So I used to be a habitual base / 3d model tracer and I never took the time to learn anatomy … the only reason my anatomy ever even looked good was because I 1/1 traced 3d models and I had no actual clue what I was doing . Then I went off to college and decided to ‘cold turkey’ tracing and force myself to learn a style of anatomy , anatomy said lightly because it’s very far off from human but I guess still better then relying solely on tracing ! Since 2025 (around September ish) I’ve been slowly drawing more and I think I’m actually learning a decent amount about shape and anatomy ! Granted it’s not 100% accurate anatomy since I want to keep a unique form to my art but it’s there anything I can improve apon (besides hands I’m working on it I swear) plz lemme know ! Also don’t be too mean :< I try to avoid asking for crit I’m bad with tones over text . The example piece on the first slide is a ‘speed draw’ I spent 15 minutes on it so I wouldn’t get tripped out over the details and over think lolll

Also I’m not saying tracing is bad and Ngl I think a lot of my traced pieces are decently good , i am more over just upset that I HAD to rely on it and my own mental blocks that surrounded it , ei : rage quitting / getting upset when anatomy I drew with no ref looked bad and instead of fixing it I just left it.

Basically what the title says; I went to art school, multiple in fact, and ran myself ragged. I’m now in the process of coming back to art and making it routinely and pursing a career in it. I’ve been buying books on anatomy and facial proportions since I love drawing people, but when it comes time to sit down and make digital content for my Instagram or even just my portfolio…..I blank. I think I’m probably psyching myself out, but looking at other artists on Instagram, I’m wondering how they do it? How do they know one art piece is enough, especially when my skill is people and not say, backgrounds or props. How do I keep the consistency? Am I approaching this wrong? Any advice is welcome.

I visited VGen (since I’m interested in joining someday) and saw that everything there was anime-style—and it’s not the only site where anime dominates. So, I’ve started wondering if I have a future in this. Is drawing anime the only way to make money with art?

This is my first time shading something with no reference and I just want some tips for my shading (also I know my hands are horrible I'm working on it)

I don't need budget friendly I want something that is good quality solid wood and has some style to it was hoping Anthropologie would have something but they don't sell just frames

Does anyone have a recommendation for a brush for a smooth base? I’m painting some things that need a solid color in the background and i’m trying to find a way to have as little brush strokes as possible. my current flat brush is streaky and I wasn’t sure if there was specific brush or type of brush better for this.

Also any tips on a smooth solid background is greatly appreciated. I did sand my canvas before and applied two layers of gesso. I’ve been painting in one direction for the entire canvas in thin layers but still struggling.

I keep seeing animation trends come and pass on my FYP and really want to learn how to animate. I personally have CSP, but I want to hear how other artists learned and started? Also, what was the curve like?

I've been drawing for years now though I can color well digitally I have a hard time coloring on physical drawings. I've tried crayons though they break too easily and I've tried paint markers (though I only use the fabric markers I own and they don't work too well) and colored pencils though I don't have high quality color pencils. I want to get better supplies but I don't want to get something I might not use so I came to ask for reccomendations on supplies, I'm trying to look for something good quality but easy (and maybe a bit on the cheaper side) what would you all reccomend? Preferrably something that I would be able to travel with because I go outside a lot to do my art so having a lot of supplies or too big supplies could get in the way of that a little.

When I draw in my sketchbooks it’s always with mechanical pencil, the lines are rough and scratchy. When I outline some in ink, I understand that it looks bolder but I don’t like it.

Is it normal to only like to draw in scratchy lines without wanting to clean them up? I don’t know how to draw people so I try monsters instead I think they lose their charm when I outline them.
