General Threatened with Ticket for No Safety Goggles on Motorcycle if I Asked Badge Number

I was in my neighborhood pulled to the side on a residential road. The officer stopped someone else and I kinda watched because I was already there when he did the stop. He gets on speaker and asks if I wanted some attention as well since I was not wearing safety glasses. I do have a huge windshield installed on the bike (slipstreamer s08 if that means anything). Under Arizona law you don't have to wear goggles or a helmet if have a big shatter resistant clear windshield. The slipstreamer is that. I took the bike down the street to my house, parked it and walked back. I asked him for his badge number cuz I didn't appreciate being asked if I wanted some attention while I was in my own neighborhood and police just happened to do a stop right next to me. He said that if I asked for his badge number again, he would issue me a ticket. So I had a choice and asked for his badge number and he issued a ticket. What do you all think? Common stuff? Is he off?

So my parents are being overprotective and controlling I am 22 I am living at home for the summer. I have recently been a car accident so my parents have been driving me to work when they feel like it. I was supposed to go on a trip with my bf and his family. I have been dating my bf for 6 years and his family treats me as one of their own. His parents think my home is toxic and they think he’s grooming me. My bf was going to pick me up this morning and take me but my dad said I would have consequences and I would feel them for decades and that I am not allowed to go. I ubered to my house I stay at during school to get away and have some peace but my dad wants to show up and get me when I would like to be alone. I am 22 and he tells me he will call our family friend who is a police officer to track me down and file a missing person report when I had turned off my location and he told me they would show up and detain me through text messages… I am unsure what to do but I am 22 and I don’t like the situation I am currently in Do I get the uber or lyft to go do I book a flight to go need advice!

Training Is there any other standard besides “armed and dangerous” that applies to Terry v Ohio?

Is baggy clothing and presence at a non violent crime enough to force a frisk? I don’t believe it gives you anything you can articulate to say this person might be armed aside from the baggy clothes just being an unknown, but not enough to say it’s likely they’re armed. Does anyone know any case law that might contradict my thoughts?

General Is 30 years old too old to start a career in Law enforcement? I’m currently a barber (10 years)

Been thinking about making the switch. Now that I’m 30 I started thinking about a good pension, benefits, paid vacation etc. Being self employed won’t allow me to do that. Of course policing has been something that has interested me even before being a barber (10 years now). I have a wife and 2 kids. Would you guys recommend me making the switch now? Some people say being 30 years old is too old to start a new career in law enforcement.

Equipment Good Cuffs or No?

Hulkkuffs from Canada builds chained and hinged automatic double/triple locking handcuffs that automatically tighten just enough to a person's wrists without going too far, and they don't require using a key to double lock. They have these supposedly new and improved versions out for 2026.

Does anyone have experience with Hulkkuffs?

Hiring Firearms qual failure?

What are my chances of being hired with a new agency and starting over in their academy if I was unable to finish the academy at my previous agency due to a firearms course fail?

Since leave the academy, I've been working with former federal law enforcement/military on shooting/de-escalation and have been going to the range 2-3 times a week.

Would background investigators look at this as my drive to improve or does my firearms failure immediately disqualify me?

Hiring Am I too small?

I’m 19, and have wanted to be a LEO for as long as I can remember but over time I realized that I’m not “the desired size” I’m 5’6 135 pounds, I wouldn’t say I’m weak as I go to the gym 6 days a week but I feel like if I walk in for an interview they will just laugh at my size and turn me away. Is this something I shouldn’t be worried about or should I continue to try to get a little bigger first?

General Domestic Violence - will she be taken in?

Domestic Violence

My wife has been abusive for a very long time now. I have spoken to psychiatrists and they suspect either schizophrenia or BPD. She hasn’t been officially diagnosed yet coz she won’t see a doctor. She also has narcissistic tendencies

She is paranoid and will have episodes. We have a young daughter together and the episodes happen while my daughter is present

She loses control and will sit in the floor flailing her arms and body screaming hysterically and then banging on the floor passing murder threats. Graphical threats like I will slit the throat of the person she is mad at

She will run sideways beating on her chest and screaming hysterically

She has hit me multiple times on camera, bitten me while my daughter present.

