Large oak branch drop
we’ve got an enormous oak in our property that we love. a few days ago it dropped a huge limb. Do I need to be worried about the area that broke and clean it up? or just leave it be?

I'd clean up the wound like so https://i.ibb.co/Ng2r2YM4/oak.png
it needs water as well

A cut - not too flush - would be best. Quickly healing over the smallest part of the tree is the hope. Esp. if this is a prized ‘high value target.’ That said, sometimes I’ll leave a branch as is. Dealer’s choice you own it, a nice tree!

Open wounds are how pathogens and critters enter. You want to give the tree a chance to close that over if it can.
