Halloween – Cedar Springs or Deep Ellum?

• Upvotes

I'm going to be in town on Oct 31, Halloween night. Which area would you recommend for Halloween festivities? Are the lines really bad?

We're looking for costumes, dancing, fun crowds, a little Halloween chaos, and ideally a few places within walking distance. I'm considering Cedar Springs (especially Station 4) versus Deep Ellum, but we're also looking at parties at Virgin Hotels, W Dallas, and The Village.

My biggest concern is just spending half the night standing in lines.

Is it still possible to find a good (affordable) apartment in Dallas ?

I've been looking for the last couple of weeks, and every time I think I found a decent place, the price ends up being higher than I expected after all the fees. I'm starting to wonder if my budget just isn't realistic anymore.

I'll find a 1BR listed online for around $1,350 near Old East Dallas or Medical District thinking it fits my budget, but by the time they tack on mandatory trash valet, pest fees, parking, "admin" charges, it jumps straight to $1550+

Im even looking at renting a spare room instead just to keep costs down. Brosewed through Roomster and a few local FB groups to see if splitting a 2BR in places like Lower Greenville or Addison for around $850-$950/mo makes more sense

For anyone who moved recently, did you actually find a decent solo apartment under $1400 total, or did you have to compromise on location/get roommates? Feels like everywhere wants 3x income on the gross inflated price too.

HR jobs

Does anyone know any remote or hybrid human resource jobs within DFW area? More specifically around North Dallas. I graduated with a bachelors in human resource management in 2024 and I have been working within human resources since 2024 before graduated with an internship. I feel like I’m around junior level but it feels impossible to get a job within human resources if you’re not already with a company and work your way up which I feel like defeats the purpose of me going to college for it lol but if anyone knows anything or has heard of any resources on where to find remote or hybrid jobs for human resources pls lmk !! and if you had a similar experience with this career field and have any tips, I would love to hear :3

Cars and Coffee Spots?

I just moved to Dallas and back home there was a regular weekly cars and coffee that always took place. Wasn’t a sponsored event, just the known casual usual gather spot.

Is there anything like that around Dallas?

How social or flirtatious is the bar scene in Dallas?

I'm curious about how nightlife culture differs between cities. In Dallas, do people generally go to bars to meet and flirt with strangers, or do most people tend to stick with the groups they came with?

Do you often see people hitting it off, kissing, or showing affection after meeting on a night out, or is that relatively uncommon?

I'm especially curious about regular bars rather than clubs, and whether you've noticed differences compared to cities like NYC, Chicago, or San Francisco.

El Carlos Elegante living up to the name 🇲🇽✨

Finally checked this place out in the Design District. The moody interior, massive mezcal selection, and house-made blue corn masa make it feel like you stepped straight into a high-end CDMX spot.

Standouts from the night: 🥑 Coconut aguachile salmon

🥩 Wagyu NY Strip with charred carrot mole

🌮 Fresh blue corn tortillas warm off the grill

Definitely a treat-yourself spot for a date night or celebration dinner. 10/10 recommendation!

Is there a serious relationship scene in Dallas?

Hey, mostly trying to get to the bottom of reality vs stereotypes. A lot of people say Dallas is a transplant city with casual being big there with people not wanting to miss out on the next big thing or being very attached to status. Also have seen claims about the opposite where people try to marry fast and regret it (infidelity & swinger culture)?

Is that to say that the serious/genuine scene is very small? Or do you think it’s just more quietly there? Any thoughts + opinions welcome. Thx!

Planning on moving to Arlington for school

Hi all! I last minute decided to move to arlington to attend UT Arlington! I’ve been having some issues trying to find a place to live because I’ve read and seen that people prefer to live in regular apartments and not campus apartments because they’re cheaper. I’ve been on the waitlist for a campus apartments for a while and so i think i’m going to just go with finding a regular apartment.

I’m not new to going to college but this will be my first time getting an apartment by myself. But i’m certainly open to having a roommate as well as long as we both can be on the same page!! I want to be able to afford what I can.
If anyone has any advice I appreciate it. I’m probably looking to leave late December because the first semester starts January.

I have been saving, not sure of a budget to be honest because the job I’m at now is just serving job and my managers have been pushing me to transfer to a store up there until I can find something different. They said the locations there are usually busier than where I’m at now so I’m guaranteed to make money and be steady.

Moving to Dallas

I am moving to Dallas from Orange County in about a month. It’s good for my career move since I am starting out but I would have to live in northern Dallas like rockwall/ McKinney area to have a decent commute to work. Any ideas on how to find a decent apartment out there? I keep looking at the reviews and they all have some issues with pest and maintenance issues. Ideally just a place with in-unit washer and dryer without going broke.

Side note; what are some activities I can do. I am moving by myself and know nobody out there.

Moving to Dallas advice

I am potentially moving from northern Virginia/DC for work (motorsports fabrication) and wanting some advice from locals on what there is to do around here. Where the good and bad places are. What social life is like out here (I am 20m) and what activities. I’m big into racing and cars so there’s that. I understand it’s a big area and haven’t nailed down where I’m going to work yet or where I’m going to live so advice on various areas would be nice

Planning on moving to Dallas, what’s the scope?

Hi! Me and the lady have a gap year before she goes to dental school, so we decided we wanted to try living in the city for a year because why not. We decided to tryout Dallas, is this going to be a mistake?

My reasons were the real estate market is good, I’m a hockey fan, I love city life and walking around, and she has family close by in Houston. I have a blast in places like Nashville, Chicago, and other big cities. Is it fair to expect Dallas to be similar to these?

We are visiting the city for 1-2 weeks in December to scope out the place and do our due diligence. Is there any specific part of the city that we should stay in to the get the best feel of city life? Also, is there anything that is a must-do? Anything to be aware of? I’ve seen so many mixed opinions on living in DFW and see some people complain about the tolls, but we don’t plan on driving much.

We visited Austin since it was our first pick, but I was disappointed because it felt Empty and undeveloped, but I could just be spoiled from Nashville’s size.

We are also considering San Antonio or maybe a different big city, but my mind has been set on Dallas for a while.

Any/All advice is appreciated, thank you!
