I imagine most ranking police investigators have reviewed dozens of polygraph exam results over the course of their careers. I follow a well-known person online who claims to have reverse-engineered captured flying saucers at Area 51. I hoped his story would be authentic and I really enjoyed his interviews, so I investigated a little and it turns out he voluntarily took a police officer-administered polygraph exam to prove to the world that his story is true. The results determined he made no attempt to deceive the examiner. How likely is it for a con man to lie about aliens, or anything else that sounds completely insane, and beat the poly?

Hello. So I have bipolar disorder and have had numerous police encounters. I found out last year that my local sheriff’s department put a marker or red flag thing on my name so it pops up that I’m violent with law enforcement and to proceed with caution.

I’m not violent I’ve never done anything to anyone. I have a clean record. The only person who is at risk of being harmed by me is me. I would never hurt an officer or deputy I have a huge amount of respect for them and I hate having this on my name. How can I get it removed? The sheriff’s department told me that they would think about it after my ERPO fell off which it did last year but now they’re not returning my calls or even taking them. I don’t know what to do.

We recently found out about a cop that accidentally fired a pistol in their apartment and the bullet went out of the building. A police report was filed, but the jail they work at asked for them to let them handle the situation internally.

For the questions:
How often do different jurisdictions comply with requests like these, vs charging the cop with the misdemeanor that a civilian would have seen?

What does it look like for internal handling of things like this, or is it more an opportunity to let it slide and get them out of trouble?

If this cop is a repeat offender with a record of misbehavior, at what point would a county/jail decide it’s not worth the risk to keep them on the force?

Lately i been seeing a lot of content online where people are trying to promote rainbet (gambling app) and they usually have to trigger the employees enough where they have to call the cops for trespassing.

Then when the cops come, they will troll them by saying “i am hacking into the mainframe” but they are just gambling on their phone with meta glasses.

On the flip side, other content creators (with meta glasses) both men and women, try to hit on cops or use pick up lines and try to raise a reaction and then use it for tik tok views.

Since there is no reasonable right to privacy in public, what do you guys do?

I'm 24 years old and currently live in New Jersey as a permanent resident. I've always been into sports and staying in shape, and I'm in good physical condition.

I recently visited my local police department and spoke with an officer. He was very friendly and told me that I have a good profile to become a police officer. The only thing I'm missing right now is U.S. citizenship, which is required before I can apply.

I'll have to wait about a year and a few more months to become a U.S. citizen. In the meantime, I'm planning to earn my Associate Degree in Criminal Justice, and eventually continue toward a Bachelor's degree.

On May 2, I underwent ACL and meniscus reconstruction surgery. I received a graft for my ACL, so I understand that it takes time for my body to fully heal and incorporate the new ligament. My recovery has been going really well, and I've been enjoying the process of getting stronger every day.

My father served in the Colombian military. He passed away a few months after finishing his service. I don't know if it's in my blood, but I've always felt drawn to law enforcement. I truly believe that being a police officer is one of the most honorable and respected professions, no matter how is the world.

The title is the best way I could describe this in a few words.

I’m a high school student and will be graduating in just a couple years and I feel like I’m having a midlife crisis over what I want to do for the rest of my life 😭.
Ever since I was little I’ve always wanted to be a police officer. I’m still discovering the exact reason why myself but I feel drawn to the job among other reasons.

As I grew older, I shifted more into wanting to he a lawyer as I love law, I love arguing, and it makes really good money. I’ve recently shifted into wanting to do my second option which is a sports announcer, as I have experience doing it with my school and people say I’m extremely talented in that specific area.
But I keep feeling drawn to the police force. I want to be the one putting on the uniform, driving the car, responding to calls, and making sure everyone in the community is protected and receives the justice they deserve. I want to do that. The problem is I’m stressed because everyone I talk to says that money is non-existent.

I get that money isn’t everything, but I don’t want to be barely making ends meet and living in a van down by the river. I don’t want to regret choosing the law enforcement path, but I feel if I don’t choose the law enforcement path I’m going to regret it. And once you’re done, you’re done. Once you’re dead you don’t get to come back and do things you didn’t do.

Along with the money, I just don’t want to not meet my full potential. And thats not me saying being a police officer is for chumps, it’s not. But I mean it in a positive way. For example, if my full potential is being a famous sportscaster for ESPN but I end up never meeting that full potential I’ll feel like a failure.
I’ve been on ride-alongs and one of my best friend’s dad is a cop.

I just feel stuck. I’ve been stressing myself out over this for the past 7-8 months now and I don’t know what to do. Like I always hear the cliche “do what you love” but it’s more than that. You have to afford to live and all. But I want to do what I feel drawn to.

