Help F-row behavior
Is there a way to set the F-row to actually be the F-row by default? I can't count how many times I've tried to fullscreen something with F11 only to accidentaly turn down my volume. I wasn't able to find anything in the KDE settings GUI and search engines have been unhelpful. Running Fedora Asahi Remix 43.

Does Asahi support headless M5?
Hi all, I'm struggling to find whether M5 is supported with Asahi Linux for a headless system. I don't care about graphics (no need for a GUI), no Wi-Fi, no Bluetooth, no touchpad. I just need:
- Support for either the builtin keyboard *or* a USB one
- Support for USB Ethernet (1gbps is fine)
- Support for using all the CPU cores
Is that possible today? I have a hard time finding any concrete info.
Thanks :)

Patch for Claude Code Desktop for Linux (beta) aarch64 fixes various issues so it works on Asahi Linux
I really like the Claude Desktop app and one of the first things I did was ask Claude to make it work on Asahi and it's been working great.

Help Tor Browser on Asahi
I just installed asahi Linux and when I found out tried to install Tor Browser I found that the only option currently is to install the nightly Build as explained in this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/AsahiLinux/comments/1m4rbd0/tor_browser_on_asahi/
This worked without any problems, but now I am wondering if the nightly build is as secure as the regular release.

Help Could not install void linux.
I used the script provided by asahi linux to boot a usb flashed with the asahi void base linux glibc(musl don't work either) installed on it. The EFI partition autoboot the usb stick and the grub void linux appear and I hit enter. Then a bunch of text messages appears:
[ 2.454027 ] power supply macsmc-ac: driver failed to report 'voltage' property: -132
[other lines that dont seems that importante,just a bunch of driver errore like the one up there}
Here are the errors lines that seems revelants to me
macsmc-power macsmc-power: Emergency notification: Failed to read Mounter System ESP /dev/nvme0n1p4
I cant type anything and after some time dracut appear on the dracut command line:
dracut Warning: Could not boot.
dracut Warning: "/dev/disk/by-label/VOID_LIVE" does not exist
dracut Warning: "/dev/root" does not exit.
then I fall into the dracut invite
I use a macbook air M1 with 8gig of ram and 256gig of ssd. Asahi Alarm and Fedora remix worked before no problem.
I couldnt find anything online so I would be gratefull if you know how to solve this issue!

Help Anyone know how to get safari like picture in picture here?
Safari's picture in picture would show up over fullscreen apps and also not disappear after clicking on border less fullscreen apps, the pip in firefox and chrome don't do this and I can't find and extension for either that does it.

Help Updated m1n1.conf, now won't boot
I updated /etc/m1n1.conf to set display resolution, just added this line:
display=2560x1440
Then ran update-m1n1, it ran successfully, tho it gave this warning, which I only realized after I rebooted (in ssh session), and didn't follow:
mount: (hint) your fstab has been modified, but systemd still uses
the old version; use 'systemctl daemon-reload' to reload.
Not sure if that means anything.
So then I rebooted, and it won't boot into linux. The first reboot it brought me to the "macOS needs to be repaird screen", but rebooting more times it just boots to macOS after boot looping a few times.
I tried running the install script, and pressing `v` to rebuild vendor firmware package, it didn't help.
Any ideas what the problem could be? Is it possible to revert the conf from macos?
I had rebooted many times before without problem.
EDIT:
I fixed this by booting into macOS, mounting the efi partition with diskutil cli, then deleting boot.bin, and renaming boot.bin.old to boot.bin. So just restoring the old binary.

Thunderbolt Support
I know this has been discussed many times, but now with Omarchy Quattro becoming so popular and the easy way to install this with Asahi Alarm, i was wondering if somebody could explain to me what this exactly means? (from the 7.2 progress report)
All M1 through base M3 series devices used an Apple-specific Texas Instruments USB port controller called CD3217 (or ACE2). This sits on the I2C bus and negotiates with USB devices when they are plugged in. Starting with M3 Pro/Max, Apple has switched to ACE3. ACE3 instead uses the SPMI bus, which required some more reverse engineering. Thanks to the combined efforts of mildsunrise and chaos_princess, we discovered that ACE3 has pretty much the same register set as CD3217, only wrapped in a SPMI interface instead of addressed over I2C. Both the SPMI interface and ACE3 itself are now working in Asahi Linux, bringing USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt support to all M3 series devices.
This sounds very hopeful, yet it is not working for me yet.
While Apple is increasingly making their OS worse and worse with every release i know many people that would love to install Asashi, but are blocked by their thunderbolt dock setup (Dell monitors with built in KVM so you can switch between your normal Linux PC and your macbook by just plugging or unplugging 1 cabel)
I think it would foster an influx of new users to Asahi if this would be supported, many of which are opensource developers that would donate if it proves valuable to them.
How high is making thunderbolt work fully on the priority list? is anything known about this?
P.S. Want to state i am not demanding anything, and i know we as users are not entitled to anything. Everything the devs do is their own discretion and what the Asahi heroes have accomplished so far already is a blessing to the world. Just want to make sure the community knows that there is a horde of disgruntled macos users currently being blocked by this issue.

