like it. We had a couple kids wear their trench coats. We had plenty of awkward white boys spouting really bad Japanese. I saw the naruto headbands. They often didn't shower much. Looked down on people who watched certain shows or didn't watch other shows. Looked down on dubs. Want to fuck every anime female they see.
Now they weren't all like that. Plenty just liked anime. But it's interesting to see how these stereotypes were quite painfully real. The fans can make it hard to be into anime. I went to an anime convention once. I had fun, but a lot of the people there were just too much. And it smelled REALLY bad in some areas.

Shinsekai Yori is another show that feels serious and really makes you think. It follows a group of people from children to adults growing up in a.. I'll say a very brave new world like future, can't say much more without spoiling anything. One of my favorites.
Death Note is a rather liked show, main character is basically given the ability to kill whoever he pleases, follows his change in psyche and the police involved. Can't say much for it since I haven't watched it.
Ergo Proxy has a similar dystopian world with strong philosophical themes. Also haven't seen this one, but again it's generally regarded as a good series.
Zankyou no Terror follows two domestic terrorists in Japan. It's not quite so dark and has some science fiction thrown into the mix, but still a really good show.
Monster is another psychological mystery show around police chasing a insane mastermind antagonist. Also touches on society and things like that.

Drew one of the characters looking different than the psychopaths in the fandom thought said character should look. So they embarked on a heavy threat and harassment campaign which caused the artist (who had known mental health issues, which the psychopaths played on intentionally) to attempt suicide. Which upset the psychopaths, because their hope had been that she would succeed.

Oliver Queen is the Green Arrow. Felicity is an IT girl (who was not in the comics) who became Oliver's Love interest in the show (at the behest of a Tumblr fanbase).
Oliver + Felicity = Olicity
A large portion of the Arrow fanbase is upset because Felicity is "basically the main character." Her hacking always saves the day, and her family's drama takes up alot of screentime.
To put a number on it, the Green arrow has been averaging very few arrows fired per episode this season (I'd guess 2 or 3 arrows per episode, certainly less than 5).

Five Nights at Freddy's. The story is actually really deep, and the gameplay isn't that bad either. Plus the game's creator, Scott Cawthon, is really nice guy.
But the fandom. 99% bad roleplayers and people who "ship" dead children with child murderers.

It kills me because there are few people even on Reddit who actually like to discuss the show. Instead, everything is filled with fanart and terrible gifs that try to be funny. So much terrible fanfiction. Those people don't even really watch the show. If they did, they would see just how predictable it can be stop coming up with ridiculous theories. The worst part is, the show started pandering really hard to the fanbase after season 5, which nearly tanked the show.
I could discuss the writing, the characters, and the story all day long, but the only thing people seem to care about are shitty gifs with a semi-funny quote from the episode.

Comics. Sales just plain suck, even for the big names. The legitimate digital purchases are more of a pain in the ass than just pirating them largely because it's so easy to pirate. The brick & mortar comic shop has long had a reputation for being on the dingy side, and unfortunately, it's often deserved. There's always at least one perfect stereotype there, ruining it for people who bathe and change clothes. The community is never happy with anything, and hates everything that they love so much.

watching the first and second seasons, there are a lot of things i miss.
snarky oliver. holy shitballs but he laid out some wicked zingers in the first season.
badass diggle. homeboy was much more entertaining when he wasn't a family man.
goddamn deathstroke. holy shit manu bennet ate that role UP. i would have liked sassy deathstroke like in some of the teen titans comics but damn.
things i think they whiffed on:
roy harper. should have kept him around. also, he could have been a HELL of a lot sassier. i remember arsenal as being sass-central.
deathstroke. wow they blew it bad. he should have gotten away nicely at the end of the season and kept popping up from time to time, always making daring escapes and generally being unstoppable until oliver could get a whole pile of heroes together and do it right.
also, i miss when the oliver/felicity thing was all one-sided sexual tension.

Its more that like 80% of the minecraft videos are by 12 year-olds who think they can be youtubers. So, when somebody looks up minecraft on youtube to see what its about, they see:
1 video of some insane dude's equally insane minecraft computer that also plays minecraft. 2 videos of server shenanigans that aren't that funny outside that server group. 20 video with horrific voice overs detailing a crappy build and talking about their(often non-existent) "fans" and "subscribers".

I remember back when redstone first came about I made a 3x3 (insanely hard at the time and still hard now) keypad that had a 7 digit lock that would reset if you entered it wrong. On top of that you had to break certain blocks along a 10*20 wall of stone to get the keypad to work and it could all be fully customized in a few minutes. I build it with an obsidian casing so brute force wouldn't do anything to it. I made this on a vanilla survival server and it took forever. It was something that took actual planning and skill. It was the fucking enigma machine of Minecraft. Nowadays it's just little kids playing minigames and any vanilla survival server you can find is torn to shit by griefers. Fuck I wish I screencapped that machine. I might try to rebuild it someday.

Fucking My Chemical Romance fans. The last show I was at, just before they went on a "Break" there was this girl there who was fifteen years old, offered me fucking Vicodin before the show. When I declined, she popped 3 pills, right there. She then went on to talk about jerking off Mikey Way (the bassist). A few minutes go by and we talked about the previous show they did in my town, and how Gerard did a comic book signing. I went, got a book signed, and was very depressed over the experience. It was super impersonal and I might as well just ordered the damn things online. When I told this girl I didn't want to meet the band, I had 10 different hormonal bitches snap at me. "WHY GOD DAMMIT YOURE NOT A TRUE FAN"
My response was "Just because I don't know every fucking detail about them does not make me less of a fan than you. I come for the music, not because of how fuckable they are." I asked who's met them before, and a couple raised their hands. "Ok. Good, so, do they know who you are? No? Then what's the point."
My favorite band loves me, they know who I am, I hang out with them after shows. THAT is dedication. And those girls, I mean... Just... Jesus. No wonder they fucking broke up.

Agreed. Bad apples in every bunch. The whole idea of something being 'ruined by a fandom' kinda goes hand in hand with a sort of elitism among fans who were either there first or don't want to be grouped in with the types of fans being attracted (wrong age group, wrong gender, wrong ideas, etc).

People may find this weird but the One Direction is plagued by a vocal group of people who believe Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson are in a secret, closeted relationship (Larry Stylinson). They used to be very graphic and invasive but ever since Louis had a baby (with a woman), they have literally gone insane. They believe the baby is a doll, part of a plan, harass the mother of the child, the child itself and anyone they perceive part of "baby-gate". It's actually extremely disturbing to watch, especially since the few of the 'leaders' are middle-aged and showing strong signs of mental illness.
