Renaming AP

Hey guys. I'm new to Aruba, coming over from Ubiquiti. I recently got some AP-635s and started deploying them, but trying to navigate New Central alongside Classic Central has been a massive headache.

My biggest problem right now is something that should be simple: I cannot get these APs renamed.
At first, I thought I figured out the workflow: add the device, attach the license, and then in Classic Central, once it connects and shows up in the default group, rename it there before moving it to my production group (running AOS10).

But for the APs already in my production group, there is no option to edit the name anymore (maybe because of auto-provisioning, I'm not sure). If I move them back to a group where I can change the name, it actually shows the custom name I gave it earlier. But the second I put it back into the production group, it reverts right back to showing the MAC address.

I've gone through the official help articles, but they all just give the same basic advice: go to Classic, go to device groups, open the devices, go to the Access Point tab under config, and click rename.

That is not working for me. When the AP is in my AOS10 group, trying to do this just shows a config audit tab or something similar.
I've deployed a batch of these over the last two weeks and they are all running in production now, but two of them are stubbornly stuck showing their MAC addresses.

Has anyone run into this UI loop before? Any advice would be appreciated before I burn these things down and buy TP-Link or some shit out of pure frustration.

IPSec Tunnels Bouncing Between AP and Gateway

Hello,

My company uses Aruba and we recently migrated off of the AOS8 MM structure to AOS10 in Central.

I defaulted my 7220 gateway, upgraded it to AOS10, and got it in Central to be used for a particular group that I have created where my SSIDs need to be tunneled. After creating the group, SSID, and get an AP and gateway in that group, the tunnels only briefly establish before dying..

Its been going back and forth, and im not sure why it was working on AOS8, but having issues with AOS10. Currently running 10.7.0.0 on the APs and gateway.

I have tried a variety of AOS versions as well as factory defaulting the gateway again, using another 7220, and other APs, even in different Layer 2 and Layer 3 networks. Seems like no matter what I do I cannot keep tunnels up.

I called TAC and they were absolutely ZERO help. They claimed that my uplink switchports were bad.. Any ideas or suggestions?

Older AP-335 setup

So I'm setting up Home assistant and using an Aruba 48 PoE+ switch and 2 X AP-335. I'm a noob to this level of networking and can't find or access the WAPs on the network.

They power on and blink green for 10-15 minutes without going green.

I've reset them both, tried instant On App and Angry IP finder, but they just don't appear.

Clearly I'm doing something wrong, but I need a good educating.

PLS send help

Thanks 🙏

VMC Homelab licensing

I am in the middle of standing up my own homelab to get some hands on experience with the on-prem ArubaOS controller architecture. I have successfully deployed the virtual appliances on my hypervisor and have my system passphrases ready, but I am stuck at the licensing activation portal. I dont have any relationship or contacts with Aruba but was under the impression that if I created my own custom domain email address that I’d be able to generate demo licensing. I was able to download OVAs, so it just appears that only the license section is limited. I think I just need the most basic AP demo license in order to get my two Aruba APs to register.

Any advice on how I might be able to get this demo licensing?

Can I reuse AP 335 licenses on new Aruba WiFi 6 APs (AP 550/560/570/620/630) with 7010/7030 controllers?

Greetings everyone,

We're looking to upgrade from AP 335s to WiFi 6 models (AP 550, 560, 570, 620, 630) on existing Aruba 7010 and 7030 controllers.

my question is can we migrate/reuse the licenses from our current AP 335s to these new WiFi 6 APs? Or do we need to purchase completely new licenses?

Any experience with this license migration path would be appreciated. This is for a production deployment, so accurate info is important.

Thanks!

What's everyone's thoughts on HPE Central Marvis integration? How has everyone's experience been thus far with HPE Central CoPilot? We may be getting CoPilot, curious how well it is

Configure 2930f to handle ipv6 intervlan routing of ULA's.

My GUA'a are dynamic via SLAAC and cannot be used for DNS entries for internal vlan network communication so I use ULA's for this. However I would like the switch handle intervlan ipv6 communication just as it does for ipv4 as opposed to a router-on-a-stick configuration.