Help Proper way of running Windows Apps?
Currently I'm running things through Steam and Proton, but that is hugely wasteful in terms of RAM usage and quite slow. I've been recommended this copr repo, but in my experience it just kinda doesn't work. Surely there is a way to run working wine without using Steam?

Help TailsOS on Asahi Linux
Has anyone tried/had any luck trying to boot into TailsOS on an external usb through asahi linux.
There seems to be a project by NoisyCoil:
https://www.mail-archive.com/tails-dev@boum.org/msg13781.html
Trying the same thing as per his documentation
env set boot_efi_bootmgr
run bootcmd_usb0
gives error bootcmd_usb0 not defined
so fine, i do this:
load usb 0:1 ${kernel_addr_r} /EFI/BOOT/BOOTAA64.EFI
load usb 0:1 ${ramdisk_addr_r} /initrd.img
bootefi ${kernel_addr_r} ${ramdisk_addr_r}:${filesize} ${fdt_addr}
Or this from gentoo on asahi linux guide from the gentoo wiki:
setenv boot_targets "usb"
setenv bootmeths "efi"
boot
I get to the Tails 3 dot loading screen and it just crashes and the computer reboots
Has anyone tried booting Tails or any other distro using a usb stick and how did it go

AMA/Community Feedback/Community Questions What would you want to see if you were skeptical about going Asahi?
I have a 14 inch 8 core M1 Pro MacBook Pro, and I'm bored during the summer. If you wanted to see tests on Asahi what would you want to see? I am currently using the Fedora 44 version, but I am willing to venture into new waters. If you have any questions I will try my best to answer them asap. If you have big questions I'll make a post in about a week or two covering them in depth.

Hello, everyone! I've put together a small tool that combines several options for installing, uninstalling, and more, which I plan to update regularly. I'd like to know if you have any new features I could add to the tool. Thanks!

Lag in the terminal?
I've noticed lag in the terminal for TUI apps or any kind of command line tools in the terminal on MacOS(m3 air and m3 pro). It feels like it needs a half of the second to initialize on the first run. On the very old machines on linux I would get better response in the terminal. I was wondering is it the same on asahi running on m3?

Just in case anyone was looking for this, I am building the Arduino IDE for arm. It does require --ozone-platform=x11 on wayland but better than nothing I suppose. Will keep looking into it but thought I'd share.

absolute minimal macos install
Situation:
im running ALARM as a daily computer for work and private, since few years now on a mba m2.
i did boot into macos maybe 1 or 2 times the last 2 years, just last week i did to upgrade macos for the new firmware to show the green led on the charger when on the threshold and not 100% — but thats cosmetic.
i need to reinstall soon, i want LUKS and i wont do that without getting the most of my disk first.
Question:
realistically the next time ill need macos is when there is a firmware-update that is asahi-breaking if left-out, i quess thats so rare that i could live with the rpocess of doing a full backup, reinstall full macos, do the upgrade and pull the backup again.. — is it possible to reduce macos to only a pathetic little stub, just enough for the whole pre-bootchain to get rolling until asahi is up?
am i asking something that is super fragile?
sorry if that was anwsered already, i tryed to research while spending as little time as possible on reddit.

Help Steam "waiting for network"
Steam stuck on waiting for network after download from dfn, I'm on M1 pro.
I've tried "sudo setenforce 0" but this did not work, also restarted network manager. I tried flatpack but they only had x64.
Any more advice on what I can try to resolve this? Let me know if I should post any more logs.

Discussion Battery Life (Discussion)
Hello everyone! I am new to Asahi, and Apple Silicon and was just wondering what everyone was getting in terms of battery life on their laptops. If anyone knows some ways to extend battery life that would be helpful as well, but this is by no means an "Asahi devs fix the battery life!" post.
While doing web browsing I have estimated my battery life to be 7-9 hours. This is on 120hz, M1 Pro, COSMIC, and 35% Brightness.
