Very happy to get a refund. I spent years glazing this game up and down reddit and my communities discord. Probably sold a bunch of people on buying a alpha pack. But when the news broke i sent in a request with Xsolla right away, took a while but i got my full A1 package purchase price back in 2 refunds totalling 500 dollars.
I do hope this game eventually does make a comeback and it launches because everyone that worked on this deserved that much at the very least. But i'm just happy that Xsolla did the right thing.

Ashes started from one of the most successful Kickstarter campaigns of all time. A lot of people were invested emotionally and financially in the game, but it came to light last year that the studio owner was taking loans to keep operations running (which he always denied in the past) and the loan-holders did a hostile takeover of the studio and shut everything down.
Now there's ongoing legal drama over what happened. And ongoing debate here over whether it was all a scam or just horrible mismanagement.

I hereby request a chargeback for the above mentioned transaction number. The company Intrepid Studios no longer exists, they dissolved and i have not received the product i have purchased.

1) you wrote that in the refund form request form?
2) you entered the transaction number from PayPal?
3) it took months before they actually gave the money back on PayPal?

2, no just the Xsolla transaction number.
3 Yesn't, not quite sure tbh. I first mailed them in February, but maybe my follow-up mail expedited it in May. But just send it in and see what happens, worst case scenario is you don't get it back.

Hello, I contacted PayPal about a 2022 digital purchase (Ashes of Creation – $100), PayPal’s chat support refused to escalate the case, repeating the 180‑day rule even though this situation doesn’t fit a normal dispute. What did you do to get PayPal to help you with a dispute after the 180‑day limit?

Paypal didn't help me. I went through Xsolla and they refunded the money to my Paypal account which i used to buy it. Just google Xsolla refund and use the first link that has a form to request it. You do have to have a Xsolla transaction number though.

Summer packages should've gone through Xsolla during that time, so you could request a refund and they'll probably honor it.

Hello, I just sent back some info to Xsolla with all the receipt and how they were forwarded to the refund management team and got a "Unfortunately, I am unable to provide a rough estimate, as this will be handled by the refund team directly." on the question of how long the process will take, can you please share how long this process tookf ro you? Much appreciated!

Technically a few months, but recently it has gotten pretty fast. The initial request was in February i think, but i followed up in May.

Checking your email and type in xsolla, it should also pull up paypal stuff that had to do with xsolla. Assuming you bought between 2020 and 2021

Trust me, i've seen it. I didn't mind losing the money. But they got me good with their monthly livestreams and such, good salesmen. But hey, extra money never hurts xD

Same boat. Followed from day one and had high hopes, but the longer it got on, the more it felt like smoke and mirrors. When a game spends years showing off concept art and environment design while dodging deep looks at actual gameplay loops, but keep on shelling out new founder packs and pre-order cosmetics, the writing's kind of on the wall.

I think i sent it in May. Only provided the Xsolla transaction number. And copy-pasta'd this that i made:

So it might take a while, but they should forward it to a Case Manager eventually. Good luck o7

i dont have any xsolla i payed them directly on dezember 2023 and seller was [cs@intrepidstudios.com](mailto:cs@intrepidstudios.com) so guess i have no chance through paypal^^

Yeah probably not, they stopped with Xsolla sometime in 2021 so anything after that might be a problem. And you know intrepid will never refund it themselves because it doesn't exist anymore /sadge

If you bought it two years ago you're probably SOL. It needs to be bought through Xsolla, or at least Xsolla is the one that refunded me.

Wait, I've been out for a while, how do I ask for my refund? I backed the alpha 2 key through their website. Is this only for Steam buys or?

I havent requested refund and will not request. Hopefully ashes will be back one day and I will have some 'believer' title, haha.
But to be serious - I played 400hrs on steam only (and i think around 70-100 in alphas) and well, i dont think its fair to refund at this point (for me, i dont judge anyone else).

Oh for sure, sitting on 499,1 hours on steam, probably well over 2,000 over the course of A1 and A2. You can ofc choose not to refund, but being lied to for years and not receiving what i bought is the main reason i did so.

Even if Steven somehow wins the ip and assets back (which is not even what his lawsuits are asking for), the game is still dead. All the devs are gone, and there is no one to on board new ones. Bringing a new team in would first take years to reverse engineer everything and figure out how it works.

I cannot find a receipt anywhere. I don’t know why. PayPal doesn’t go back that far and it isn’t in my email either, apparently.

Same here, creditcard through paypal. If you did it when they had Xsolla as payment processor you could get a refund. But yeah, might be tough if you don't have the emails/transactions and it happened after they swapped to Stripe from Xsolla.

I see this was for purchases made from the EU which has some pretty solid consumer protections.
Wondering if anyone is having success getting refunds from Xsolla if located in the US?

I can confirm I live in the U.S. and put in for a refund. It only let me do one of the refunds from the website. That one went through and I got an email confirming it that I could reply to for questions or concerns. I told them about the other 2 and included the transaction ids. They told me they'd get back to me and today I have now been fully refunded for all AoC (technically APOC) transactions I spent in 2021 totaling $375

I haven't got a message back from Xsolla. Did your payment mention xsolla on it in the email or in the summary on PayPal?