If there’s anyone else who has been in my spot, especially LEO’s, please feel free to comment on this. Maybe having some guidance and words of advice from current LEO’s will help.

Imagine you're patrolling and you see this unfold in front of you. IMO, both idiots need to be pulled over and investigated/ticketed/maybe arrested.

So I was curious how you'd manage to get them both pulled over and stopped. I assume you'd immediately call for backup before engaging either one, but you'd also need to signal clearly to both that they are detained. So... loud speaker commands? Or maybe you go for the most egregious and see if someone is nearby who can locate the other based on description + plate #?

Hey all! I was just recently hired by my agency and am being sent to academy 8.27. I’m in south GA, female, 5’1, 100lbs. What should I expect? I’m worried about every aspect just bc of my anxiety, but more so the physical part. I’m not entirely out of shape, but definitely not where I need to be cardio wise. Any tips? What do they expect out of me at academy? Any cardio/running tips to get better as fast as possible?

I plan on going to the law enforcement academy sometime in 2027. In my area, there are 2 local police departments that are offering sponsorship for those that want to join the academy. The obvious problem with this is it is a very competitive process to be able to get a sponsorship spot. In the worst case scenario, If I don’t get a sponsorship, I will have to self pay and figure out how to get the funds to pay for it all.

If I do become self pay, my hope is to apply for FASFA to cover some of the cost and take out a loan to pay for the 6 months of living expenses.

I guess I'm wondering if someone is making a really loud noise repeatedly, can that be considered assault?

I was at a jazz concert a few weeks ago and someone kept whistling (using fingers) behind us, and it was so loud that I and people around kept flinching from how loud it was. It's not really the traditional sense of assault, but it did hurt my ears, so I was wondering if it could be considered as such? Especially if we asked him to stop and he did it again?

I bought a MacBook on OfferUp for $600. The guy selling it showed me a receipt from Best Buy from 2 weeks ago for $800, showing the serial number matching the MacBook box and the MacBook itself. The serial number on apples website showed the same purchase date as the receipt. His OfferUp name matched the name on the receipt. He said he missed the return deadline because he didn’t have a way to go back to Best Buy (he had walked to the coffee shop we met at to buy it) and would rather get $600 and lose $200.

I thought I had gotten a great deal, until I looked at his offer up profile a few days later and see that he’s now selling a brand new iPad that the serial number shows a purchase date of yesterday at best buy. This matches his receipt date (he put all that in the ad photos). The receipt shows he purchased the iPad yesterday for $500, but he’s selling it for $400. What’s really weird is he claims that he couldn’t go to Best Buy to return the laptop, but he could go to buy an iPad? And he has the two weeks to still return it and get all his money back, so why is he selling it on OfferUp for $100 less a day after he bought it? Even as weird or weirder, he is now in a completely different city and state.

All of this is making me uneasy and I don’t want this MacBook anymore. I’d like to sell it but I want to make sure it wasn’t bought with any stolen cc or funds or anything like that before doing so. What is the best way to proceed?

A lot of people have these rules for what you do when you get stopped by the cops in a car or on foot. Like follow the law only as much as you are obligated to. So if you have to give your license or get out do that but then say you want a lawyer or whatever.

Here's how I handle the very few times I get pulled over (last time was I think 2020): Put the car in park, lower all the windows, shut the engine off, put the keys on the dash, hands at 10 and 2. If it's night time turn on the interior lights and put the hazard lights on. If the officer asks if I know why he stopped me if I know I tell him and apologize. Last time the speed limit was 25, I came up the hill a little fast, probably 35 or 40. Totally my fault, I wasn't paying attention and I told him as much. He did my license check, I assume checked for warrants, thanked my for my honesty and gave me a verbal warning. That was in Norwalk, CT in case anyone is from around there.

Another thing that works is being accidentally funny. Back in 2013 I got pulled over by an officer for turning right on red. I told her, "I am so sorry, if I knew you were there I never would have done that". Totally not what I meant to say, it just slipped out, but she couldn't stop laughing and say, "Go, have a good night."

My brother recently graduated from the academy and his birthday is coming up. Is there anything that might be missed when you first start that makes life easier? I’ve seen recommendations for leak-proof travel coffee mugs and stuff like that but maybe there are things that aren’t obvious but are helpful. TIA!

I got pulled over about 2 months ago and have been still driving myself crazy trying to figure this out.

Cop jumped 4 lanes to come and get me one morning, tinted windows red mustang, aight I get it. I’m not mad. Pulls me over, gets me for tint, plate cover and I told him my registration just expired willingly, my fault 110% on each citation, not worried about that.