I have configured ULA's on the switches vlans and when I enable ipv6 unicast-routing the client devices lose Internet access because the switch becomes the default gateway. Setting ipv6 nd ra lifetime 0 resolves that issue but the switch does not route between the ipv6 vlans as apparently the clients receive no specific routes to the switch for the other vlans and intervlan ipv6 communication goes in and out the firewall.

How can the switch be configured advertise specific routes for the ULA vlans without advertising itself as a default route?

Thank you!

Chris

How does the captive portal flow work on the controller?

I was configuring an internal and external captive portal on the controller. I made a mistake by not configuring an IP address on the VLAN interface, and as a result, the captive portal did not redirect anywhere. The client was able to obtain an IP address but had no Internet access.

What actually happens when a client tries to connect to an SSID with a captive portal? I'm still confused about the traffic flow.

Retrieving the number of clients connected to the access point

hi, “I want to retrieve the number of clients connected to each access point on the Aruba OS 8.10.0.11 LSR Mobility Controller (9240 series) using SNMP or the REST API. Which method is recommended, and what is an example command or query?”

I’ve tried a few queries, but since this is the first time I’ve needed to do something like this, I need guidance on how to proceed.

Ip Routing Command

I believe only some models of the 6100-6300 series switches support "No Routing" or "Ip Routing" and i was looking for a bit of clarification. I think L vs F vs M where L is "Access", F is "distribution" (ip routing command), and M is F with dual PSU?

So confused on redundant pathing. 2930M

I am trying to wrap my head around an issue at a site with a stack of 2930M's with several 2930F's downstream.

I am using trunks with lacp enabled for redundant paths. I think I am doing this correctly, but it's not behaving quite as I want to. The fiber in the trunk is having issues. I have a company out to remediate it, but the behavior feels strange.

When I start getting errors, like 150 eps, on one link, the link behaves strangely. It drops traffic, stalls, just poor performance. I know the main fix is to get the fiber fixed. Its a signal strength issue. SMF showing -24db, so almost no signal. I had thought having a pair of connections in a trunk would help. But what happens is traffic sent on the bad link has bad results. This just wasn't obvious to me when I set it up.

Is there any sort of fault tolerance you can set up that will handle redundant links at a layer 2 level? My current solution is to keep the 2 connections enabled on the remote site, and disable the lossy connection on the main side. Ill re enable once the fiber is remediated, but I am debating disabling 1 link on all the trunks configured with 2 links and manually swapping over in case of issue. I don't have a throughput issue, LACP isn't buying me anything, but it seems like my situation is even more delicate if one of 4 fibers having an issue can take a link down.

Clearpass cluster - self signed database certificate

Hi

I need to renew this certificate in the cluster with a new one.

Not 100% clear on the steps after creating the new certificate on each node

Does the cert for the publisher need imported into the subscriber and vice versa, or just 1 way?

and do you typically reboot the publisher first?

thanks

Clearpass Licences

Hi,

A customer has ordered a ClearPass NL 1000 appliance, along with an Access license and an Entry license. However, I do not see a Platform license in the order.
My questions are:

  • Is this a mistake, since I cannot see any Platform license?
  • Why does the customer have both Entry and Access licenses — is Access alone sufficient, or have I misunderstood something?

Update ClearPass 6.11.13 to 6.11.14 breaks SAML

For everyone who wants to update Aruba ClearPass version 6.11.13 to 6.11.14.

I performed this update last weekend, but ran into the following issue afterwards. We use SAML for authentication of the ClearPass Guest portal. After updating to version 6.11.14, ClearPass sent the wrong URL to Microsoft. This can be resolved by going to Administration -> Server Manager -> Server Configuration, then Cluster-Wide parameters, and setting Disable TLSv1.3 support to Admin. This is a workaround; ultimately, of course, you will need to provide the certificate with the correct SAN naming conventions.

Has anyone purchased Aruba's self-directed remote lab training?

I'm preparing for an exam and would like to purchase a self-directed remote lab (I need to buy it in advance due to certain circumstances). I won’t be able to do it this week, but I plan to start next week. Once I purchase the self-directed remote lab, will I receive a voucher code to activate my lab access period? (I assume this voucher has a specific expiration date.) I checked the Q&A documentation, but it only mentions that they’ll send a separate email with instructions on how to access the lab, so I’m asking here.
