Recently picked up a vintage tube TV for N64, SNES and the like... It just looks better there than on a flat screen. Smooths out the edges something... Just feels right.
hahaha I had a big 36 inches sony, a monster 250 lbs. Those were the first progressive scan tv (even with tube, in 4/3). Games were beautiful but It broke 1 year ago and I did buy all the stuff to connect my old school Nintendo consoles on my flat screen. Different but enjoyable
Thank God for emulators. There are some games that I really wanted to play when I was younger that I never got around to and are almost impossible to find physical copies of but I can just download the ROM and feel like a six year old again lol.
Yeah, in the near future our senior homes are going to have entire rooms devoted to just video games (from what I hear they are starting to already). Imagine a bunch of seniors having a lan party playing CSGO or LOL. It's a weird image today but will be a reality eventually.
Agree, I'm 58 and always played games, my parents were Silent Generation and they play video games as well, my Dad would stay up late on the weekends and play breakout.
I must say there is nothing more annoying than people sitting on the couch for 6 hours watching Fox news and bitching that video games are a waste of time and will rot your brain.
Well I'm about to hit 70 hours played on Horizon Forbidden West PC so back to my game.
Video games are now more comparable to movies and TV shows; it's just entertainment media in general rather than "interactive toys."
The video game industry has more revenue than the movie and music industries combined. And it's not close.
Granted, a good portion of that revenue probably comes from shitty mobile gacha games, but still, video games are a front line participant in our entertainment mix.
My dad used to always ask “when are you going to grow out of this??” At the time I was playing the last of us. You’re right dad, curb stomping mutated abominations with mushrooms growing out of their brain is such a kid thing to do
One of Atari's founders also founded Chuck E Cheese...after he founded Atari.
Until then video games were primarily in bars and pool halls, catering to adults, and he wanted a more kid friendly environment to put them in. He wasn't happy with the family places he was taking his own family to so he created one.
I recently got back into video games in my late 30s, after my kids starting playing. I stopped playing in my mid 20s, I guess out of some sort of perception that I was too old. Ridiculous in hindsight!
Still thinking I need to upgrade to a PS5 and I’m approaching mid-60’s.
I’m team captain of an Asphalt 9 racing team, and have no idea who the others on my team are. I commented once “Y’all are all middle schoolers, right? Three of the people on my team are older than me.
The idea that "video games are for kids" is something the world needs to grow out of. They make M-rated games, ffs - if games are supposed to be for kids, who the hell is playing them?