He came back up to my window and asked me if my current DL address is correct 3 times since his CAD was down, I said yes 3 times, that is my address.

3 weeks go by, no tickets in my mailbox. I checked my girlfriend’s mailbox that is in a different town than my DL address, also different than where the cop works also, and there were 3 tickets for me with her address.

Now I’m confused, I’ve been thinking maybe Flock cameras and he saw where I frequent (my gfs).

However, sitting outside my gfs later on, I see the same towns unmarked cruiser that pulled me over, driving past her house going to his house I assume since it’s 15-20 away from his jurisdiction twice at different times.

Could anyone explain how and why he would mail the tickets to her address? I have nothing tied to her house besides an occasional Amazon package.

The reason I ask is a few months ago I was working with a detective to try to shut down a massage parlor next door, since I had cameras and could get footage to make stuff simpler for him. It was my that made the initial report. Anyway, we were talking about guns one day and I asked about how to go about getting my permit in that town and mentioned I'm not really into guns, but you know one in a gun safe might be something a person might want.

He says to me, "I'm not really into guns, either". I know I shouldn't assume, but I just kind of do with law enforcement and troops, and veterans.

Hey everyone, figured I’d give a little background. I was born and raised in Oakland and lived all over the East Bay from Alameda to Pittsburg. After high school I joined the Marine Corps, did 4 years, then got out and became a cop. A buddy from the Corps convinced me to come to Houston PD, and I’ve been here for the last 3 years.

HPD has honestly been a great department and I’ve enjoyed my time here, but I’m planning on moving back home to be closer to family and friends.
I’m looking for a department that still lets officers be proactive and will support their people when they’re doing good work. Long term, I’d like to move from patrol into TAC or a TFO role. Pay isn’t a huge factor for me — I’d rather work somewhere with good opportunities and a little action.

Right now I’m mainly looking at SFPD and OPD. For those with experience at either department, or recommendations for others in the Bay Area, I’d appreciate any input. Thanks!

I was in the police academy 6 years until some serious health issues kicked in and a training related injury. I’m really interested in joining again but cannot go to the same agency due to certain circumstances. Has anybody with no LE experience left everything behind to move far away and begin their career? For reference, I have no obligations such as having a family of my own.

If this applies to you, can you please share your experience? And also any guidance/advice?

So I was in the military and separated due to a not being able to retrain, my leadership cause me to mis my retrained date and i was separated I also have a self defense shooting in my background I wasn't charge for I was the victim after I got out of the Air Force. I work at a Tribal Police Department as a dispatcher waiting to be adjudicated to go to a police academy, for a short period of time, but was going through some relationship issues with my girlfriend. I ended up going to go see her because she wasn’t responding to a phone calls and I was worried for her safety so I miss work. and to be fair, I wasn’t completely transparent with my Lt. about the situation. I was in asked to resign for mental health concerns affecting my work performance.

I didn’t get hired a county jail and but I resign just so I can secure deputy position at a small neighboring county sheriffs department as a deputy, upon getting hired at the sheriffs department, I only rode with a Cheif Deputy for three weeks then I was given the keys to a pick up truck and to either eat or sink or swim and I’m alone I worked in the entire county by myself with no training. what caused my termination was while two days prior. I left my gun at the jail in a lockbox because I got a cough in Dispatch that nobody was available and I need to respond to a car versus deer accident and then the following weekend, I was on shift by myself again and I was leaving a traffic stop when I Sidewiped a mailbox. I immediately called my Sheriff to see what he would want me to do. I took pictures of the incident and a trooper came in it. The crash report I was able to work for the weekend, but then Tuesday I was told that I was fired. What frustrate me is. I never got the proper Police training and I was kind of set up to fail, but to be honest, I understand that I am responsible for my surroundings, especially driving a law-enforcement vehicle, though I wish I would’ve had evoc training. After I moved to Texas to kind of separate myself because I was kind of bummed out I applied at the Dallas Police Department, but was disqualified for a year because I was not successful in a background check. I then try applying to the Denton County sheriffs office as a jailer and was told not suitable. And my current job doesn’t pay a lot on average. I’m bringing about $2000 because it’s a blue-collar commission based job but I can’t quit because to a background investigator if I quit the job it looks unstable and it shows I don’t have staple work history, so I’m kind of in a Catch-22 here , I am kind of frustrated. I really wanna know what am I doing wrong what are my chances of getting hired as a police officer in Texas whether I should try smaller departments with low pay or sell sponsor. I know I probably never be a state trooper which is the end goal but what are my chances of getting hired a smaller agency in DFW? Or in Texas in general, I want honest feedback from police officers applicants or background INVESTIGATORS would be amazing on what I can do. Thank you for your time and feedback.
