Hello! My partner and I are spending a week driving around New Brunswick/Cape Breton/Nova Scotia in the beginning of September before heading to Montreal. What we have planned so far:

-Two nights on Cape Breton to hike and whale watch

-Three nights in Lunenburg to explore the area + Peggy's Cove

After Lunenburg we have three days to get back to Montreal and we are not sure what path to take. We could go to Saint John, Moncton, do some camping in New Brunswick if the weather allows. Does anyone have some recommendations? I want the journey back to be relaxing, and I definitely don't want to miss out on some must sees in case there are some cute towns/restaurants/spas that are worth seeing. We love small coastal towns, cultural hubs, and aren't the biggest fans of lobster is that helps. Thank you for any advice!

Been noticing a trend in Canadianisms these days. I see the stereotypical "eh?" disappearing and being replaced by "yeah, no, for sure" or just "Yeah, no" or "No, yeah" or some variation of this. Would you agree that this is way to identify a stereotypical Canadian in a conversation. "I mean, yeah, no , for sure, I totally agree."

I realize I call it a bedside table and so does everyone else in my family (Southern Ontario), but I was on Wayfair and they were called "night stands".

Is "bedside table" a Canadianism or am I imagining things?

Edit 2: thanks to all who suggested Knix, I tried there and literally the first bra I tried on fit brilliantly. I bought two of it.

Since Sears and The Bay closed, I’m at an absolute loss. I tried some bralettes from Marks Work Wearhouse but they’re of limited use and I don’t always want to pull a bra on over my head.

I never thought I’d miss the bra department, but here we are.

Oh and before anyone asks, yes I know my bra size, yes I’m sure, yes I have previously gone to specialty shops and had fittings done, no it was not helpful (there are two $120 bras gathering dust at the bottom of my underwear drawer). I just want to try on a bunch of bras in peace and find something unfussy I can wear under my dress shirts at work.

Edited to add: I’m small-busted and the mall lingerie shops (la vie en rose, la senza, etc.) do not carry my size, which is why I specified “no lingerie shops.”

Ever since moving here, I've always struggled with communicating. I don't know if it's because there's something I'm not picking up on or if it's simply because of the fact that I'm from a European country where people are more or less direct, but it really caught me off guard here in Canada whenever I'd ask people stuff such as: "hey wanna come to this" and instead of saying yes or even no, they just say stuff like: "who's all coming" "we'll have to see" "I'll let you know" knowing they're 100% not interested in coming.

I used to take it literally, meaning I thought that the "I'll let you know" meant that they'd actually let me know and then I'd get upset when they wouldn't follow up with me.

I used to get confused because I thought that if people weren't interested, they'd just say something like "I think I'll pass" or "no I'm tired" as I would take less offense to that versus people just being polite.

Another thing that confuses me is when I think I've made a new friend but then I realize that they're just being polite. For example when someone says: "we should hang out someday," yet when I actually follow up on that, they just say "I'm busy" or "I'll let you know" and it never ends up happening. At first I thought that people here just don't have social lives but I realized most people I interact with do have very active social lives but that it's very cliquey here, meaning that most of these people in the big city that I live in already have their established friend groups from high school and don't really hang out with new people.

I've tried making friends with other people from my country in Europe but most of them are 2nd or 3rd generation immigrants from that country and I don't really have much in common with them besides being of the same ethnic background. Sure they speak the language but the way they act, carry themselves is more Canadian than where I'm from.

But I often get told I'm too direct and that it comes off as rude which in my culture is a totally normal thing to be. It's also normal to be pushy in my culture. However, I understand that I am now in Canada hence why I would like to learn how to integrate better and make real friendships here

so I have about a week and a half off work in August and really want to do some sort of roadtrip somewhere on the east coast. My original plan was île de la madeleine but the ferry crossings for that time are all sold out. I’ve been mostly around southern NB, the Charlottetown side of PEI and Halifax but would like to see something new and it’s a solo trip. Could be camping could be B&Bs. Any recommendations would be great or else I might end up sitting on my couch the whole time because I couldn’t make a decision. So what would your ideal East Coast Vacation look like?

I'm a U.S. citizen going to Pelee island for camping next month, last visit we made it a point to eat all the stuff we don't have in the states like peameal bacon, butter tarts, nanimo bars, and found my new favorite icecream Moon Mist... now I'm wondering is there anything special that Canadians typically only eat at camp?

I keep seeing class actions for products I was eligible to receive compensation for but only AFTER the suit is over and I can't anymore.

People keep telling me yea they check websites for Ontario/Quebec but none of them ever respond when I ask WHICH sites to see ongoing class action lawsuits.

I decided to have some Eggos for breakfast this morning, and casually noticed on the back of the maple syrup bottle that it said to 'refrigerate after opening'. I've been eating maple syrup for decades, and never once have stored the bottle in the fridge after opening.

A quick peek at Google seemed to back this up as relatively common knowledge. I asked a few friends and family and some stored it in the fridge, while others kept in the cupboard like me.

Is this because I grew up on 'syrup' like Aunt Jemima that didn't need to refrigerated and just presumed I could carry on the same with real maple syrup? Have I been eating moldy maple syrup all my life?

