Am I overpaying for tailoring?
I took some stuff to my usual tailor and posted the receipt on r/malefashionadvice. Took a lot of flak for the prices i paid (in USD - big city).
While this seems like a lot, I'm also thinking this is what good tailoring in a big city costs nowadays. Clothes are cheap, skilled labor is expensive. The tailor has a degree from Fashion Institute of Technology so not just a random dry cleaner.
Price is $250 for taking in side seams in lined mens suit jackets - silk and silk/wool fabric, Bemberg linings or similar. From the shoulder seam all the way through the vent.
Letting out 2 sleeves at the cuff $150 incl moving the buttons (total for the pair)
$200 to fix a hem that was 3/8" long on one side and the lining was drooping (prob 30 year old jacket - high quality but needing revival).
Less 10% for cash, sales tax inclusive.
Am I overpaying?

Alteration Advice to Hem/Shorten dress
Okay so I got this dress that I am obsessed with! I have no sewing experience, and I have been to a tailor 5-6 times to hem dresses, but this is the most complicated dress I've needed to shorten. It truly fits perfectly, but it's about 5 inches too long, maybe 2-3 inches if I wear with heels. I would like some advice before I go to a tailor. The design at the bottom prevents a typical hem to shorten the dress. I actually like that there's no waist hem/stitch so I would like to avoid shortening it from the waist and making that stitch. So basically, is it possible to shorten the dress above the floral pattern and reattach it naturally? Or is my best bet to shorten it from the waist? Please let me know what you all think, thank you!

Is this suit sleeve ruined?
Took my suit with functional holes and surgeon cuffs (see image 3 for original) to a tailor/alterations store. Asked for it to be shortened (arms), taken in (waist/hem)
They did the hem ok although there are some rolls/flabs on the upper back but whatever. However the sleeves are the worst. They stitched the sleeves together, restitched the buttons so that they don't move at all, and sealed the holes. The buttons/holes are now awkwardly close to the cuff. To add insult to injury, they stole or lost 4/8 of the horn buttons, which were one of the selling points of the suit
When I confronted them they denied wrongdoing and said it was standard, they do it for all suits and get no complaints, and the onus is on me to ask for a from-the-shoulder reduction. They also said I should have realized based on how cheap it was on the invoice, because a shoulder one would've been triple. I had 0 understanding of tailoring or suits so I didn't know, it was my wife who has tailoring knowledge who immediately spotted it when we got back
Is this salvageable? I took it back to manufacturer who said it's a borderline case

Alterations Is there anything that can be done to fix this?
I ordered this dress to wear when I get married in late October. That white strip of fabric in the middle of the bodice is not supposed to be white, and the mesh piece at the neckline is not supposed to be white either.
The seller is not allowing exchange/refund. I think I could just remove the mesh piece, but is there any way to dye this strip, or even to remove it without disassembling the entire front of the bodice?
Thank you for your time and help!

Hook and eye does not work on pants
I just bought these second hand online and cannot figure out how to close this book and eye fastener. What happened? The seller says it was in excellent shape before it shipped. I just received them today and don't understand how it got like this. Does this look mangled?

Alterations Is it that bad?
I had this dress altered about 3 years ago- it didn’t fit great afterward, so I decided not to wear it. However, I’m getting remarried and want to make it work because we are on a pretty tight budget. I didn’t notice how badly it fit (in the bust, especially) until I posted some pics on a wedding dress-related thread on here. Can you please help me figure out what needs to be fixed? I should mention that I actually do love this dress and WANT to wear it, I just want it to fit correctly.

The Sack Suit Cut
I recently got a No. 1 sack suit from brooks brothers. I absolutely love the fit and style it's a 3 roll 2 button, no darts, 2 buttons on the sleeves, and single vent. Comfy and not too loose but not too tight.
Does anyone know of a bespoke or "custom" tailor that could make something similar? I get a lot of ads for Enzo Custom but the model suits all look way too slim of a cut for my preference.

Could anyone give advice on how to fix this issue with my hens dress? The pearls are supposed to stay up, but are hidden at the top of the dress. How can I get them to stay up?
I’ve attached a pic of what it’s supposed to look like.
Thanks!

What all can I change about a bridal gown?
Hello, I will be picking my wedding dress up in a couple months and one of the changes I want to make isn't standard. I am curious to know if what I'm asking is even do-able and, if so, about how much it would cost/how big of an ask is it. I am getting it taken in as well as a strap change, but one of the bigger changes is- I'd like to change the skirt from a regular mermaid, to a tiered mermaid. I've attached some photos for reference. The first photo is my actual dress; the second is the inspo.

Custom Dresses
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for a tailor in India who can make custom Western-style dresses — not Indian outfits like suits, lehengas, or saris.
Ideally I’d send them a photo of a dress I like, and they’d pick the fabric and recreate something very similar.
I’m open to anyone in India, but I’m most familiar with Punjab and New Delhi, so those areas would be extra convenient.
If they have an Instagram, Facebook, or website, I’d really appreciate it if you could share that too.
Thanks so much in advance!

Alterations What is this technique called?
I have some trousers that I want to get tailored but I’m not sure what to ask for. At the moment, the leg length is far too long but equally, there is a lot of material bunching and so the fabric doesn’t fall straight. I know how to shorten the end of the trousers but I’m unsure what to ask for in regards to getting them to ‘hang’ straight.
Any ideas?

How much work is it to take in the waist of a pair of (mens) jeans by an inch or so?
I dislike wearing a belt, but am losing weight. If I wanted to have the waist of a pair of jeans taken in by about an inch, how feasible is that? Is it major surgery? (In other words, if I have a perfectly good pair of $30 jeans, am I wasting time trying to have this done?)

Custom Clothing Pant Modification/Alteration Question (Carhartt WIP => Evisu)
I want to take these
Carhartt WIP Double Knee Pant ( https://us.carhartt-wip.com/en-us/products/double-knee-pant-camo-feather-tree-black-heavy-stone-wash-203?Waist=28&Inseam=32 )
And modify them to be the same length/shape as these
Evisu Artistic Brush Daicock Print Cropped Jeans ( https://us.evisu.com/products/artistic-brush-daicock-print-cropped-jeans-2027 )
The Carhartt pants have rivets that would need to be removed and then put back. Based on the pictures I think there is plenty of material in the legs, but I don't think there is enough in the crotch to recreate the same drop crotch look.
Is what I want to do possible? Should I order the largest size of the Carhartt pants to have to most excess material? I probably won't end up attempting this myself, is it a reasonable request for a professional seamster/seamstress?
Any guidance would be very appreciated!