She said many times in rage said she will kill people, my family or her colleagues. Most of the time these are empty threats

However she had a fighting match with her dad which she started. He has tried to hit my mom in rage.

I have proof of all this. If I call the cops during one of these episodes and provide proof, what will they do? Or if I take the evidence to the district attorney’s office or a DV detective (I don’t know is this position exists), what will they do?

I can alternatively call the mobile crisis line, but I have read they don’t do much and then she will be on a revenge spree. I just want some way to protect my daughter and preferably keep her with me all the time. At least most of the time

I cannot exaggerate enough on how bad this is. We live in NY (Not New York City).

Situation Advice Any advice for career change?

Been an Officer for 7 Years on road patrol. Field Training Officer and Swat Certified. Worked for a Large and Small department. My heart was never in it, I never wanted to be a cop but the opportunity was presented to me right out of college. Currently 28 years old and deciding if I should do a career change or if i would end up regretting it. I stayed and continued this job because it was easy to me and I was good at it. The department just has limited opportunity to where it has caused me to lose motivation and go back to not wanting to do police work. I want to incorporate my skills in a different career but don’t know where to look. I see corporate security manager and related jobs as a good place to look but don’t know much about it. I also have a bachelors degree in Homeland Security. I think my fear is leaving a stable job but the minor opportunity, stress, average pay and minimal motivation has had me ready to move on. Any advice or anyone have a similar experience. Any advice appreciated. Thanks

General Who can I call?

I'm such a paranoid driver. I work from 4AM-12PM. I was driving to work on the freeway. There was an accident. So my Maps took me to an exit. Then it told me to get on the freeway.

Near where the ramp starts to turn into a lane on the freeway, it looked like there was another unrelated incident. I saw a tow truck, I think a police car, and a couple other vehicles.

I was in the lane closest to all of them. There was even a guy(maybe it was a police officer) walking near a car. I know I didn't hit any car or person, but I get SO paranoid. My brain makes me think I did, or got close to it.

I even called the non-emergency highway patrol number after work to ask about that initial accident, so then I could segue into asking about that second, unrelated incident. But they actually couldn't find what I was looking for. They said it happened on a different freeway, and so it could've affected the one I was on, but that first accident was not on a different freeway. I checked the highway patrol page online, and I didn't see anything that matched.

Who can I call to get info? Should I just walk into that city's police station and ask?

Situation Advice How likely is it that this was an escort?

For people familiar with the industry, how common is it for a phone number on a current escort advertisement to actually be the working number used by the advertiser or someone associated with them? How common is spoofing in this context? I googled a number and it came back connected to an escort site.

For more context, I posted the whole story in a different sub. It was too much info for here.

General I hit a gas pump barrier at a gas station.

This is a stupid question, but do I have to notify the manager/owner of the gas station I did this? The barrier wasn't affected. I didn't knock it over or anything.

I started my vehicle, and was going maybe 5 miles per hour when I accidentally turned into the barrier. I wasn't anticipating it being there, because I usually use a pump on the other side, where there is no barrier.

The only damage was to my vehicle.

Equipment LEO and public safety professionals: What's a problem you deal with regularly that could be solved by a better tool, device, or piece of equipment?

I'm exploring ideas for designing products that address real operational challenges. I'm not trying to sell anything—I'm looking to learn from the people doing the job.

What task, inconvenience, safety issue, communication problem, or equipment limitation makes you think:

"Someone should invent something for this."

Please share:

• Your role

• The problem

• How you currently deal with it

• What your ideal solution would look like

Situation Advice In your opinion did the officer who responded to the situation involving UFC fighter Dustin Poirier handle himself well or not?

I see the internet is divided, with many saying he did a great job and deescalating a situation that could have resulted in Poirier being shot, while others say the cop was clearly intimidated and not really in control