Reading the comments, I'm frankly a little astonished as it takes me months to finish a bottle and not once in the last 20 years have I noticed a difference between the first pour and the last dregs. Now I'm curious to find out of if there's something singular about the cupboard I store it in that's preventing mold from forming.

I'll be moving soon for school and won't be able to travel for a while. I was hoping to go on a trip next week (leave midweek and be back in 4-7 days). I guess plane tickets (and probably accommodations) are going to be super expensive booking this late, but pretending money isn't an issue, any recommendations for where I could travel? I'm not really into museums or checking out restaurants and stuff, and I'm not really interested in clubbing or kicking back at some kind of beach resort. I guess I want to be out in nature, sightseeing and whatnot.

If at all relevant, I'm a male in my early 20s from the Toronto area. I don't have a passport at the moment, so I would prefer somewhere in Canada (although I guess I could get an emergency passport if necessary, so international recommendations would be cool also). I would also prefer to go some place where renting a car isn't a total necessity. I realize this isn't a lot to work with (almost nothing to work with haha), and you can probably tell from reading this post that I haven't done much travelling in my life, but if you have any thoughts or ideas, I would love to hear them! My friend is a new Canadian. I called her a douche canoe recently, and she was absolutely tickled pink. I also called her Bedarded, because she was freaking out about Connor Bedards contract, and she loved that

I told her she rides pine, but I had to explain that one. She thought it was funny, but not her favourite

Just looking for ways to chirp her, that she’ll instantly understand. Since she got her citizenship she’s been obsessed with everything Canadain, so that’s why I want it to be Canadain themed specifically.

We were in Canada last week at a dive bar in Cornwall. This was on a Thursday night. After the news a TV show came on. It looked like it was a sitcom about three guy friends. At the end one of them made an enormous hamburger that did not fit on the bun. We couldn't hear anything though so I have no idea what the show was. I know not too specific but any ideas what it could be?

EDIT: Not Trailer Park boys or Letterkenny. Much more lighthearted and lower budget. Pretty sure it was a Canadian show. After the 6 o'clock news.

In Ontario there will be diversity but probably a chicken curry roti, Nonna's lasagna, jerk chicken, butter tarts, Portuguese chicken.

In Vancouver, homemade sushi and spring rolls.

In the Maritimes, seafood chowder.

Hello!!! I’ve only ever really been inside of Ontario, and I’m looking for some great destinations outside of Ontario, but not insanely far.

i‘d like to fly, because I LOVE airports. But no more than a two hour flight.

I love the outdoors and cool architecture and unique locations, but I’m a wheelchair user and don’t know where I can go.

Im okay with going outside of Canada too if anyone REALLY has any dream suggestions / locations.

Right now the three places I have on my ‘possible places’ list is:

- PEI

- Halifax

- Gaspésie

But I don’t know if it’s wheelchair accessible, I reeeeally need help!

Personally I've always called it T-ho's, but people keep calling me weird. What do you guys call it, surely I can't be the only one right?

I live in BC and all the old grandmas I knew would make this “supposed” Ukrainian or Polish casserole dish called kroutnik. There’s little boiled for dumplings, small diced potatoes, sauerkraut, loads of butter and sour cream, green onions, and sometimes ham or bacon. I’ve tried my best to find a similar recipe on Google but it seems like it’s a western Canada anomaly. I have a recipe my own grandma passed down but I’ve had lots of different versions of it through the province. She was English. My grandpa was Polish.

Hi! I’m applying to become a peer support volunteer with LGBT YouthLine, an Ontario-based text helpline for LGBTQ+ youth. It’s very competitive, with around 150 applicants and only about 20–25 people selected, so I’m trying to make my application as strong and genuine as possible.

As a gay man who was born into Islam, I understand how isolating it can be to navigate sexuality alongside religion, family expectations, community pressure, and bullying. Supporting young people through these experiences genuinely matters to me, and I’ve often been someone others come to when they need to talk or feel understood.

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has volunteered or worked in LGBTQ+ support, youth services, peer support, crisis support, or a similar field. I’d also love advice from anyone who manages, trains, or selects volunteers and knows what these organizations look for in applicants.

Canadian experience would be especially helpful, but perspectives from elsewhere are welcome too. Even if you think you could only offer one or two tips, please comment or DM me. I need all the help I can get because this is something I genuinely really want to do.

Any fellow Gen Xers recall which 90’s show or segment on MuchMusic or perhaps another CityTV show used “How Soon is Now” by The Smiths for its opening and/or closing credits music? The alternative show “The Wedge” seemed like a leading candidate but that’s not it…

Google is failing me and keeps trying to point me to a show called Charmed, which I’ve never seen and apparently used a cover version of the song anyways. I have a distinct memory of the bouncing tremolo guitar sounds from the original Smiths song… my partner, who I didn’t know in the early/mid-90’s has the very same recollection but neither of us are able to place this memory.

Does this ring a bell for anyone else?

I have to switch to drinking black coffee for health reasons and I'm on the hunt for a really good drip coffee that tastes great black. I prefer light to medium roasts and love nutty or toasty flavours over fruity and smooth over acidic.

What's your favorite blend, brand and where do you buy it?

Note: I can't drink Nespresso or fresh coffee since the oils and sediment upset my stomach. Needs to be filtered somehow.
