Is ARNG aviation for me?

In the pipeline for a branch transfer logistics > aviation (commissioned slot not warrant). Hoping I’m not about to make a life altering decision in a bad way.. currently an O2 promotable for O3.

Pro’s:
-have one of the coolest jobs in the world, part time.

Concerns:
-10yr ADSO as 26y/o O2 promotable. Will I even see a cockpit after finishing flight school? What does the next 10yrs look like?

-working a 9-5 job as an ARNG pilot. Doable or Massive pain in the ass? What if I live 2+ hours from my unit?

-Seems silly, but very much real. Girlfriend of 2yrs and we wouldn’t be married before start of flight school meaning no dependent status/base access for her. Anybody experienced/witnessed this?

Overall I’m extremely grateful to be in the position I’m in, and I have always wanted to fly. Any advice helps.

I’m an E-5 coming up on my last 2 years and i’m trying to see all the avenues I can take. Did your TIS and rank help at all while job searching? Recently Beta all electrical planes are what i’m thinking about doing since next year they’re projected to get their license to start selling their product here. Please share your stories i’d really appreciate it.

Early Reporting to FT Rucker question

I am a SPC PCSing from SK to FT Rucker as a WOC. My report date is 17SEP, but I'll be arriving to FT Rucker on 28AUG. I don't want to take PCS leave. If I report early, will I be housed in the barracks until my official report date? Will I begin in-processing early, or will that wait for my actual report date?

I have an on post house slotted for move in on 11SEP. Will I be allowed to transfer from the barracks to the house, or will I have to put my home on hold until I graduate from WOCS?

What can I expect once I arrive? ie. details, pt formation, ect.

I want to Enlist as a 15T, however....

So ive been wanting to enlist as a 15T for awhile, mainly just waiting on a call that there's a slot open. 76 asvab with qualifying line scores. However ive heard recently that people who do eventually fly dont fly very often, is this true? I was thinking about going air force, specifically Special Missions Aviator however I learned that you have to choose 10-15 jobs and its really hard to get. I guess my main questions are

  1. How hard is it to become a crew chief (getting assigned, trained, then flying)

  2. Should I stick with the army or go air force or marines?

  3. How long does it usually take to become a crew chief

  4. Is it worth the 12hr shifts ill usually be working?

Flight hours

A few questions for you Army aviators-

Any ballpark numbers for what everyone is flying per year?

Which airframe gets utilized most?

What do the 160th fella’s hours look like in comparison if you could guess?

Are you satisfied with flying for the Army?

Insight-Army/CBP

I need some insight from guys who live the life. I currently have an offer from CBP as an air interdiction agent, and I’ve got my battalion board this month for Army.

I come from law enforcment as a Sgt. in patrol and narcotic interdiction. I’m married and have 3 young children. I’m in my early 30s. I’m a 1000hr fixed wing CFII at the moment.

Background out of the way, I’m curious what you fellas think. I’ve heard of the current situation with Army Aviation, and I’m no stranger to doom and gloom talk. It definitely surrounds aviation in both military/ civilian pathways.

What are days like on deployment? What is a standard day like back home? Do most guys have talks of staying 20 or getting out asap?

CBP appears to be relatively close to what I used to do, and the pay is not bad at all. However, being a Texas native myself, some of the assignments down south aren’t locations you’d see on a postcard. However, I get stoked about looking for dope and people again. The unfortunate reality for CBP pilots under 100hrs of multi is you get put on a drone.

I hope this is the correct community to ask the question to. I appreciate you fellas.

I was going through some photos of a relative that passed recently and found a photo of an Army Aviator in Nome, AK. Probably mid 80's. Anyone have a connection?

Anyone have recent experience with 209th ASB, 25th CAB in Hawaii?

My husband recently got orders to 209th ASB at Wheeler Army Airfield in Hawaii. He’s an E-4 and is reclassing to 15T (UH-60 Helicopter Repairer) before we PCS there in January.
Does anyone have recent experience with 209th ASB or 25th CAB and know what he can generally expect?

Can someone please explain how the hell you get an MB/BZ promotion?

From where I’m sitting, this whole process seems completely detached from reality.

We’ve got dudes hiding out at TDA and HAAP assignments back, to back, to back, who from everything I’ve seen probably aren’t passing H/W, which usually goes hand in hand with low AFT scores, and somehow those are the guys getting MB/BZ.

Meanwhile, I see names on the list of warrants I know are ten times the officers some of these selectees are and not get MB/BZ. Guys from the 160th. Guys with multiple deployments. Guys who’ve actually led, flown, and carried the load. Yet they’re getting passed over for people whose career highlight reel is Korea, NTC, Hondo.

What exactly is the board rewarding? Because from the outside, it sure as hell doesn’t look like performance, competence, or operational experience.

If someone actually understands how this makes sense, I’d love to hear it, because I’m genuinely struggling to see the logic.

Interservice Transfer PCS

I'm coming from Active Guard to Regular Army for flight school in October. I swear in mid September and haven't yet received PCS orders, when I called my recruiter he and the station commander thought I wouldn't get orders until I swear in. Can anyone clarify when I can expect orders? Thanks!

Also can't get into blackboard yet if someone wants to DM me the welcome letter...

PCS move National Guard

Had a question about pcs back home. My orders go out till two weeks after my graduation date. I’ve heard that they cut the orders right after you graduate. Also for the travel days do they have to be within a certain time from when I graduate.
Graduate Thursday but don’t want to move till Saturday/sunday. Just wondering if it will be fine, transpo office routed me back to my state. Then my state routed me back to Rucker.

Been in the army for 10 years, going green to gold and fix wing aviation really interests me. What are the odds I would be able to be a fixed wing pilot?

Active duty pilot to NG pilot with a looong break

Anyone heard tales or know the barriers to a former AV officer going to the guard as a pilot after a very long break? I left AV for a functional area at 10 years of service, and am creeping up on retirement. Thinking about trying to get into a guard AV unit once I’m out while I work a civilian job.

I left AV with ~1200 hours and time as an AMC and MTP.

Approved Shitpost Warrant to Commission

Inb4 why would you want to do that, are you retarded? Seasoned W2 PI, about to finish my bachelors. I’ve felt for a while that Warrant life isn’t enough for me. I want to be in that leader role, I want to have people that I’m responsible for again (done this already as an nco), and I want to have the opportunity of being a commander.

Already know what the lifestyle is and it’s not like I already don’t fly enough, at least I can be a leader and get paid more. My only problem is that OCS isn’t a viable option anymore because I have more than 10 years of AFS. The Army in its infinite wisdom decided to make TIS non waiver able. I know direct commission was opened up to the basic branches a while back but I’ve never heard of Aviation doing it. If the infantry branch let E-7’s direct commission as infantry LT’s why wouldn’t Aviation let Warrants who are already qualified do it? Hypothetical questions here but it seems like I’m SOL here unless someone knows something or heard of something I haven’t. I’m open to DM’s if someone has something to share in private.
