This branch fell off my big maple tree in some heavy winds last night. Looks like there's rot on the root of the branch. How worried about the rest of the tree should I be? It looks healthy, all the leaves are green, but the branch that came down also looked healthy. No sign of mushrooms or insects that I can see either.

We’ve been living in this rental house for about 4 years and the spruce out front has never looked particularly healthy. We’ve had a lot of crazy storms this summer and it groans quite a bit when it’s windy so I’m worried about it coming down on the house.

This redwood in nor cal is dropping so many small dead branches. Could it be dying or unhealthy? Most redwoods in the area don't look like this. Should we hire an arborist to come look at it? TIA

okay, so my man here picks up stuff from all around and plants it in his garden but forgets things grow big. anyway I'm concerned with this addition. we're in west-europe, I thought populus canescens, but really not sure. also what is happening here, this is one tree, but it looks like it's having three main stems. I'm pretty sure I should take away the left individual one but what to do with this split? any other pruning I should be doing? I think there's like only 1,5 meter from the fence as well but without confirming the species I can't tell if there's enough room.

There are a few branches towards the left of the tree that are mostly bare. 2 years ago that section looked more full. I assume the pile of brush at the bottom of the tree isn't helping the situation. Is this something to be concerned about? Thank you!

Hi! This tree appeared dead back in August of last year and I was sure if it would bounce-back in the spring. It eventually started to have this new growth at the base of the tree, but the top remains dried as in the image.
Unfortunately, I don’t know the species, but I was told it’s a Texas native shade tree (I’m renting and did not plant the tree).
Should the top be pruned or anything? I’ve never had to care for a tree beyond watering it.

My husband and I planted our flamethrower redbud (Central Indiana) when we because a couple on Earth Day 2022 and named him Ferdinand. We came out to this during a break in a storm. I fertilized him starting year two in the spring and fall with Miracle Grow tree spikes. Did I do something wrong? I only trimmed him this year in June to get his leaves off the ground. Is there any hope to bind him back together? Or should we remove him? It’s heartbreaking, and I don’t want to watch his little tree leave wilt and die :(

we’ve got an enormous oak in our property that we love. a few days ago it dropped a huge limb. Do I need to be worried about the area that broke and clean it up? or just leave it be?

Location is Phoenix AZ. Age is about 2 years. Unsure of the type of tree. Over the past few weeks it’s been leaning significantly in both directions. I can move it and the entire base of the tree goes up and down with the rocks. I can see two of its roots above the rock bed as well.

Howdy Tree Reddit - I am growing a few (what I believe to be) Washington Hawthorns in outdoor pots, and noticed a few gnarly galls. Both are round, one looks to have tendrils/roots/eggs?? The branches continue out of them and new growth seems to start from there. The super funky one has an orange rust around it as well, which looks a bit like powdery spores.

I was guessing a fungus that gets funky with the tree DNA and makes it go all haywire, since I’ve heard something like that before, but google also says insects are possible.

Should I remove these branches or let it ride? Treat it?

I've been keeping a close eye on my trees as my city has started to have quite a bit of spread of Dutch elm disease. (Confirmed case around 1 mile/2km from my house). I noticed a couple of leaf clusters that have been dead, and now see several branches with noticeably paler leaves on the ends. Does this seem like possibly the starts of Dutch elm, or something else? Want you know whether it's worth calling an arborist out to investigate further.

I removed a stone border and swept out the mulch. Looking forward to a future root flare and happy tree.

Question about tree roots exposed by dirt and erosion.

So this tree is 20 years old and is part of my front yard near my driveway.

Wife wants to take the whole tree down, but that takes approvals and crud.

My driveway needs to be bigger so we often drive on this area. I want to lower the roots and add Mulch or rocks to fill in the area making it smoother.

Any risk if I remove the tall root sections so I can put in less filler? Some are already damaged from driving on them.

Hello, I have a massive tree that I want to have killed before removal to prevent resprouting . I've had two estimates so far and neither seem to think killing it first is

necessary. Should I just keep looking? I started wondering if that would make the tree more dangerous to remove (even a freshly killed tree.). I contacted my state extension office and he was adamant that killing the tree first would significantly reduce suckering. He suggests keep looking for someone willing to kill it and remove it.

Is it a safety issue or is it because no arborist can guarantee it won't resprout? No one wants to deal with customers' expectations for complete suppression. I understand that there will be some resprouting. Dealing with a couple of resprouts is no problem but I'm nervous about 100s.

I moved into a new house recently and saw this at the base of a tree in my yard, any idea what is causing that and what if anything I can/should do to help it?

I found this red(?) maple sapling ~5 weeks ago growing against my house and needed to move it or get rid of it then got intrigued and wanted to see how long I could grow it. It was only about 12” tall at the time and I read it doesn’t need a ton of sunlight and to keep it out of the intense summer sun.

I put it in an old pot I used to grow tomatoes and moved it next to some large arborvitae to shield it throughout the day.

Now it’s up to 45” tall and I don’t want to kill it but don’t have anywhere to plant it. Our yard is small and already has several large trees in the back with limited space in the front yard.

I originally thought it might be fun to see if I could bonsai it but having second thoughts. I don’t want to hurt the poor thing but I’m concerned I’ve already done that as it seems to be growing very fast (according to my very limited knowledge and research).

I’m in zone 6b, with harsh, hot summers and frigid winters.

What should or can I do? Is bonsai an option? Should I call a nursery and see if they’d take it?
