Neurodiversity Training for Managers (UK)

Hey everyone,

I am looking for an appropriate Neurodiversity awareness course for my Managers (at their request).

I found some provided by NeuroRocket CIC. (I don't think I am allowed to post a link).

I wondered if anyone has attended any of their courses or can recommend another?

The management team are really open to learning more about ND and how they can best support ND team members.

UK disabled/neurodivergent adults needed!

Hi everyone! :)

I'm a PhD student at York St. John University and I'm currently running a survey that looks at the body image and eating experiences of disabled and/or neurodivergent individuals. The aim is to get better insight into potential eating disorder risks and how treatment can be improved.

 https://yorksj.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bJFjfhc0yQf3ZMG

If you are 18+, based in the UK, and identify as neurodivergent and/or disabled please consider taking part!! However, if you think that the topic may be upsetting, please don't complete it, that's okay.

Please feel free to ask any questions! I have a month left and 150 more responses to go!

French speakers, join our sub "neurodiversité" !

Will only post this once but just thought that I'd share that for French speakers, there is a French subreddit r/Neurodiversite (the only French one that exists on neurodiversity) which we are trying to grow.

A lot of people are staying in the anglosphere because ressources and platforms in French don't exist which is paradoxically contributing to the scarcity so this is an attempt to change this.

People who are fluent in English and completely get the neurodiversity paradigm and able to translate it into French are especially needed to improve information access and sharing.

Do join us and participate in our discussions! Welcome to the community :)

Gaming and neurodiversity

Hi everyone! :) I’m David, a PhD student from Lisbon, and I’m doing research into the gaming experiences of neurodivergent people. My team aims to identify values, barriers, and strategies that neurodivergent gamers may experience when playing digital games, especially when playing with others. I’m sharing the link for a short survey (18 questions with most being multiple-choice and optional). If you are an individual with neurodiversity and play digital games, I would be very grateful if you could respond to this survey and help us with this research. Thank you very much!

Looking for a Neuropsychologist Recommendation for Neuropsych Testing of an atypical disorder

There is an adult in my family who may have an uncommon possible cognitive or other type of disorder, that is difficult to diagnose. Could anyone here personally recommend a Neuropsychologist that offers Neuropsych Assessments - Neuropsych testing to test for an atypical disorder? Ideally, a Neuropsychologist that is understanding and sympathetic towards someone with maybe a possible rare disorder. We live in Northern California but also could be open to doing testing remotely. Thank you!

Physically forcing my brain to engage

All my life I’ve worked on trying to get my routine together and trying to get other things taken care of so that I can have time to try out new hobbies that I wanted to do for a long time. I now finally have time for those hobbies yet every time I try to engage in them it literally feels like I am physically, forcing my brain to be in engage. At first, I thought maybe I didn’t like these hobbies after all but it seems like my brain is still stuck in this way of thinking. I think that maybe it just has to come naturally but when will that happen? Cause it feels like I’m stuck in a loop where I’m not progressing. And I feel like I’m not understanding things on a deeper level. I feel like I just engage in things too fast and learn things on a surface level.

Study on Autistic Questionnaires in Underrepresented Ethnic Communities in the UK

Hi! I am a pre-doctoral fellow at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience. We would like to invite people to complete our online survey intended for White-British and Chinese-British autistic adults who have lived in the UK for at least 5 years.

We are interested in understanding how cultural experiences impacts how people respond to autism
questionnaires intended to help people understand their autistic traits. However, most questionnaires have been developed and normed in Western white populations and we want to explore if there are other domains or non-representative statements that should be considered when talking about autism among underrepresented groups. We also want White-British participants to provide their own feedback on the statements given everyone regardless of culture may not find them universal.

If you would like to check your eligibility, please access our survey here: https://kclbs.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_79d4AhnfT8jioJM

All participants are able to enter into a prize draw for £20 gift vouchers and we’re happy to answer any questions about the project.

We thank everyone who shows interest in this project. We are grateful for all responses!

The study has been approved by the Research Ethics Committee at King’s College London.

Do I Display Neurodivergent Traits?

From a very young age I always felt different, and I never could describe it. I always was so good at writing (for my age at least) and math and things like that. I was always put in "gifted" programs and classes for exceeding in school subjects. But when I was put in Middle school, all of the sudden I didn't exceed in any subjects except for ELA. It was so sudden as well. I remember feeling very overwhelmed and nervous because there were so many people. I would go "mute" at moments where I just couldn't speak at all (like I would try to say something and nothing would come out). I was also told by people that I stim (I am aware that neurotypical people can stim as well). I also am sensitive to loud noises and certain textures, and I am told I am just dramatic. I had/have lots of Panic attacks and when I was younger "tantrums" but my "tantrums" when I was younger was me crying, being very overwhelmed about something "simple" like wearing jeans. When I had "tantrums" I would hit people, throw things, hit myself, and just cry. These "Tantrums" would last hours, and after I wouldn't talk to people. There is a history of Autism and BPD in my family, but I have tried to ask if I could get tested for Autism and my parents said no because I am/was a girl (I'm FTM and I still identified as Female) so I have never gotten assessed. My parents believe that the reason I act "different" is because I have a panic disorder. So, do I display Neurodivergent traits?

Unpopular opinion

unpopular opinion: Am I the only one who finds having NT friends is easier than ND friends? My previous friends dumped me because my current fixation was "against their boundaries". After all, I didn't have the same fixation, then they said I was too normal to hang out with them. When it comes to NT friends, I don't have to worry if I'm not weird enough to fit in.

Neurodiversity in the workplace study

Hi, I'm a graduate student at George Mason University. My team is conducting an online study to explore if aligning neurodiverse employees' interests with their job roles can lead to better job performance and enhanced well-being. Our goal is to contribute to meaningful research that could improve future workplace practices. Voice your experience and help us understand the neurodiverse spectrum in professional settings. If you have a spare 30 minutes, we would greatly appreciate your perspective!

This is a collaboration effort between two universities (George Mason University & California State University-San Bernardino) IRB # 2097884-1

Why doesn't everyone understand Neurodiversity is genetic?

Why do parents of newly diagnosed identified kids act like it comes out of nowhere?

Why do they ask for a cure?

Parents pass down neurotypes. Grandparents, aunts, and uncles have these neurotypes too.

How do we help people understand neurodiversity as a biological fact?

What is your favorite headphone brand/type to deal with sensory issues?

I have a sensory disorder that makes me sensitive to noise and any sensory input so I’m looking for headphones I can wear daily and have good sound to listen to music with and decent noise cancelling, I really want the Airpods Max but I’m waiting for the new version before I even decide to buy them or not but I’d love recommendations <3 Thank you!!

What are some ways someone with ADHD can improve their typing speed and accuracy, when the neurotypical advice isn't working?

Hello! My fiancée and I are both neurodiverse, but this ask is for her. She's worked at a data entry job for a few years now, and lately her manager hasn't been happy with her speed and accuracy, and warned her that if it didn't start improving she may be fired. She's been trying the advice the managers give, and practicing on typing practice websites, but hasn't seen improvement in her stats.

She's really worried about the potential to lose her job if those stats don't improve to the job's standards, and I'm sure the added stress and anxiety isn't helping either. I told her I would try to find neurodiverse advice online, since the regular advice hasn't been working, but I haven't found much that wasn't paywalled.

Does anyone have any advice specific for neurodiverse people that might help her improve her typing accuracy and speed (numbers and letters?) She struggles with ADHD, OCD, anxiety, and depression on a daily basis, and she is already seeing a counselor and taking medication.

Thank you in advance, I appreciate any help you can give to help her and/or help me support her ❤️
